In the series “Style Profile,” celebrities exclusively share details of their fashion and beauty with EnVi. In the first installment, the members of the K-pop group LAPILLUS offer a picture of their personal style, sartorial inspirations, and favorite trends.

Although she is currently gaining steam as a member of the K-pop group LAPILLUS, Chantal Videla — known as Chanty onstage — is no stranger to the entertainment scene. Armed with irresistible charm and a myriad of talents, the Filipino-Argentinian multi-hyphenate kicked off her career as an actress in the Philippines. After earning recognition as a budding star in the Pinoy industry, Chanty took on another challenge. In 2022, she transitioned into music, making her debut as one-sixth of LAPILLUS. By now — with two singles out and group promotions that even took her to Latin America — Chanty has fully embraced the K-pop star role. And she’s nailing it from start to finish.

As part of our Style Profile series, Chanty exclusively talks to EnVi and dissects tidbits of her fashion and beauty. Read on to discover Chanty’s skincare secrets, what’s on her GRWM playlist, and how she’s channeling her Latin American and Filipino heritage through fashion.

On Fashion: What Fashion Says About You

Chanty joins EnVi in a Zoom call in early spring. It’s a late night for her, but she looks immaculately put together with her hair gracefully falling down her shoulders and dressed in a black T-shirt. Although she opens up the interview by stating that she is in no way a fashion authority and doesn’t follow trends blindly, Chanty looks happy to hear that her preferred fashion combination — denim and white — is quite popular at that moment.

However, instead of being influenced by what’s trendy or buzzy, Chanty’s style predilections stem from a place of self-awareness and authenticity. If we go by her own words, fashion is one of the best ways of presenting oneself to the world. And there’s probably no better choice than simple, clean-looking clothes to paint an accurate portrait of her down-to-earth, wholesome personality.

EnVi: Let’s talk about fashion. What is something you take into consideration when picking clothes?

Chanty: Well, ever since I got into the show business, I got interested in fashion because I feel that whatever you wear is a very big impression you can give to people. It can say a lot about you. I always think about what type of energy, aura, or approach I want to have with my outfit. I feel that I always take hours every time I pick my clothes because of it.

What about trends? Do you follow them, is there any trend you like now?

Honestly, every time there’s a new trend, I don’t really follow it right away. I don’t know, I feel like I always choose the type of trend that fits me. There are certain trends that everybody does but what if it’s not something that I believe in or that I think would suit me or the message I want to give? I don’t usually follow [trends] right away. Most of the time, I like to have this very pure and clean aura and style but if there would be a trend that fits my style then, I’d follow it, I’d do it.

That being said, what are some of your fashion essentials and the must-haves in your wardrobe?

I’ve always liked neat-looking, clean clothes. I’m not a fashion guru or anything. I’m not a very fashionista type of girl, so my go-to style would just be a normal pair of jeans with a top, and then accessories like a necklace or a ring to make it look a little bit more classy. You would always see me wear white though. I always like the denim-and-white-top type of look so even my members would say that if you look at my closet you would see more white-colored tops than any other color. I’m not the very colorful type when it comes to clothing.

You just mentioned accessories, what are your favorite type of accessories?

Well, I grew up with my mom always buying accessories and other stuff, so for me…. [she hesitates and wonders if it’s right to say this]. I’m always into gold [laughs]. My go-to accessory would be gold and stones — the sparkly ones.

On my earrings, I always wear flower shapes with white stones.  Right now these are a green type of stone and I have a purple stone in my ring [Chanty shows her perfectly manicured hand with a ring adorning her middle finger before moving to show her necklace]. I always wear a necklace that has stones, but this was my mom’s gift and has my name written on it, so this is what I’m wearing right now. I’m so into gold [accessories], the simple, small type. It looks simple, but it makes you look elegant and fancy. Unless there are bigger occasions, then I’ll gladly wear something that will pop out.

On Style Inspirations: Mix and Match of Cultures

Although mastering countless talents appears to be the rule rather than the exception for K-pop stars, Chanty takes “multifaceted” to the next level. Singer, actress, model, and polyglot, the LAPILLUS vocalist flawlessly represents a new generation of all-rounders. With an equally diverse background and a burgeoning career that has crossed industries and frontiers, it is only expected that Chanty embraces her many sides to craft her style. As she explains, her fashion has found inspiration, among other things, in her mother, her multicultural heritage, and her experience living in different countries.

You just mentioned your mother when talking about accessories. Has she influenced your style?

Oh yes, big time! My mom is the type to wear something basic and I feel like I got that from her. Every time there’s a trend she would only copy or follow it if she feels [that] it matches her style. I got that attitude from her and I got that outlook when it comes to fashion. Even now, [when] wearing accessories, I never take this ring off because I feel naked without it; it’s to that extent. I can’t live without accessories or stuff like that [and that’s because] she made a big impact on my fashion.

People look up to celebrities or at least feel like sometimes their style is influenced by other people. Is there anyone you look up to style-wise?

Yeah, there are a lot. There’s a Filipino fashionista that I know, plus here in Korea, there are a lot of sunbaenims that are really good in fashion. I’m someone who’s learning and I’m also someone that people are interested in — there are Lapis (fandom name) who always look at us — so I always want to look good in front of everyone. I take inspiration from other artists like my sunbaenims, Filipino stars, and even Latin American style. [For example] I bought some boots in Argentina last time [I was there] before coming to Korea. I’m actually wearing them right now ‘cause I like the style and it’s not something you can normally see here in Korea. I like it because it feels different and it makes me feel like I’m standing out because they have a different style.

What is something that sets Latin American style apart?

The thing that always stood out to me is the ragged look, you know the [items] like the borcegos and the boots, then you wear a leather jacket or something like that. The way Koreans dress and the way Latin Americans dress is so different and I like to mix and match. Latin America has a very sultry look, and here in Korea, [the fashion] looks more like a uniform: stylish, classy, elegant.

You’ve lived in different countries. How has that changed the way you approach fashion?

As I said, fashion is a way to introduce yourself to people. It is a way to show people, “This is who I am.” The way you dress, and the way you show yourself in front of people says a lot about you. Rather than focusing on Korean fashion, Latin American fashion, or Filipino fashion, I like to get inspiration, little bits, from different cultures and mix it up because that’s me, that’s who I am. I’m half-Filipina and half-Argentinian. I’m a mix. I have a mixed nationality so I feel it’s a good way for me to show that I’m not just Filipino. I’m also Latin American, I’m also Argentinian and I’m here in Korea. I’m working in Korea so I wear Korean fashion too.

On Her Favorites: BLACKPINK’s Jennie, The Devil Wears Prada, and Thalía

While Chanty is comfortable speaking about everything and anything, when tackling lighter topics and what-ifs, she can’t stop gushing about the multifarious preferences she’s developed through her multicultural upbringing. In a free-flowing chat, she goes from revealing her latest fashion purchases to offering a glimpse at what’s in her “Getting Ready” playlist. In between, she’s also wowed with questions that have her thinking hard and breaking into impromptu singing.

What’s the last fashion item you bought?

I think it would be my practice clothes because lately I’ve been wanting to take pictures every time I’m in the practice room, so I got more interested in buying good-looking, hip-hop-style clothes. I don’t see myself [wearing] hip-hop-looking styles, but because I have to wear comfortable clothes during practice and while dancing, I’m getting into really swag-looking clothes. That’s the latest product I bought.

This is a question I ask in every interview. If you could live in a fictional world only because of its fashion, what world would you choose?

[After marveling at the question and pausing to think about her answer] Oh, it could be a movie or anything, right? I would choose The Devil Wears Prada. I love that movie because of the fashion and everything. And if I were in a Korean movie [or drama] I would choose… Ah, it’s so difficult! I think I would choose Hotel de Luna. IU sunbaenim wore very cool clothes there, so I would choose that drama.

If you could have the clothes, the wardrobe of any star just for one day, who would that be?

Oh my god, this is so difficult though, there are so many. I would pick… oh my gosh, I think it would be BLACKPINK’s Jennie sunbaenim’s wardrobe. She’s very stylish. I’m also curious about Thalía’s wardrobe.

Thalía has had such a long-standing career that I imagine her wardrobe must have everything.

She must have everything! For some reason, she just came into my mind and I’m so curious about her wardrobe because when you see her on stage she has really peculiar-looking outfits, and I feel that says a lot about her. I want to get into her wardrobe and see, I feel like I would get to know more about her.

Speaking of Thalia, what are some songs you listen to while getting ready? Do you listen to Latin music?

For Latin American music I do listen to Thalia’s songs. If it’s a very happy song, I’d pick “Arrasando” or if I want to have a sad vibe, if it’s a rainy day, I would choose “No Me Enseñaste,” [sings her own rendition of the song]. But I also listen to Marcela Morelo’s music. I’ve been also interested in Camilo and Sebastian Yatra’s songs. And even Rosalía because Shana has been listening to Rosalía a lot, so I know a little bit about her songs as well. But lately, I’ve also been into very chill songs, something that would just relax you. I pick songs that have really good lyrics because it makes me feel inspired the whole day.

On Beauty And Fragrances: Minimalism and Cherishing Moments

Just like her fashion, Chanty’s take on beauty and fragrance revolves around the basics, favoring uncomplicated steps and elemental products. For Chanty, the focus of her beauty routine is achieving healthy skin. “I don’t have to be too white or too tanned or anything like that. Rather than caring about skin tone, I care about having glowing skin,” she says. Chanty also shares that despite having a sensitive nose, she has found ways of wearing fragrances by opting for lighter scents.

What’s your beauty routine like?

I’m so into skincare. I always want to have really good, healthy skin. I like to learn what type of skincare suits my skin type because I’m more on the sensitive [skin] side. Every time I put on something extra harsh or with scents, it irritates my skin a lot, especially because I wear makeup almost every day. So for me, I just wash my face with facial wash, a normal one, without any whitening or any harsh products, just a face wash for sensitive skin, and then I would apply a soothing toner and then I use moisturizer. At night I also apply a night cream for my face, it’s a gel type and every time I wake up in the morning it makes my skin feel so refreshed — that’s what I like the most about it. In the morning, I use moisturizer and sunscreen and that’s it. I don’t put anything else [laughs].

What about fragrances? Do you wear perfumes often?

I like wearing colognes that are pretty light-scented. You know how much confidence it gives you when you walk past someone and then there’s like a smell lingering? I like that. I usually go for fruity scented perfumes or if I’d pick very good scented perfume, the only one I have is Dior’s Poison. My mom introduced me to that perfume and it’s really, good. I have been taking care of it [for a while]. I’ve had it for years and didn’t finish the bottle. I only wear it on special occasions, and it’d be just one or two sprays, like a reminder of, “This is a very special day and I must wear perfume.” I love it. I also like to mix the perfumes because that makes a new scent and it means only I have that scent.

Lastly, what is a style tip you’d like to give to your fans?

To just be confident in their own style. Whatever you wear, it doesn’t have to be because someone else approves of it, it should be because you do and because you like it and you’re confident in it. So don’t think about what other people say about your style. Following a trend is good and fun, but if you feel it’s ruining your self-esteem, then don’t!

Spontaneous, candid, and true to her roots, Chanty is fully committed to championing authenticity and embracing her roots fearlessly. Attentive interlocutor, K-drama enthusiast, Latin music enjoyer, and dexterous performer, Chanty and her many facets appear endless. Yet, she’s not someone to be pigeonholed into categories. Chanty is just herself, with her many life experiences, stacked resumé, and melding origins. And she wants people to know that style-wise and otherwise, that’s the power within each of us: “Your style is yours and you’re the only one in the world, no one can be you, so just be yourself.”

In the series “Style Profile,” celebrities exclusively share details of their fashion and beauty with EnVi. In the first installment, the members of the K-pop group LAPILLUS offer a picture of their personal style, sartorial inspirations, and favorite trends.

Composed of Chanty, Shana, Yue, Seowon, Haeun, and Bessie, the K-pop girl group LAPILLUS debuted in 2022, rapidly making waves with their catchy music and girl-crush image. As a vocalist and rapper, the 18-year-old Bessie — born Susanna Kim — embodies LAPILLUS’ cool-girl charm to a tee. The star grew up listening to Korean music in her household, wishing to become an idol herself. Now, as she conquers the stage with her group, Bessie is making her dreams come true one step at a time. In this exclusive interview for Envi‘s Style Profile series, she spills her style tips, beauty essentials, and how her fashion has changed since debut.

On Personal Style: Effortless Chic

Recognized as LAPILLUS’ fashion enthusiast, Bessie is often the person her bandmates go to for style tips. The reason why her fellow group members trust her with fashion advice becomes clear when she connects with EnVi through a Zoom call. The singer pops up on the screen, donning an effortless yet classy look — a black turtleneck with skinny jeans, accessorized with a couple of gold necklaces. Engrossed in fashion talk, Bessie later explains that she has a penchant for keeping things practically chic.

How would you describe your personal style?

Nowadays I like to wear chic styles. To give an example, I try to wear black clothes. Since my hair is pretty bright right now, by wearing dark clothes, I try to emphasize my hair.

What influences your style?

I’m actually very interested in fashion. So I try to find and look at different references for my looks. Whenever I’m on stage or in casual clothes, I look at myself and see what suits me best, that’s how I usually choose my fashion

Do you have any fashion pet peeves?

I don’t really have a fashion no-no but if I had to choose, I usually use long pants because when I wear skirts, my legs look shorter. I really try to use long pants or shorts, and if I had to choose, I usually avoid wearing skirts.

If you were to switch closets with your members, who would it be?

If I had to choose it would be Haeun because she usually wears hip styles and she also has a lot of oversized clothes and for me, usually on casual days I wear oversized clothes a lot so if I had to switch I’d switch with Haeun!

On Fashion Must-Haves: A Classic Combination

Like any fashionista, Bessie recognizes the power of crafting personal style codes. As she confides, her footwear choices need to align with her day-to-day style. Bessie also acknowledges the importance of having an outfit combination that can never go wrong. Hers? A classic style formula that reflects her effortlessly chic aesthetics.

What type of accessories you can’t live without?

The one I’m wearing right now, necklaces!

Do you have a go-to type of shoes?

As I told you, my usual style is chic, so I don’t really wear sneakers a lot. I usually go for walkers; they’re comfortable for the feet and they’re also stylish and you can really just style them with different kinds of fashion.

What’s an outfit combination that can never go wrong?

It’s actually the one I’m wearing right now — a long sleeve black turtleneck and skinny jeans. So like skinny pants and since it’s cold nowadays I try to wear turtlenecks that are tighter. It might look simple but it’s also chic, so yes, what I’m wearing right now: tight tops, skinny pants, and walkers. It looks clean but still pretty.

On Skincare: Sticking To Essentials

When it comes to a beauty regime, Bessie — just like many of her bandmates — champions minimalism. Bessie’s skincare routine centers around cleansing thoroughly and only using what she needs — her secret to keeping her skin clean and clear. Most importantly, she shares, the key to nailing a beauty routine is to know what suits her and her skin type well.

Do you have any mantras when it comes to beauty?

I feel that for beauty you guys would be most curious about skincare. For my skincare, in the beginning, I used to put on a lot, which backfired and made my skin become bad, so nowadays, I try to keep it really simple by using moisturizer and facial masks.

Do you have any beauty product that has become essential?

My skin is actually the oily type. I try to do facial masks and creams that suit my skin type well. You really have to know your skin type well to know what can help you.

When buying makeup, What do you tend to look out for?

For makeup, I usually try to have a lot of different types of makeup. For lips, I don’t really go for the really pink ones, I go for the shades that suit both warm and cool tones well. [When it comes to] eye makeup, I really like fake eyelashes.

On Idol Life: Of Dark Concepts and Long Hair

After her debut, Bessie has not only continued to grow as a performer, but her sartorial adroitness has evolved too. Through her performances and promotions as part of LAPILLUS, the singer has been able to explore and experiment with different styles, which — to put it in a way — has been a journey of self-discovery. As she shares with EnVi, idol life has encouraged her to be more open to trying new looks. Bessie even believes that if it weren’t for her work, she would’ve probably never sported long hair.

You wear different costumes and looks for your performances, does style impact your performance in any way?
With all the different stage outfits and makeup we try, I’m trying [new] things. As I said before, I like darker colors, but when we’re performing we always have to wear colorful clothes. With that, I actually realized that I actually suit these colors well, and I’ve been able to know myself more.

Out of all the looks you’ve tried onstage so far, what’s the most memorable one?

I feel that for me, my biggest change has been my hairstyle. I used to have short hair, but right now, as you can see, I have long hair. I realized that I actually suit this long hairstyle now and I can try different kinds of stylings, including how I curled my hair [for this interview].

Are there any concepts you want to try in the future?

I actually want to try to do a dark concept because as you know we’ve had really colorful concepts and we have a varied group of members. I really want to try a concept where there’s almost no color, and [it’s] all dark and cool vibes.

After debuting as an idol, you’ve worked with stylists, worn different stage outfits, and had a bigger exposure to fashion and beauty. Has your personal style changed?

After debuting, I do think a lot [has] changed! I mentioned earlier how I have long hair now. [As an idol] I’ve been able to show different sides of me and know what makeup and hairstyles suit me best. Also, the things I didn’t know about myself I know now, and I think of them as [style] references for me.

In tandem with her evolution as an idol, Bessie has constantly learned and uncovered new sides of herself. The idol’s open-minded and free-spirited attitude have allowed her to experiment with fashion, hairstyles, and beauty, effectively broadening her style. Yet, her innate love for all things chic is what makes Bessie someone to look forward to in the industry. As she continues her journey with LAPILLUS, the world can anticipate more of Bessie’s rise as both an artist and fashionista.

In the series “Style Profile,” celebrities exclusively share details of their fashion and beauty with EnVi. For the first installment, the members of the K-pop group LAPILLUS offer a picture of their personal style, sartorial inspirations and favorite trends.

Jang Seowon — better known as Seowon — takes the rapper position in the K-pop group LAPILLUS. With the group’s progressive sound and spunky image, Seowon plays a big part in adding a touch of edginess to LAPILLUS’ charm. Unapologetically herself and acutely honest, Seowon doesn’t shy away from looking back at her childhood and admitting her penchant for cute, princess-like fashion. Chatting exclusively with EnVi for our Style Profile series, the rapper discusses her style philosophy, earliest fashion memories, and beauty must-haves.

On Fashion: Princess to the Core

Although she’s known to exude a strong and cool aura on stage, Seowon fondly describes her style as feminine and cute. This love for girly, feminine fashion has accompanied the rapper since her childhood. As she reveals, she knew from an early age that this particular style suited her best. Seowon also remarks that her strong sense of self has always prevented her from looking for style inspiration on other people.

EnVi: How would you describe your personal style?

Seowon: For me, ever since I was a child, I liked wearing pretty clothes and clothes that make me look pretty. I actually went to elementary school wearing princess dresses. Even now, I’m like that so I try to look for girly clothes.

Do you have any fashion memories from your childhood?

As I said when I wore dresses [to school]. I didn’t end it there. I had a really big ribbon clip on my head, so like when I went to school with those, teachers would call me “Big [hair]pin” so it became a nickname for me. And I also have friends, we were three in a group and we all had the same preferences so we were called the “Three Princesses.”

Since you said you like a feminine, girly, princess style, do you have a fashion role model?

I don’t copy people for fashion, I try to wear clothes that I know suit me best, what makes me look pretty. I just try to wear clothes that I like.

With so many interesting trends going around fashion right now, is there a trend that you like or want to try?

I like the princess[core] trend.

On the other hand, what’s a trend that you don’t like?

Personally, I don’t like hip fashion, so styles that are too hip.

What’s a fashion tip you want your fans to know?

I feel that each person knows what suits them the most. So [if] these are clothes that make you look pretty, you know [it] yourself. My tip, rather than copying other people´s style, [what’s important] is knowing what suits you and knowing your own style.

On Must-Haves and Essentials: Jeans and Jeans

Despite the countless options to upgrade our closets, everybody has a go-to look they’re loyal to. Seowon, of course, is no exception. The LAPILLUS rapper recognizes the power of simplicity and easy-to-style combinations. Fittingly, jeans are high on her wishlist. After all, denim pants are probably one of the most versatile items. What is Seowon’s preferred denim type?

What is an outfit you can use every day?

If I have to wear the same outfit every day, simple is the best. So I guess [I’d go for] jeans and a simple white top.

What are three fashion items that you can’t live without?

It would be rings, necklaces, and bright-colored clothing.

What fashion item is on your wishlist right now?

Nowadays, it’s jeans because I do have a lot of jeans but they’re mostly the ones with butterflies or hearts or ripped jeans. So nowadays, I’ve been really wanting simple jeans.

Are you more of a straight-jeans, loose-jeans, or skinny-jeans person?

I like wide[legged] jeans.

On Beauty: Pops of Coral

Seowon’s predilection for simplicity is reflected in her skincare rituals too. Keeping things easy and uncomplicated, the young star reveals that her beauty routine focuses heavily on cleansing. Meanwhile, for makeup, she chooses products that bring a natural pop of coral to her skin.

What’s a beauty tip you’d share with your fans?

For my beauty tips, I actually don’t really do a lot of skincare. So actually to tell you one, I just do like lotions. My tip is that whenever you do makeup I guess you really have to cleanse it well and do your skincare. And for makeup, it’s really about having a good cleansing routine so with that you’ll already have good nice skin just by following that.

What’s on your current beauty wishlist?

Blush-ons! Because I usually like wearing blushes so I really wanna have different types of colors.

What’s an everyday essential you have to have in your bag?

Lip tint!

Speaking of lip tint, what kind of lip tints do you prefer?

I usually go for coral colors. For my blushes and eyeshadow, I also go for coral colors, because I feel like with these colors my skin turns brighter.

On Idol Life: Confidence FTW

With LAPILLUS performing hard-hitting hits, Seowon tends to dress in trendy looks that match her group’s music. Sporting edgier styles on stage has influenced Seowon to opt for more relaxed and dainty pieces when she’s not in idol mode. Regardless of the space she is in, Seowon is convinced that the best accessory is always confidence.

How has performing as an idol affected your fashion?

Whenever we perform, we usually have strong songs, and it gives off powerful energy so with that, I try to wear my pretty styles for casual clothing. Before, I used to like hip styles. But now because of all the performances, I can just use hip fashion while performing. For casual clothes, I try to wear pretty ones.

If you could have another member style your clothes for a day, who would that be?

I would choose Bessie because she’s always been interested in fashion. Even on days when I have to wear my own casual clothes, I ask for her advice often.

That’s it from me! Do you have any other style tips that you would like to share with our readers?

I feel like confidence is key! So whenever you wear clothes and you think it’s pretty, those clothes are the prettiest clothes that you can find. With fashion and beauty, you always have to be confident!

In contrast to the charismatic, edgy image she projects on stage, the IRL Jang Seowon is in favor of more feminine, gentler, and daintier looks — talk about duality! Putting confidence and individuality at the center of her fashion affinities, Seowon is the embodiment of self-assurance and learning to know oneself. As she has already found the key to rocking any outfit, LAPILLUS’ fans can anticipate more of Seowon when it comes to style.

In the series “Style Profile,” celebrities exclusively share details of their fashion and beauty with EnVi. For the first installment, the members of the K-pop group LAPILLUS offer a picture of their personal style, sartorial inspirations and favorite trends.

Haeun, the youngest of LAPILLUS’ six members, debuted at only 13 years old. From music video styling to coordinated dance practice outfits, the idol has been exposed to a variety of outlets for self-expression at a time when establishing your own identity is a priority. Now, almost a year since LAPILLUS’ debut, Haeun is confident when it comes to her personal style. In this installment of the EnVi-exclusive Style Profile series, she discusses LAPILLUS’ aesthetics, her admiration for BLACKPINK’s Jennie, and what’s in her bag.

On Personal Style: Key Point Blue

On stage, Haeun’s look is kick-in-the-door fearless. But when she’s not embracing LAPILLUS’ girl crush concept, the 14-year-old singer’s style is casual, practical, and youthfully hip. For this interview, she pops onto the Zoom screen wearing a cerulean sweater with a shirt collar neatly folded over the neckline. Fittingly, she describes different shades of blue as the ideal color addition to enhance her looks.

EnVi: How would you describe your personal style?

Haeun: I usually like wearing something simple and neutral for my outfits and then adding a pop of color with a hat or shoes.

What kind of colors do you use to add that pop of color?

Probably blue or sky blue.

On Style Inspirations: BLACKPINK’s Jennie, G-DRAGON, and H.O.T.

As a young K-pop fan herself, Haeun turns to industry icons for direction. Ranging from BLACKPINK’s Jennie to the first-generation K-pop group H.O.T., Haeun’s sources of inspiration cover trends past and present. Taking cues from what her idols are wearing, Haeun recreates their style with the pieces she owns.

How do you decide what to wear when you get dressed in the morning?

Well, my biggest style inspiration is Jennie from BLACKPINK, so I’d usually watch her videos. Then, I’d style my clothes accordingly.

Do you have any GENTLE MONSTER sunglasses then?

I want to buy a pair soon!

Do you have any style icons in addition to Jennie?

I really like GD’s — G-DRAGON’s — fashion too!

What do you like about Jennie and GD’s style?

I like how effortless Jennie’s style is. If you look at her airport style, her clothes are low-key but cool too. And then with GD, I really like how he does his nails and the shoes he wears. It almost feels like art.

Are there any K-pop fashion moments that stick out to you?

H.O.T.’s “CANDY” is pretty memorable for me. Like with their baggy pants, suspenders, gloves, and other accessories.

Do you have any other fashion inspirations?

Ariana Grande. She’s just super trendy!

On Trends: Engine Never Stop

LAPILLUS’ June 2022 release of “HIT YA!” inspired Haeun to dabble in Y2K fashion. The feminine outfits featured in the music video showcased a color scheme prominently present in Haeun’s favorite movie from that era. After all, pink in various shades, mini skirts, and cardigans — among other items, of course — were at the heart of Mean Girls (2004). In her own life, Haeun incorporates elements of early 2000s fashion into particular moments, like dancing to trendy songs with the LAPILLUS girls.

Is there a particular trend you’ve been wanting to try?

I really like the Y2K fashion that’s been trending.

How do you incorporate Y2K fashion?

I’ll wear some baggy blue jeans that are almost the color of waves. On top, I’ll wear something more form-fitting and with a cute graphic on it and pair it with some clear glasses.

What’s been your favorite fashion era with the group so far?

I think it was during “HIT YA.” I like Y2K fashion and during “HIT YA” we were able to wear a lot of pink, checkered print, and other preppy stuff that reminded me of the early 2000’s high school movies.

Do you have a favorite early high school movie from the early 2000’s?

Yes! I like Mean Girls the most.

Is there a particular kind of concept you’d like to try in the future?

We haven’t really been able to do a “cute” concept yet, so I think that would be fun.

On Essentials: Haeun’s Must-Haves

When approaching both beauty and accessorizing, Haeun prefers to keep things simple. Posts uploaded outside of LAPILLUS’ promotions show that Haeun leans toward a minimalistic look. With light eyeliner and defined lashes, she accentuates beauty basics. On stage, her looks are upgraded with glittery eyeshadow, the occasional rhinestone accents, and darker mascara. One constant is the must-have lip product to complement any makeup look.

What are some fashion or beauty items you can’t live without?

I can’t live without a lip color. Like imagine you do your entire face makeup but if you leave out your lips you can look sick or something. I think that’s why I like lip products the most.

What is your fashion essential?

Oh! It’s the shoes I’m wearing right now. They’re these sky blue Air Jordans and that’s my favorite color.

I know LAPILLUS is a Latin word for a jewel that has different colors. What is a beauty or fashion item that can lift you mood and give you some extra shine?

Probably some jewelry. Necklaces, rings, and the like.

What is an item of clothing you’ve had in your closet that you don’t think you will be able to throw away?

When I went to the Philippines, I got a butterfly necklace made out of cubic gems. Probably that. I can’t ever lose it!

What is in your bag?

My glasses, lipstick, my school materials, and some pencils.

What kind of glasses do you have?

They’re these clear square glasses.

Do you have any fashion advice you could share with our readers?

It’s nice to dress up sometimes, but I think it’s also nice to wear fairly low-key clothes and use a hat, shoes, or a bag to get that cool, effortless look.

Haeun’s outlook on fashion is constantly evolving around her experiences as an idol and changing trends across social media. With an appreciation for detail and an understanding of what works best for her, the young performer is developing a unique style identity. As LAPILLUS continues to grow, with Haeun and her bandmates delving into unexplored concepts, the world can surely anticipate more exciting style moments from the rising star.

In the series “Style Profile,” celebrities exclusively share details of their fashion and beauty with EnVi. For the first installment, the members of the K-pop group LAPILLUS offer a picture of their personal style, sartorial inspirations and favorite trends.

Red-violet hair, Barbiecore sweater, and contagious smile…K-pop star Yue rocks them all effortlessly. In 2022, the young singer made her debut as a member of MLD Entertainment’s girl group, LAPILLUS. Thereafter, she has cultivated a style that favors comfort but still reflects her journey as part of one of K-pop’s up-and-coming acts.

For EnVi’s exclusive series, Style Profile, Yue takes us into her world, opening up about her fashion influences, haircare routine, and go-to fragrances.

On Personal Style: The Bulletproof Formula

Less than a year into her career, Yue is already forming a strong fashion presence as LAPILLUS’ main dancer and vocalist. Displaying her versatility as a performer, the idol has adopted a variety of styling concepts and trends on stage. Off-stage, however, is where Yue better channels her sartorial philosophy of embracing simplicity. It helps, of course, that she has found an easy-to-follow formula to guide her wardrobe choices.

EnVi: What style do you usually prefer for your daily life looks?

Yue: The styles I would often go for are just simple and chic styles because I really like comfortable clothes but I also want to look presentable in front of other people. I also have this habit of choosing similar colors and not using over three colors in an outfit.

What are the colors you find yourself wearing often?

I have three colors: black, white and brown. [Those] are my most commonly used colors.

What are some must-have items in your wardrobe?

I recently really got into corsets and belts, so I always find myself shopping for those kinds of accessories and wearing them for airport fashion. I also find myself wearing a lot of high-rise, wide-legged pants, whether it is jeans or just sports pants.

If you could describe your style in three words, what words would you choose?

Elegance, contrast, and comfortable.

On Fashion Inspirations: Mom, BLACKPINK, and Frozen

From popular styles to people, Yue pulls fashion cues from a variety of places. To craft her looks, the star mixes influences as varied as her mother and the K-pop icons BLACKPINK — which she cites as big sartorial inspirations. When it comes to trends, just like many people of her age, Yue is retro gazing for guidance. As she tells EnVi, nowadays, fashion is connecting older and younger generations.

Who are some of your style icons?

For me, definitely BLACKPINK’s Jennie and Rosé sunbaenims. Rosé has that really chic YSL [aesthetic], and Jennie has that kind of really elegant, hot girl vibe. I really like their fashion. But I would also say that my mom is a big influence on my style because when I show her what I’m wearing, she always gives me advice and I also really like my mom’s fashion. I listen to her advice a lot.

What are some cues you’ve taken from your mom’s style?

The funny thing is that she always wears this kind of padded vest, so before she would always tell me, “You should wear it, it’s comfortable and it’s good when you’re feeling cold.” I never get her fashion, but I feel like nowadays [this style] is coming back and now I find myself actually shopping for padded vests or normal vests. I just like how it goes well with everything; you can wear a vest with a T-shirt under[neath] and it really changes the style of the outfit.

As a member of LAPILLUS, what are some of your favorite styling concepts?

We don’t really have any ways of promoting [new] outfits right now because we’re preparing for future projects, but right now I’m wearing a lot of vintage clothes with American high school girl vibes.

Is there any style you’d like to try in the future?

I think there’s a style called Y2K. I want to try that kind of vibe. Fashion is going back in time now. Before, people were always trying to find new ways, new styles, new kinds of fashions. I like how we’re bringing [vintage fashion] back. The style my parents used to wear, we would wear it now. I like how there’s this connection through fashion.

If you could live in a fictional world, for the style only, what universe would you choose?

I want to live in Frozen because one, that’s my favorite movie, and two, I really like the outfits the princesses wear. Sometimes I get that princessy mood too and I want to wear what they’re wearing. I also like the overall style in Frozen, the castles [give off] that Renaissance style. So if I could live in a fictional world, I would live there.

On Beauty: The Cleansing Routine

In recent years, beauty and skincare have experienced a boom. Despite the influx of viral products and routines, Yue believes that the foundation of an effective skincare routine is cutting through the noise and finding what suits each person best. The star, for example, places special attention on cleansing. As she puts it, keeping her face as clean as possible is a non-negotiable even during her “lazy days.”

How do you approach beauty and skincare? What does your routine look like?

For me, cleansing is super important. As an idol, I wear a lot of makeup every day and I wear it for a long time so I always want to make sure I wipe off all my makeup. Then, I go through an oil cleanser and then a foam cleanser just to make sure that all my makeup is gone. Then, I put on a normal toner and use moisturizing cream because I have pretty dry skin. I also try to use facial packs as often as I can. That’s usually my routine but there are also times when I just get kind of lazy. You know, we all have those kinds of days. On those days, I just try to make sure to, at least, clean my face.

Whenever you have days off, what is your beauty routine like?

When I have days off I never wear makeup because I feel my skin needs to breathe.

Do you have any habits or tips for when you’re not wearing any makeup?

Something I like to do is to keep my lips very moisturized. In Korea is very cold [now]* and it’s also very dry so my lips get really chipped. I try to keep my lips as moisturized as possible. We also use a stick moisturizer — it’s really affordable — so whenever we feel our lips are kind of dry, we put it on.

Do you have any beauty tips for our readers?

Skincare-wise, I hope everyone finds the right products for their skin. Something I’ve found out is that not all skincare products are a match for everyone. Some skin products could be good for one person but for other people, they could not be the right ones. I hope people don’t only buy things that are popular, but things that are actually fitting for them.

On Haircare and Fragrances: The Go-To Choices

In addition to their overflowing talents and distinctive fashion, K-pop stars are known for their bold beauty and hair statements. For instance, Yue greets me through a computer screen flaunting a red, luscious mane. Colored hair, however, requires special care. To keep her hair healthy, Yue follows a few expert-approved recommendations. Meanwhile, as far as fragrances go, Yue is a self-confessed enthusiast. Switching her personal choices to match her mood, the singer certainly understands the power of curating a perfume wardrobe for different occasions.

What is your go-to hairstyle, your safe choice?

I have really bad hair because I’ve dyed my hair multiple times so I try not to touch my hair as much. Most of the time I usually just wear one of those hair clips and clip my hair because I don’t want to damage it any further.

Haircare is really popular now. Do you follow any routine?

Because my hair is really damaged, I actually use special shampoo and I go through a hair treatment that our salon gave to me. Then, I use hair essence to keep my hair as healthy as possible. A recommendation that our salon gave me is not to shampoo every day so I shampoo one day and then [apply] hair treatment the other day.

Do you currently have a go-to fragrance?

I actually really like fragrances so I have a whole shelf of just perfumes but I feel like [current] go-tos are from Gucci and Jo Malone. And the one I really like is Prada’s CANDY; it has this sweet scent to it, which I really like.

How do you pick what fragrance you’re using?

I pick them depending on how I feel. When I want to feel luxurious, I use the Gucci one. If I want to feel sweet and cute, I use CANDY. And then if I’m just on a normal day I use the Jo Malone one. But it really depends on the moment or my mood.

Flaunting a fearless and comfort-embracing ethos, Yue perfectly showcases her generation’s approach to fashion. The star knows that dressing in style goes beyond sporting luxury brands and hip, viral items. Hence, her ultimate advice for those looking to dive into the world of fashion is not to be afraid of wearing things that make them comfortable. “Fashion is not just [about] brands, it’s also how you style clothes. Accessories and simple clothes can make your outfits very fashionable too, so I just hope people can feel confident about what they’re wearing.”

In the series “Style Profile,” celebrities exclusively share details of their fashion and beauty with EnVi. For the first installment, the members of the K-pop group LAPILLUS offer a picture of their personal style, sartorial inspirations and favorite trends.

Six-member girl group LAPILLUS debuted in June 2022 with the explosive track “HIT YA!” Marking their debut with clean vocals, synchronized dancing, and confident rapping, the sextet went on to further prove their abilities in their sophomore release, Girl’s Round: Part 1

During her two-year evolution from trainee to striking K-pop idol, LAPILLUS’ leader, Shana, has developed a solid understanding of her personal style. In this installment of the EnVi-exclusive Style Profile series, the rising star discusses her approach to fashion, her seasonal staples, and where she draws inspiration from.

On Personal Style: A Positive Approach to Fashion

From her initial appearance on Mnet’s survival show Girls Planet 999 to LAPILLUS’ latest comeback, “GRATATA,” Shana has embraced a variety of aesthetics. In real life, however, the singer’s mellow off-duty outfits and soft-spoken demeanor stand in sharp contrast with LAPILLUS’ girl crush concept. At the time she joins EnVi for a one-on-one interview, she seems to have embraced the soft girl trend. Wearing a cozy cardigan decorated with a beige and baby blue diamond pattern on the late-night Zoom call, Shana confesses that as of late, her style go-tos are knitted pieces.

EnVi: What is your approach to fashion?

Shana: When I wear clothes, it has to be something that makes me happy and it has to be fun. You have to have an item that shows your unique identity. Nowadays, I’m into clothes made of wool, that look like a grandmother made them.

How would you describe your personal style?

Cute. When I wear clothes, I want to feel comfortable.

What are your favorite fashion accessories to wear?

My favorite accessory is a necklace. I have one that was given to me by my grandmother. I feel like even if you’re wearing comfortable clothes, with a necklace you can look more mature and elegant.

Photos courtesy of MLD Entertainment

On Trends: Staying Trendy

To sum up her personal style, Shana only needs one word: “cute.” But in addition to adorable aesthetics, she tends to lean towards comfortable clothes. Fittingly, something she has been loving lately is the retro revival. With the popularization of past trends, Y2K style has resurfaced as one of Gen Z’s go-to sources of inspiration. Everything from low-rise jeans to baby tees is back in the spotlight. One of her favorite items, Shana shares, are light-colored pants.

What is your go-to look for each season? Which is your favorite?

Spring: light cardigans or outerwear

Summer: crop tops

Autumn: knitwear or more loose-fitting pieces

Winter: long puffer jacket styled with cute scarves and hats

My favorite is the autumn look.

What trends are you into right now?

These days I really like Y2K fashion, so clothes that were trendy 20 years ago. I like the pieces that are vintage and cute.

Please share some of your style tips.

First, while it’s nice to try many different things, I feel like you have to have the simple things first. From there you can prepare like a ‘point’ item that suits everything and can give you a unique identity.

On Beauty and Skincare: Simplicity is Key

Shana’s approach to beauty and skincare places emphasis on simplicity. Her skincare routine consists of cleansing her face thoroughly and applying products diligently. But rather than focusing on products only, Shana recommends going beyond the surface level. For her, that means adopting wellness-oriented habits that prioritize her health.

How do you approach beauty and skincare?

First, I make sure to clean my face well. When I do skincare, I put products on until I feel like they’re not absorbing anymore. I think you have to sleep well, eat healthily, and try your best not to be too stressed.

What are your beauty essentials or favorite products?

I use products from the Japanese brand MUJI. Rather than buying stuff that is expensive, I think it is better to buy something with good quality and simple ingredients.

Do you have a go-to fragrance?

I don’t usually wear fragrance, because it makes my head hurt when I spray too much perfume. I tend to go for scents that are more natural, like wood, instead of manufactured or man-made scents.

On Stage: Shana of LAPILLUS

During her tenure as a K-pop idol thus far, Shana has tried two concepts for “HIT YA!” and “GRATATA.” In the group’s debut music video, Shana wears a white dress decorated with blue lace, a gold corset over a shimmering skirt, and a green plaid set with a grunge touch courtesy of fingerless black gloves and thigh-high black socks. As she mimics the shape of the classic accessory with her hands, Shana tells EnVi that her favorite part of the styling was the harness.

When you perform, how do your stage outfits and makeup looks impact your performance?

I’m not the type to be picky, so I usually wear what the stylist gives me. I feel like I have to look pretty when I wear the outfits, so I try to make myself suit the clothes well.

Do you have a favorite concept in your career?

Between “Hit Ya!” and “GRATATA,” I liked the “Hit Ya!” concept better. I liked the harness, and other outfit points that were really cool. Overall, our concept was “student” look, which really matched the teen crush concept.

What concept do you want to try?

I want to try something with royal, celestial influence. Something with gold and emerald colors, and crowns.

When she’s not on stage, Shana turns to social media to keep up with fashion. The star reveals that she draws inspiration from users who share their outfits and keeps up with current trends by checking what other people are wearing. From there, she adapts the looks she likes based on the pieces she has in her closet and her personal style.

At the end of the day, fashion is an individual experience. For Shana, clothing should be comfortable and inspire confidence in whatever situation you take on. Adapting trends to suit your personal taste keeps your closet fresh and uniquely you. Regardless of where you take style inspiration from or how you craft your outfits, the way you feel should always be a priority. “Most importantly,” Shana says, “you have to be happy when you wear your clothes.”
