Olivia Rodrigo made her first silver screen appearance in An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success in 2015. Shortly after, she starred in the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark and Disney+ original series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in 2016 and 2019, respectively. After shifting gears and releasing original music in 2020, Olivia saw a rapid rise to mainstream fame, amassing a large fan following thanks to her catchy music and memorable lyrics. As she developed her on-stage identity, Olivia also gained attention for her fashion, which combines vintage pieces with modern high-fashion Ready-to-Wear.

In the latest installment of our “Core Series” — where EnVi breaks down the fashion and beauty of our favorite celebrities — we dive into Olivia’s style, breaking down what makes her the fashion icon of Generation Z.

THE FASHION

The Core Aesthetics

Since the release of her hit song “drivers license,” Olivia has embodied everything that Gen Z loves about the resurgence of Y2K and retro trends. Butterfly motifs, miniskirts, and baby tees make regular appearances in her outfits. Like her music, however, Olivia’s style has an angsty pop-punk twist that often manifests in the form of platform boots and plaid patterns. From jeans-and-tee combinations to vintage designer dresses, the starlet has put her unique touch on both ever-changing trends and evergreen staples.

In addition to her gorgeously styled looks, Olivia perfectly channels Gen Z’s approach to fashion with her sustainable and eco-friendly wardrobe.  In an interview with PopSugar, Laura Sophie Cox, Olivia’s stylist, gushed about the fact that Olivia keeps sustainability in mind with her fashion choices. When possible, she supports slow fashion brands or shops for vintage pieces.

The Color Palette

Think of Olivia Rodrigo and one color comes to mind immediately: purple. While Olivia’s closet spans the full RGB spectrum, shades of purple constantly appear in her wardrobe. The cover of her first album, SOUR, places a moody Olivia against a lilac background, while the black and white cover of her newest release, “Vampire,” features a set of lavender bandaids. In fact, for her second Met Gala appearance in 2022, Olivia wore a glimmering violet Versace dress. The monochromatic look was complete with butterfly hair accessories, purple platforms, and smoky purple makeup.

But Olivia’s outfits are anything but predictable. Although she often recurs to purple, the “good 4 u” singer also explores with checkerboard or plaid patterns, and colors such as hot pink, chartreuse green, and royal blue. And while she may show a preference for vivid hues, Olivia has also pulled off muted tones and neutral basics just as effortlessly.

The Brands

Olivia’s brand lexicon reflects her spunky pop, it girl aesthetic. Given Vivienne Westwood’s role in melding punk style with high fashion standards, it’s no surprise that Olivia was drawn to the late designer’s work. She has been spotted wearing corsets and dresses from the brand at concerts and events alike, occasionally debuting custom pieces.

Other brands Olivia gravitates towards include Jean Paul Gaultier, Versace, and Area. Staying true to the revival of past eras’ fashion, she often picks vintage pieces from these iconic brands. Additionally, she styles newer pieces to fit the late 1990s and early 2000s’ style.

One label constantly repped by the ‪‪star is Dr. Martens, and Olivia certainly has an impressive collection: the 3989 Bex Smooth Leather Brogue Shoes worn for an SNL performance, the Dr. Martens Jadon Flatform Chunky Boots at the airport, and the Dr. Martens Molly Platform Boot on a day out, to name just a few models. Dr. Martens footwear has a significant place in punk history, having made its mark thanks to the underground punk bands of 1960s England. With Olivia’s style drawing elements from punk’s grunge, moody aesthetic, it’s fitting that Dr. Martens are on her regular rotation.

The Accessories

When it comes to accessories, there are three things that Olivia constantly cycles through, all of which perfectly align with her Gen Z image. First, gloves are a stylish detail that completes many of the singer’s outfits. While elbow-length gloves lean slightly into the regencycore look, fingerless gloves seemingly come from the 2000s-style scene. Second, any avid supporter of the Y2K aesthetic knows that hairclips are an essential item. Olivia has accessorized with a variety of clips, including those with the characteristic butterfly motif she has taken a liking to.

Finally, the actress has a knack for layering statement necklaces. Be it a bold choker with a flashy heart pendant or delicate golden chains, Olivia never misses the opportunity to add extra detail to her outfits. In addition, when it comes to footwear, Olivia has a clear liking for boots, with a particular predilection for platform boots fitting for the Bratz.

THE BEAUTY

The Makeup

Given the array of makeup styles Olivia has tried throughout her career, it’s hard to label one look as the “Olivia staple.” While she often sports a confident red lip, the singer has tried a range of colors that includes shades of dusty rose, raspberry, and light mauve. Whereas her music video makeup tends to lean into a “classic” look — think winged black eyeliner, mascara to accentuate the eyelashes, maybe a soft touch of eyeshadow, and a clearly defined lip — Olivia often explores more sultry or dramatic looks for special occasions like awards shows.

The Hair

For the entirety of her career — from her Disney Channel start to the release of “Vampire” — Olivia has kept similar hairstyles. Her natural brown hair, typically worn down and straight, has been consistent through her rise to pop stardom. But that doesn’t mean she hasn’t experimented with fun styles. A quick scroll through the ‪star’s Instagram page will give you a look at some of the looks she has tried in the past. From Y2K-style hairclips to berets, Olivia’s hairstyle and accessories often reflect the aesthetic that the rest of her look embodies, making for complete execution.

The Skin

Given the heavy makeup-wearing requirements associated with both an acting and music career, it’s no surprise that Olivia is committed to a thorough skincare routine. She has previously shared her pre-makeup routine, walking viewers through the process. After cleansing with the Epionce Milky Lotion Cleanser, she follows up with a serum by The Ordinary and completes the application using a gua sha. Before starting her makeup, Olivia actually uses a lip scrub and lip balm combination to prep her lips. This simple five-step process precedes Olivia’s makeup routine and gives her skin a fresh and healthy glow throughout the day.

The Nails

Whereas Olivia’s fashion choices tend to be adventurous, her nail preferences are comparatively more conventional. For the most part, the Disney star-turned-global phenomenon keeps her nails short and square. As for polish, anything is game — as long as it’s simple. From baby blue during the “drivers license” era to pastel green during her time off, she has tried several fun colors. Olivia is also a loyal follower of monochromatic styles, diving into black manicures often — case in point: the nail looks she sported at the Grammy Awards and the 2023 Met Gala.  Additionally, Olivia sometimes puts her own twist on classic nail trends, like when she opted for pink French tips.

Olivia’s fashion and beauty preferences complement her developing identity as one of the decade’s biggest musicians. As she explores music across genres and fashion across eras, on- and off-stage, her undeniably chic take on popular trends will only help maintain her status as a budding fashion inspiration. With sustainability and self-expression guiding her decisions, Olivia’s authentic style is bound to propel her higher in the fashion stratosphere in eras to come.

ITZY’s center and main rapper Shin Ryujin is the epitome of girl crush: deep voice, shameless flirting, and captivating on-stage expressions. From her first on-screen appearance as j-hope’s dance partner in the “Love Yourself Highlight Reel” video to ITZY’s most recent comeback, Ryujin has established herself as one of K-pop’s most charming fourth-generation performers.

In the seventh installment of our “Core” series — where EnVi breaks down the fashion and beauty of our favorite celebrities — we take a look at Ryujin’s style and what makes her the ultimate girl crush.

THE FASHION

Core Aesthetics

Through her diverse performance roster, Ryujin has worn it all — from tailored pinstripe suits to bejeweled crowns. Her on-stage styling varies depending on the concept, but she often sports high-waisted skirts, shorts, and pants that accentuate her waistline and make her legs look longer. Though ITZY’s concept strays from hyper-femininity, Ryujin’s outfits are usually less feminine than even those of her group members, who wear skirts and dresses more frequently. Rather than always adhering to conventionally feminine pieces, Ryujin’s approach to fashion seems to be less gendered. Her looks tend to complement her strong, sharp dancing. One of her most frequented silhouettes is the fitted crop top and baggy bottom combination.

Off-stage, Ryujin is a fan of comfortable clothing. ITZY’s official Instagram is speckled with off-the-clock pictures of the idol in cozy cardigans, big hoodies, and a lot of sleeveless tops. The casual ensembles resemble normcore, with elements of both skatercore and soft girl seamlessly incorporated into her wardrobe. Combined with Ryujin’s effortless charisma, her outfits never fail to make MIDZY — ITZY’s fanbase — swoon.

The Color Palette

Considering that she always seems to be showing off a new concept, Ryujin’s identity as a fashion consumer could be better described as exploratory. On and off stage, she has dabbled in essentially every color, ranging from royal purple to pastel green. However, her personal style leans towards the soft and neutral shades often associated with the normcore and softie aesthetics, with pops of bright color thrown in every once in a while. The rapper also appears comfortable pairing almost anything with a classic pair of blue, black, or white denim shorts and completing her looks with sneakers.

The Brands

When considering the various public appearances, performances, and official events that ITZY takes part in, Ryujin has gotten the opportunity to sample pieces from a wide variety of brands. However, when given the reins, Ryujin has shown a liking for a particular set of labels that complement her comfortable, yet simultaneously edgy, style. Since her pre-debut appearance on the 2017 survival competition show MixNine, Ryujin has frequented pieces from Adidas. From caps to leggings, the brand’s athleticwear provides the perfect attire to fit Ryujin’s self-described comfort-first style. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that ITZY has collaborated with Adidas in previous campaigns.

Other brands that Ryujin sports often — partly thanks to her associations with them through ITZY — include Burberry, Louis Vuitton, and Charles & Keith. ITZY has relied on high fashion and streetwear brands alike in music videos, performances, and promotional content, including magazine photoshoots and collection campaigns. In terms of footwear, Ryujin boasts an impressive collection. Fans have noted that the idol appears to favor shoes by Golden Goose.

The Accessories

Fans of ITZY will agree that a staple in Ryujin’s outfits is a hat of any sort. From beanies to caps and even fuzzy hats, the idol shows no shortage of love for all variations of the classic accessory. She’s been seen wearing hats from Know Wave, Obey, and Saint James, among other brands. The easy-to-style piece only furthers Ryujin’s effortless look, boosting her relatable, girl-next-door vibes.

Additionally, other accessorizing picks are earrings, ear cuffs, and studs. By layering several types of ear jewelry, Ryujin creates a small, glittering mosaic to accompany even the simplest of looks. Earrings, which can sometimes be a subtle detail, tend to elevate an outfit or complement a particular theme. For example, during ITZY’s “LOCO” promotions, Ryujin accompanied a varsity jacket with a pair of silver heart earrings and a chain choker to support the comeback’s spunky concept.

THE BEAUTY

The Makeup

Ryujin’s makeup is ever-changing to match ITZY’s concept and her personal preferences. Glitter-infused looks are a classic theme throughout her various eyeshadow-and-liner combinations. Whether subtly ingrained in her eyeshadow or applied as stick-on stars, the sparkly material is essential in Ryujn’s on-stage beauty routine.

Meanwhile, off-stage Ryujin has shared makeup looks she has created herself. In contrast with the work of ITZY’s makeup artists, Ryujin’s own attempts at doing her makeup result in softer, more natural looks. The idol is known to comfortably upload content and participate in makeup-and filter-free live streams, embracing her everyday look.

The Hair

From blonde-turned-pink highlights in “Dalla Dalla” to a dusty grey bob in “Cheshire,” Ryujin has pulled off various hairstyles throughout her four-year tenure with ITZY. The idol has experimented extensively with hair dye — bubblegum pink in “ICY,” orange in “In the Morning,” midnight blue in “WANNABE,” and even duo-toned dye in “LOCO” — and expressed that it has taken a toll on her hair’s health. Regardless of its color, Ryujin’s hair has always been relatively short in length, typically framing the idol’s face or hovering slightly above her collarbones.

The Skin

Enviably smooth, impossibly glowy skin is the norm for K-pop idols. Amidst the many idols sharing complicated skincare routines and recommending various products with fans, Ryujin is highly praised for being one of K-pop’s more relatable figures. She constantly uploads pictures that show her natural skin texture, blemishes, and even facial hair to ITZY’s social media accounts. Her straightforward and honest approach to social media is refreshing and empowering, reminding viewers that beauty comes in various forms and that not even K-pop idols are airbrushed in real life.

Fittingly, then, Ryujin does not promote an overly complicated skincare routine. Fellow ITZY members Yeji, Lia, Chaeryeong, and Yuna have teasingly pointed out that Ryujin’s skincare consists of “sometimes” washing her face. Ryujin herself has confirmed that she keeps things simple — her go-to skincare tip is to hydrate sufficiently.

The Nails

When she’s not promoting or filming with ITZY, Ryujin tends to keep her nail art simple and practical with a clean, no-polish manicure or short, round monochromatic nails. On the other hand, when participating in her K-pop idol activities — video shoots, music show performances, promotional campaigns — her nails are given the full star treatment. Depending on the concept she’s embracing, Ryujin’s nails range from long, sharp, and metallic to short, square, and multicolored.

One ongoing trend fans have noticed is that Ryujin always seems to lose at least one of her nails during ITZY’s promotions. Starting as early as her appearance on MixNine, fans jokingly realized that part of Ryujin’s personal brand seems to be sporting a one-nail-missing look. The coincidental pattern has developed inadvertently to become one of the fandom’s inside jokes.

Ryujin’s approach to fashion and beauty reflects the relatable, down-to-earth personality she displays during live streams and interactions with fans. From calling out industry double standards and stereotypes to sharing unconventional (and unfiltered) personal advice, Ryujin continues to push the expectations people have set for K-pop idols. More than a flawless celebrity on screen, Ryujin’s real personality draws fans from all over the world.

Rapper, singer, dancer, model, filmmaker, and photographer, a man of many hats, SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu has risen as one of K-pop’s most prominent multihyphenates. In tandem with a slew of event appearances, brand associations, and a stylish but grounded wardrobe, the singer has asserted a place in the fashion scene.

In the sixth installment of our “Core” series — where EnVi breaks down the fashion and beauty of our favorite celebrities — we dissect Kim Mingyu’s style and what makes him one of the best-dressed South Korean stars.

THE FASHION

The Style: Preppy with a Twist

Although preppy aesthetics have recently risen as one of the popular styles on social media platforms like TikTok, Mingyu has long been favoring a classic, timeless take on fashion. Occasionally adding hints of youthfulness through streetwear, his style affinities seem to be influenced by his love for all things vintage — film cameras, black and white photography, old-school jazz and blues, and even ballroom dancing! From his lookbook, it is also easy to tell that his polished looks often reflect his passion for finer pursuits like golf, art, and fine dining.

The Wardrobe

Often incorporating well-tailored essentials into his wardrobe, Mingyu keeps his outfits sharp, even off-schedule. This refined, masculine style bestows him with the classic heartthrob aesthetic that he regularly sports with confidence. On a day out and about, one of Mingyu’s recurrent style formulas includes a double-breasted blazer, paired with sneakers and jeans. Most often, the idol chooses a Balmain blazer as his go-to outerwear. Another foundational piece for the rapper is the traditional white shirt, in different iterations and brands, including the Louis Vuitton and Thom Browne.

On occasion, Mingyu loosens up and dresses more comfortably, selecting relaxed-fit pieces that still retain his dapper and refined essence. For instance, when traveling, he wears items such as a contrast stitch jacket by Acne Studios and the Moncler Gelt Shacket. On colder days, he makes the most out of his tall figure, playing around with full-length outwear like a denim-lined coat from Greg Lauren. On warmer days, the star goes full preppy, opting for posh polo shirts.

When he prefers comfort, the rapper dresses in oversized hoodies and sweatshirts of a looser fit than his regular picks. However, he keeps his preppy sensibilities with pieces like a Tom Ford velour tracksuit and a Raf Simons varsity-style sweatshirt. In addition to these high-end brands, Mingyu also has an array of casual pieces from local Korean labels including Romantic Crown, Visvim, Mahagrid and NoManual

The Accessories

As a true fashionista, Mingyu doesn’t shy away from accessorizing with purpose. Contrasting with outfits that generally consist of timeless classics, a touch of boldness shines through his choice of accessories. One of the idol’s favorite ways of elevating his looks is by adding eyewear, often in bold shapes and large frames, courtesy of brands like Chanel and Gentle Monster

The rapper is also a lover of bags. Judging by his Instagram posts, this It-Boy flaunts a collection of the latest It-bags that includes the Celine Mini Triomphe, the Prada Triangle, the Bottega Veneta Intrecciato, the Rimowa Polycarbonate Cross-Body, and the Goyard Matignon — that he’s been carrying for years. This finely curated selection of bags shows that the singer keeps a close eye on the fashion world and the latest trending items. Nevertheless, Mingyu still opts for more timeless iterations of these bags, shying away from flashy embellishments and colors.

 The Jewelry

When it comes to jewelry, Mingyu prefers to keep things simple. Whether it is with fine jewelry or fashion pieces, the idol embraces simplicity of design. To upgrade his looks with a dash of refinement, the rapper often sports items like the Clash De Cartier and the Louis Vuitton Volt Necklace. Sometimes, he goes for edgier articles from the likes of P:Reinsein and Chanel. However, he always leans toward the monochromatic color scheme and subtle textures.

Another of Mingyu’s areas of interest is the world of timepieces. From his collection and the ease he has to style such collector items, one can easily pinpoint that he’s an avid lover of watches. Similar to bags, he knows the items worth investing in and opts for neutral-colored dials and minimal embellishments. Amongst his collection, some notable pieces include the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore, the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M, and the Rolex Datejust.

The Brands

Boasting an extensive collection of brands in his closet, Mingyu regularly slips on items from Moncler, CELINE, Balmain, and Chanel. While Balmain, Celine, and Chanel make for evident choices, Moncler’s polished and structured silhouettes are also a style match for Mingyu’s style affinities. On a more local scale, the musician is a fan of Korean names like Romantic Crown, VisVim, and P:ReinSein

As a sought-after star to collaborate with, Mingyu is often seen promoting high-end fashion brands on his Instagram feed. From Versace to Burberry and Prada, Mingyu flawlessly incorporates luxury into his wardrobe and without compromising his signature aesthetics. In more recent times, the star has been spotted fully clad in Louis Vuitton, including looks taken from the coveted Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collaboration.

THE BEAUTY

The Skincare & Makeup

With a remarkable catalog of brand endorsements under his belt, Mingyu is no stranger to the world of beauty. From promotions of brands like the SAEM during his career’s earlier days to his current role as Innisfree’s global model, the star has cemented himself as a go-to ambassador for beauty brands. In between, the rapper has promoted other labels including Laura Mercier and Lancôme.

Naturally, this reputation makes Mingyu’s skincare and makeup routines coveted pieces of information. And throughout the years, the idol has shared a few details and even offered some tips. For one thing, the singer has mentioned the importance of removing makeup as soon as it is no longer needed — he even demonstrated the process in a now-viral live video. For another, Mingyu has revealed that one of his go-to skincare rituals is moisturizing and applying products such as Lancôme’s Clarifique Exfoliating Face Essence.

While most of the time Mingyu shows himself with minimal to no makeup off-stage, when he does wear makeup, the singer requests natural looks from his makeup artists. As shown in a video for Elle Korea, the star favors makeup styles that highlight what’s already there. According to Mingyu himself, he prefers light-textured foundations —  like Lancôme’s Teint Idole — that give off a no-makeup finish and are “comfortable” to sport. Instead, the focus of his makeup is on the lips and eyebrows.

The Hair

Since SEVENTEEN’s debut in 2015, Mingyu has flaunted his fair share of stylish hairstyles and hair colors — from orange to purple. But despite changing his hair often to match his group’s music releases, Mingyu’s hairstyles have been consistent, often featuring either casual side parts or more polished slicked-backs. In more recent years, Mingyu has mastered the art of side partings, opting for curtain hairstyles in different forms, ranging from the more coiffed to the most relaxed versions.

After letting his hair grow to medium length, Mingyu also sported effortlessly tousled hair, slightly reminiscent of popular hairstyles during the ‘90s. Adding texture to the look, the star would favor middle parts, with the hair slightly lifted at the front and the sides either tucked behind the ears or let down freely in very subtle waves.

The Fragrances

Just like many of his fellow idols, Mingyu has shared his fragrance preferences in different instances. Among the names he’s mentioned is the cult favorite Le Labo SANTAL 33, a perfume known for its woody, warm, and slightly floral accords. Dubbed “the fragrance of the stars,” this scent is fitting for a person with Mingyu’s penchant for classics.

Similarly, during interviews, Mingyu has revealed that he carries Santa Maria Novella’s Melograno Eau de Cologne in his bag. Just like the rest of his choices, this Italian fragrance “evokes an old-fashioned elegance” with predominantly woody and earthy accords that make it an ideal scent for the star.

Additionally, as a former endorser of Laura Mercier and Lancôme, Mingyu has promoted the Vanille and Idôle Eau de Parfum fragrances. The first one is an eau de toilette that the idol himself has worn and is described as a sweet and powdery eau de toilette with orchid, heliotrope, and tangerine top notes.

Living up to his reputation as one of SEVENTEEN’s most fashionable members, Mingyu continues to cultivate a distinctive style. Equal parts polished and modern, the rapper is making a name for himself in the fashion sphere with choices that reflect both his refined taste and gentle personality. As the South Korean idol navigates his growing stardom, fans can look forward to more of Mingyu’s effortless but timeless take on fashion.

An unbounded source of style inspiration, NCT’s official Fashion Evaluator, Johnny Suh, has emerged as one of the most stylish K-pop celebrities. Beyond his Instagram-worthy looks and penchant for experimentation, the singer has taken his compelling style to the world stage, proving that he is a total Fashion Darling

In the fifth installment of our series, “Core” — where EnVi breaks down the fashion and beauty of our favorite celebrities — we take a detailed look at what has made NCT’s Johnny one of the young stars reaching the “pinnacles of fashion stardom.”

THE FASHION

The Aesthetics: Anatomy of the Boy Next Door

Despite being generally recognized for his boy-next-door aura and approachable personality, Johnny Suh has cemented himself as an undeniable style icon. From his casual outfit shares on social media to his red-carpet appearances, the singer has demonstrated his fashion-forward sensibilities by freely experimenting with clothes, colors, and styles. However, Johnny has also proven that abiding by your own fashion rules will always be a winning formula.

Loyal to his personal taste and seemingly aware of what suits him better, Johnny is always effortlessly well-dressed. The singer channels an easygoing approach, part streetwear, part luxury but always reflective of his preferences. Some of his style key points include a predilection for comfort and play on silhouettes, embracing items like hoodies, baggy pants, oversized shirts, and tank tops.

The Wardrobe: Casual But Always Elevated

Despite Johnny’s penchant for causal, almost off-handed looks, his wardrobe is an eclectic and fashion-savvy mix of pieces and brands. Even when he’s wearing a T-shirt and baggy denim — a style recipe he often sticks to — the singer always levels up his looks with coveted, niche, and IYKYK fashion items and names. In Johnny’s wardrobe, contemporary labels like Vêtements, Jacquemus, Margiela, Jil Sander, and Lanvin mix seamlessly.

Accessorizing is another field where Johnny is particularly adroit. From the likes of the Bottega Veneta Maxi Padded Tech Cassette to the Peter Do Dumpling, the star owns an enviable selection of it bags that always elevate his outfits to the fashion connoisseur territory. Similarly, Johnny understands the timeless allure of a quality watch, often complementing his outfits with items such as the Rolex Datejust 41, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer, or the vintage version of the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse.

The Sans Shirt Pioneer

While off-stage Johnny favors a more subdued and relaxed style, on the red carpets and onstage the singer has been rewriting dress rules with shirtless fashion statements. As part of NCT, Johnny has explored different concepts through the years but in recent promotional cycles, he has been at the helm of the shirtless trend, barely sporting a top in teaser pictures, music videos, and live performances. While evidently, fans can’t get enough of Johnny’s washboard abs, bare male chests have become one of the hottest male fashion trends over the past year, which goes to prove —  once again — that sartorially speaking, Johnny is always one step ahead.

To further prove the point, Johnny took the sans shirt trend to the biggest event of American fashion — namely, the Met Gala. In 2022, the singer became the only K-pop star in attendance at the prestigious charity event and for the occasion, Johnny fully ditched the shirt, opting to embody Gilded Glamour in a silk three-piece suit by Peter Do. Of course, the look — described by the famed stylist Nayeli de Alba as a futuristic, yet classy take on “The New Gentleman”— didn’t go unnoticed. Johnny’s first foray into international fashion events was a massive success: the star became the most-mentioned celebrity on social media that night, largely surpassing the mentions of the rest of the male attendants and posing serious competition to Met Gala co-host, Blake Lively, who ranked second.

THE BEAUTY

The Makeup

On the day-to-day Johnny sports an au naturel look. As seen in the NCT 127 24hr RELAY CAM series, Johnny seems to gravitate towards a relaxed approach to daily beauty, sticking to simple skincare steps. Compared to some of his peers’ sought-after beauty routines, the rapper is rarely seen using more than one or two beauty products. Since the artist is known for his laid-back personality, it is of course no surprise that he favors a quick and simple routine.

Despite this, NCT’s makeup artists do not shy away from putting a wash of warm-toned soft brown shadow all over the lid and applying a touch of brown liner to accentuate his naturally cat-like eyes. On occasion, Johnny is also spotted with deeper eye makeup to match NCT 127’s more sultry concepts. Most of the time, he pairs the effortless brown eye look with a peach or clear lip balm. Rather than sticking to specific concepts, his makeup always focuses on letting his natural beauty shine.

Since Johnny is not one to shy away from trying new things, people have also noticed that he is a member of the Neo nail polish club. The star was first seen wearing nail polish in a Johnny’s Communication Center video filmed with his fellow bandmate, Yuta. With the video series focused on trying unconventional activities, Johnny and Yuta sat down to get their nails done for the first time. (The duo even attempted to do each other’s nails at the end of the video, sparking some laughs.) While Yuta got a bold rock-and-roll-inspired set of nails, Johnny opted for bright colors and intricate designs such as an abstract sunflower, sunny-side-up eggs, and a crescent moon with a fisherman resembling the Dreamworks logo.

The Scents

Just like his fellow bandmates, Johnny has a plethora of scents that he favors — and fans have become keen on. Known to like fresh scents that often feature citrus, aquatic, and woody notes, Johnny’s selections often evoke feelings of adventure. In the past, the star revealed Versace Man Eau Fraiche as one of his preferred fragrances. This subtly sexy and fresh eau de toilette — now recognized as a classic Johnny staple — consists of notes of white lemon, rosewood, and sycamore wood.

Recently, Johnny shared his new favorite cologne. The unique, airy fragrance is called Byredo Open Sky and features notes of pomelo, black pepper, and hemp leaves.  While many fans tried to get their hands on the bottle of unisex perfume, the fragrance was already sold out within days on the retailer’s website.

The Tattoos

Over the years, fans have watched Johnny carefully curate his nature-themed tattoo collection consisting of a sunflower, an olive branch, a jaguar, and a swallow. In the past, any glimpse of his ink created a lot of buzz among NCT’s fandom. However, due to his viral solo stage at the NCT127 The Link tour, fans have now seen the artist’s tattoos on full display.

The sunflower tattoo was the first to be revealed to the public eye. During an interview in 2020, the artist mentioned that the body art design served him as a reminder to always stay positive no matter the circumstance.

Meanwhile, the olive branch was rumored to appear around the same time as the sunflower tattoo. The artist’s reason behind this tattoo is unknown, but the olive branch historically symbolizes friendship and peace. Despite being first spotted in December 2020, in 2021, Johnny also revealed the tattoo of a jaguar on his left shoulder. The detailed tattoo covers his left shoulder to mid-bicep.

Johnny’s most recent tattoo (a swallow) was spotted for the first time during NCT127’s The Link concert in Los Angeles. Sitting on his shoulder, the tattoo is speculated to be a matching design shared between the 1995 line of NCT 127 (members Johnny, Taeyong, and Yuta.)

The Hairstyles

Johnny usually leans towards natural colors, ostensibly leaving the heavy bleach duty to fellow members such as Mark. The 28-year-old’s signature is a clean slick-back, perfectly coiffed with a single calculated strand imbued with his brand of Chicago levity. The greaser mullet mish-mash was perhaps no better epitomized than in his Met Gala look last year.

Of course, that isn’t to say Johnny’s hair has never seen a more experimental light in his K-pop career. Who could forget the luscious golden locks that swept across his shoulders with every step of the “Wakey-Wakey” choreography? Any fans who were disappointed to find out that was a wig were later delighted when Johnny grew out his hair, for real this time, during the group’s RESONANCE Pt.2 era.

Johnny is a Synonym for Fashion

Having paved a way for sartorial fame through his individual activities and collective fashion exploits with NCT, Johnny Suh is nowadays a bonafide style icon. With fashion practically attached to his name, the Chicago-born is always gorgeously on-trend and never shies away from imposing his own style and beauty rules. With a modelesque physique and taste to spare, isn’t any wonder that Johnny has charmed the fashion circles. Whatever is next for the American singer, he’s very likely to continue expanding his portfolio with his loyal-to-himself, deeply authentic style.

Among the K-pop stars stepping into the fashion limelight in recent years, SEVENTEEN‘s THE8 has consistently explored and experimented with his personal style. Born Xu Minghao, THE8 is a key member of SEVENTEEN’s performance unit, a singer-songwriter, and blossoming contemporary dancer. Throughout his career, Minghao has always been expressive and evocative about who he is. Visually, he translates this poignant sense of self through a personal aesthetic that knows no boundaries.

In the fourth installment of our “Core” series — where EnVi breaks down the fashion and beauty of our favorite celebrities — we’ll dissect the different components of Minghao’s personal style.

The Style: Experimentation at his core

With the number 8 considered lucky in Chinese culture, the stage alias “THE8” signifies the infinite potential Minghao holds within himself. Just like his name suggests, there’s no strict set of rules to Minghao’s core style. Perhaps then, the true key to his distinctive aesthetic is a refined sense of experimentalism, and not shying away from the unfamiliar.

Whether it is through bright saturated streetwear, an edgy monochromatic look, or even venturing into preppiness, the common thread of Minghao’s style is his unapologetic boldness. Minghao himself has previously shared through interviews that he is not afraid of trying out new styles. “Even if it’s a somewhat excessive style in other people’s eyes,[…] I don’t feel any repulsion towards new styles, and I don’t mind what others think,” he has previously stated*.

The Wardrobe: Cool, Current, and Classy

One of the ways in which Minghao formulates new looks is through layering. With an extensive personal collection of basics and statement pieces, the star is able to create endless variations of outfits. If you take a look at his past outfits, a key component of his layered looks is his choice of outerwear. Whether it is sporting a muted full-length coat for windy days, a structured-shoulder coat for more dramatic looks, or a sporty windbreaker for casual days, fans can expect Minghao to show up and show out.

Minghao also manages to be a scene-stealer both on stage and off-camera with his risk-taking attitude towards fashion. When he’s feeling cool and edgy, you can spot him sporting all-black outfits with hardware accessories to match; when he’s feeling more laid back and relaxed, he’ll spend the day in some loose-fitting pieces; when he’s feeling more poised and luxurious, you’ll see him clad in nostalgic and preppy items like knitted vests or tailored blazers.

The Accessories

An outfit is not complete without some accessories. Minghao is aware of this. With a packed schedule and jetsetter lifestyle, a good bag is one of Minghao’s must-haves, and he prefers versatile and timeless treasures. Examples include the Dior’s Oblique Saddle Bag, and the Chanel Gabrielle Hobo. With versatility as a priority, scarves have also become a go-to accessory for the singer, who has them incorporated into his day-to-day looks and even his pre-planned broadcast outfits. Cases in point: his appearance in Knowing Brothers, the Seoul Music Awards, and even concept photos.

Of course, we can’t talk about accessories without mentioning shoes. When it comes to footwear, Minghao loves a good statement shoe. Just like any 20-something-year-old interested in fashion, the musician has his own extensive collection of sneakers. However, Minghao shows how much of a fashion aficionado he really is with an assortment of rare niche footwear like the Jil Sander Python Boots, Balenciaga’s Braided Derbies, Rick Owens Phlegethon Sneakers, and the cult classic Maison Margiela Tabi Sneakers.

The Brands

In sync with his experimental style, Minghao tends to shop from a diverse range of brands. One brand he has consistently flaunted throughout the years is Chanel. His Chanel collection includes sunglasses, brooches, belts, scarves, signature pieces like the J12 watch, CC Turnlock Necklace,2020 Dad Sandals, and even the rare seasonal Coco Neige Flap Bag from the brand’s Fall-Winter 2018 collection.

When it comes to luxury brands, Minghao is also spotted wearing Gucci — a perfect match for his more theatrical and retro looks. On the streetwear end of the luxury brand spectrum, Minghao owns multiple pieces from the ever-so-trendy Balenciaga, and Vetements, which he sports for more casual and youthful looks.

However, the star doesn’t sport high-end international brands only. Minghao is an avid fan of South Korean brands like Acme de la Vie and P:ReinSein. He’s also a frequent wearer of NiRO, Blackpurple, and Apple Pie Order.

THE BEAUTY

The Makeup & Hair

On the beauty front, Minghao either goes bold or goes home. With his unique and sultry eye shape, a classic smokey eye is the best way to enhance his best features. Another distinct feature of his are his lips, which are often amplified with gloss in rosy pink tones. When the look requires a more gritty, punkish finish, he also tries out a variety of piercings and plays around with contact lenses.

When we’re talking about Minghao’s beauty moments, we can’t skip a mention of his hair. For those who aren’t familiar with the idol, his hairstyles have always been a quick signifier of SEVENTEEN’s eras. For instance, one look that helped Minghao make his mark as a fashion icon was his jet black mullet circa 2018 and 2019, right at the start of the e-boy aesthetic rise. This hairstyle emphasized a mysterious and ambiguous vibe in an era where the mullet became one of the most in-demand hairstyles in K-pop. Since then, the idol seems to have grown comfortable with keeping his hair at a longer length. Mullet aside, other notable Minghao hairstyles include a wavy permed ginger look, punky crimson red hair, and his current blue and periwinkle blend.

The Scents

Similarly, the dancer knows the power of a good fragrance. As someone invested in luxury and art, it’s only natural for him to take an interest in the world of scents. In a video that showcased his vanity table, the idol offered a look at his perfume selection. From the collection displayed, it’s clear that the artist takes his fragrances seriously. With fragrance-specialist perfumes from Le Labo, Dyptique, and Santa Maria Novella, it is safe to assume that Minghao is a lover of more woody, powdery, and light floral scents.

With a vocal passion and knowledge of the arts—be it performance, visual, music, or any other type of art—it’s no shocker that Minghao has a refined and curated taste that’s unique to his own identity. To truly encapsulate the essence of his experimental aesthetic, one must truly look at the world with an open mind and open heart. Not just by seeing the beauty even in the oddest of objects, but also by embracing the fact that our personal style and taste constantly evolves and being brave enough to unapologetically take risks with your fashion choices. Minghao does exactly that.

Since his arrival on the entertainment scene, South Korean star and NCT member, Lee Jeno has proven to be a jack of all trades. From dancing and singing to rapping and acting, Jeno excels at everything. Beyond a flourishing music career, however, the young idol has rightfully become a rising style star. In the third installment of our “Core” series — where EnVi breaks down the fashion and beauty of our favorite celebrities — we take a look at Jeno’s style.

THE FASHION

The Aesthetics of Good-Looking

Starting his career at a young age, K-pop idol Jeno has built a portfolio with roles in different fields, including advertising, music, and acting. Fashion, naturally, has not fallen behind. In addition to his expanding fame in the entertainment landscape, Jeno has also caught the attention of international fashion brands — which surprises no one.

While exploring different themes and concepts as a member of NCT and the group’s subunit NCT DREAM, Jeno has flaunted the ability to pull off any look. Meanwhile, on the personal front, Jeno has translated his multifaceted career into varied and ever-changing style choices. A true chameleon, not only does he look great in every ensemble he steps out in, but he can also transition from one aesthetic to another with ease. And though Jeno’s style can not be categorized, everybody seems to agree that his confidence, disarmingly good looks, and star power make him stand out all the time.

Whether he is captured in street style looks — where he usually favors low-key, understated pieces — donning more experimental outfits on stage or attending fashion events clad in contemporary suiting, Jeno is guaranteed to always turn heads.

The Wardrobe

While on stage Jeno and his groups have mastered the art of switching brands, themes, and styles effortlessly, in real life Jeno continues to build his personal brand and experiment with clothes. Sometimes, Jeno opts for streetwear via hoodies, jogger pants, and plain T-shirts. Some other times, he goes for chic modernist, wearing fitted jeans, button-down shirts, solid color sweaters, denim jackets, and shirts, as well as long coats.

It is through his activities as a member of NCT, however, that Jeno has grown to become synonymous with experimentation. From utilitarian garments and work gear-inspired ensembles to sexier outfits—think sleeveless vests and accessories that highlight his waist— Jeno has tried most of the styles worth talking about. In 2022 alone, the singer has put his own spin on the biggest fashion trends sporting punk-infused styles and championing the cut-out trend for males.

The Brands

Just like most of his group peers, Jeno has found the perfect balance when it comes to mixing a wide range of brands. Jeno’s all-encompassing wardrobe goes alongside an equally diverse assortment of labels ranging from legacy fashion houses to contemporary luxury and affordable local brands.

In his daily life, Jeno is often spotted sporting basics from South Korean, celebrity-approved, brands such as FLAREUP, DIBS, and SAINTPAIN. The added twist usually comes when he complements his looks with pieces from brands like Balenciaga, Off-White, or Saint Laurent. In particular, Jeno owns an enviable collection of shoes that includes Balenciaga’s coveted speed sneakers, Dior’s high-top sneakers, and several models from the Scandinavian brand Acne. Additionally, Jeno often throws accent pieces and accessories like bags, hats, sunglasses, and watches from the likes of Prada, Dior, and Audemars Piguet

Last, but definitely not least, Jeno is currently building a friendship with the American luxury brand PETER DO. The idol is set to dip his toes in modeling, walking the runway of the brand’s Spring 2023 show on the fifth day of New York Fashion Week, so it is safe to assume that we’ll soon see Jeno rock the best of PETER DO off the runways too. So far, the singer already sported a suit from the brand to attend Vogue’s 130th-anniversary event, Vogue World

THE BEAUTY

We can always count on Jeno to take risks with just about everything when it comes to beauty. From lively hair colors to jaw-dropping faux piercings and tattoos, the singer ensures that fans are wowed every time.

Starting with the Basics

Jeno may be known for the artistic elements of his beauty styles, but underneath it all is a smooth and hydrated base to start with. In the 2021 NCT 24hr Relay Cam, Dr. Belmeur’s Clarifying Moisturizer can be seen on Jeno’s desk. The moisturizer is known to combat excess oil production as well as minimize the appearance of pores on the skin. Hence why the clarity of his skin is always praised by fans.

The Hair: Standout Hair Colors

As a member with some of the most striking hair color choices, Jeno doesn’t shy away from eccentric shades. Every hue suits him in a way that never fails to impress us all. For instance, fans adored his bubblegum pink hair for NCT Dream’s second full album, Glitch Mode. The shade brought out the rosy undertone of Jeno’s skin and softened the “edgy” fashion style of the era.

Jeno has mastered all forms of blue and has even been named in several articles for rocking the hair color. Since he was labeled as one of the “Top 10 Idols who Looked Best in Blue Hair” in January of 2021, Jeno has continuously proved how accurate the title is. Most recently, he stunned in a navy blue for Dream’s “Beatbox” comeback. To liven up the deep shade, stylists gave him a unique undercut complete with shaggy, gelled bangs and sharp shaved lines on either side of his head. The look embraces ‘Y2K’ hair trends for men, but offers a more modern take.

Two years earlier, Jeno donned azure blue hair for NCT U’s “90’s Love” era. The vibrancy of his hair was marveled at by fans everywhere, and even reminded us of NCT Dream’s “We Young” performance back in 2017 when he sported aqua-colored hair. Despite changing his hair color numerous times since 2017, Jeno’s hair remains healthy. This may be in part due to his use of Urban Tribe’s Hydrate Leave-In Foam, also seen in the 24hr Relay Cam. The no-rinse foam is perfect for moisturizing dry hair.

Regardless of hair color, his famous undercut hairstyle is a favorite amongst all fans. It compliments his face shape perfectly by elongating the face and allowing his sharp cheekbones and jawline to be the center of attention.

The Makeup: Admirable Edginess

When it comes to eye makeup, Jeno has two go-to looks: a rust-toned smokey look with simple accents or a black liner look created to accentuate his intense eyes. The first look brings out the depth of Jeno’s eyes without overshadowing his hair, jewelry, or clothing. What makes this style unique to Jeno is the inclusion of simple, but eye-catching shapes always on the side of his face that is opposite his adored beauty mark. For NCT Dream’s “Ridin’” comeback, Jeno is seen with a subtly smoked-out reddish brown shadow along his upper and lower lids. A dark brown liner is used to elongate the eyes and continue his natural upper line in a downward motion. What may be the most important feature of this look, however, is the cross drawn in black eyeliner on the top of his cheek. Similarly, Jeno wears two graphic lines in the shape of open triangles for “Hello Future.” The triangles are a perfect resemblance to the inner and outer corners of his eye.

Darker eye looks can offer a more fierce look to Jeno’s already exceptional facial structure. In NCT Dream’s “BOOM” music video, Jeno wears some of the heaviest black eyeliner we’ve seen on him. More recently, Jeno has donned a grayish smokey look with black liner on the waterline for “Villain,” his collaboration with KEY. To elevate the eye, a silvery shimmer shadow is placed at the inner corners and a single line of black shimmer drips down at the center of his eye to mimic a teardrop.

The Beauty Statement: Body Decorations

A piece on Jeno’s key beauty moments wouldn’t be complete without mention of his game-changing piercings and tattoos. Although temporary, the statement look created a permanent memory for all his fans.

Since 2021, Jeno has placed silver flat back studs and rings, and black dots on his eyebrows to mimic the look of an actual eyebrow piercing.  To add to the edginess of his looks, Jeno has even added black writing on his neck to give the appearance of daring tattoos. He caused a frenzy on social sites when he graced the 2021 MAMA stage with “You’re My Universe” written on his neck in black liner. He doesn’t shy away from making a bold statement with these special pieces.

Never afraid to experiment with fashion and beauty, Jeno has explored several styles throughout his career. To this day, the idol continues to explore and shape his own aesthetics and hone his sartorial focus. As Jeno continues to expand his career on different fronts, EnVi anticipates more of his fashion endeavors and looks forward to more of the star and his style file.

It’s not easy to leave a personal style mark as a member of one of the largest and most successful K-pop groups in the industry. Yet — amid a handful of other equally multitalented and stylish bandmates — singer, actor, and Prada’s global ambassador, Jeong Jaehyun has built major fashion credentials. In between his recognizable style and high-fashion associations, the South Korean idol is undoubtedly a bona fide style icon.

In the second installment of our “Core” series — where EnVi breaks down the fashion and beauty of our favorite celebrities — we’ll take a comprehensive look at what has made NCT’s Jaehyun one of K-pop’s new Fashion Darlings

THE FASHION

The Aesthetics: Heartthrob of Decades Past

In the last couple of years, K-pop star Jaehyun has experienced a meteoric rise into the upper echelon of fashion. But in addition to his association with the Italian brand Prada, the singer and actor has earned attention for his polished personal wardrobe. With charisma to spare and a style that is reminiscent of the ‘90s most loved heartthrobs, Jaehyun favors easy-to-wear, clean looks with just the perfect amount of retro. Think of staples from the ’90s style book — loose jeans, leather and denim jackets, bucket hats— and you’re basically describing Jaehyun’s closet.

In line with his nostalgia-inducing outfits, Jaehyun often nods at the ’90s via tucked-in T-shirts, a trend popularized by the likes of James Dean and Marlon Brando and later reprised in the last decade of the 20th century. Similarly, the singer has adopted other ‘90s trends such as unbuttoned shirts, backward caps, and matching oversized tops and bottoms. Lately, Jaehyun also seems to have followed one or two lessons from his style predecessors. Not only has he mastered the art of sporting bowling shirts and dressing for the front row, but he has also taken notes on how to don the divisive oversized suit

Though in a way Jaehyun’s aesthetics are bordering normcore territory, at EnVi we believe that “Certified Heartthrob” is a more appropriate title. Chiseled face, white shirt, and jeans made up, once upon a time, the most successful heartthrob style formula and Jeong Jaehyun has brought it back flawlessly.

The Brands: Prada’s MVP

Although it goes without saying that Jaehyun’s starter pack includes several Prada items — after all, he is the brand’s global ambassador — the singer also wears a handful of other brands on repeat. From Rhuigi Villaseñor’s RHUDE to French luxury label Saint Laurent, Jaehyun knows how to mix and match brands accordingly.

In between, Jaehyun has also demonstrated his penchant for cult-favorite designer Martine Rose and the fashion insider’s favorite, Nanushka. Other Jaehyun-approved labels include Chris Leba’s IYKYK brand R13, Amiri, WOOYOUNGMI, and Raf Simons. On the most affordable side of the spectrum, Jaehyun often opts for Nike and Converse for footwear.

But of course, as Prada’s MVP, Jaehyun has first dibs on the Italian house’s unreleased items and newest collections. Back in January 2022, for example, ahead of the collection’s release, the singer took to Instagram to flaunt a look from the popular “Pradidas” — Prada and Adidas — collaboration. Later in the year, the singer also showed his then 12 million Instagram followers, exclusive products from the Prada Tropico capsule collection.

The Wardrobe Must-Haves: The Power of Basics

Despite becoming Prada’s hot property in 2022, Jaehyun’s looks continue to be digestible and built around wardrobe-essentials. The idol often offers masterclasses on how to style effortless yet fashionable outfits with foundational pieces such as plain tees, denim, white shirts, crew neck sweatshirts, sweat pants, hoodies, and knit sweaters.

In an interview with the Japanese fashion magazine MEN’S NON-NO, Jaehyun explained that he prefers to keep his day-to-day style classic, as opposed to bringing out hip-hop-inspired looks for activities such as rehearsals. It is no wonder then, that many of the pieces in Jaehyun’s closet are staples that can easily transition from casual chic to street style. This versatility is also reflected in Jaehyun’s palette of choice, consisting mostly of black, white, grey, and other core colors.

Additionally, Jaehyun has not seldom demonstrated the power of accessorizing with purpose. The singer often sticks to classic footwear — Converse shoes, Nike sneakers, and Chelsea boots—minimal, but luxurious jewelry — chain necklaces and bracelets from brands like Saint Laurent and Chrome Hearts —and headwear including baseball caps and bucket hats.

The Mindset: Less Is Definitely More

If Jaehyun’s key to flawless style could be synthesized into two words, it’s definitely a capsule wardrobe. With time, the superstar has learned to curate his closet with timeless, high-quality items that he wears regularly and combines to match different styles and situations. Take for example the pair of Martine Rose Rooney jeans or the Amiri Bandana slip-on shoes that Jaehyun has been spotted wearing in several Instagram posts, concert rehearsals, and airport visits.

Despite mentioning that he is constantly looking for fashionable pieces and keeping up with the latest fashion collections, Jaehyun’s approach to fashion is rather sustainable. The embodiment of “less is more,” the singer’s philosophy consists of building several outfits with few items, reusing what he owns, and being absolutely true to his personal style.

THE BEAUTY

The Skincare: Key to Flawless Skin

Though Jaehyun has jokingly thanked genetics for the reason behind his great skin, he still understands the importance of skincare and maintaining some form of regime. The artist takes a much simpler approach to his skincare making sure to “stick to the basics” rather than a multi-step routine. During a daily vlog, the artist shared with fans his three-step routine, which included cleansing his face with water and applying skin toner and moisturizer. Once it was revealed the artist was using the Kiehl’s Calendula toner, the product gained much popularity.

The Makeup: A Natural Beauty

Jaehyun is an idol that opts for more minimal and clean looks when it comes to makeup. A lot of his looks tend to have one thing in common: enhancing his natural features. This approach grants him the chance to embrace and showcase his natural beauty.

However, despite favoring a more “no makeup” look, the idol has never shied away from experimenting with different styles. During award shows and performances, occasionally Jaehyun will sport a smokey eye paired with eyeliner on the waterline to add a bit of depth and sultriness to his look. For a brighter and fresh appearance, stylists usually select peachy or pink tones with gold glitter accents. Jaehyun’s eyes are usually the focal point for looks, leaving his base clear and lips coated in a bit of gloss or chapstick.

Onstage, Jaehyun’s makeup usually matches the concepts he is promoting with NCT. With his career spanning over six years, there are endless styles he has tackled but a fan favorite is the faux freckles and heavy blush makeup he donned for his 2017 SM Station release, “Try Again.” Jaehyun reprised a similar beauty look in 2022 for NCT’s Nature Republic promotions.

The Hair: 90’s Heartthrob

Over the course of his career, Jaehyun has tested out several styles and hair colors. While he simply rocks anything he tries, the singer has crafted his own signature hairdo from a plethora of outstanding hairstyles. With his hair slicked back and a few wisps of hair framing his face, Jaehyun’s unique take on the “comma” hairstyle has stood out from the trends currently popular among idols.

The versatile look — that can complement both casual and formal events — is reminiscent of the curtain bangs popularized back in the ‘90s and is the twist that gives Jaehyun the heartthrob look and charm. Fashionable but effortless, the slicked-back look with neatly styled bang pieces is Jaehyun’s go-to hairstyle. The NCT member has grown so comfortable with it that he even sported the look at the PRADA SS23 show in Milan.

The Fragrances: Warm and Alluring

Jaehyun has shared his favorite fragrances with fans during fan signs on multiple occasions — having his Jo Malone recommendations go viral. However, in an interview with MEN’s NON-NO, Jaehyun stated he doesn’t stick to just one scent, but rather bases it on the season. The NCT 127 member goes for more warm and musky scents, such as TOM FORD’s White Suede or F*cking Fabulous, for the wintertime. Meanwhile, in the summertime, Jaehyun takes a more floral route with his scents, recommending BYREDO’s Bal D’Afrique for the season.

As scents have become another form of self-expression, fragrances offer a little sense of who we are. In Jaehyun’s case, his fragrance choices attest to the warmth of his character. There’s a lot to be said about his tendency to favor musky scents because there is complexity behind musk notes. Although this can be said about all fragrances, musk fragrances are particularly mysterious. As their scents settle into the skin of every person differently, they have a unique, layered appeal. In a way, this complexity also resonates with Jaehyun and the many layers that make him the artist he is.

THE MUSIC

We don’t talk about aesthetics without mentioning music. Music, after all, evokes feelings and plays an important role in communicating who we are. If we go by his music preferences, for example, Jaehyun’s penchant for everything vintage is undeniable. From the artists he listens to, to the format he favors, the singer embraces all things retro. That includes a turntable, a vinyl collection, and a fondness for artists like D’Angelo, Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, Brandy, and Frank Ocean. Influenced by his dad, Jaehyun is also a fan of R&B and other of his favorite genres including jazz, soul, and pop from decades past.

Jaehyun’s appreciation for music with a slightly retro feeling also shows in his own singing and solo projects. In his most recent release under NCT LAB, “Forever Only,” Jaehyun paid homage to the ‘90s and early aughts with an R&B and pop-influenced track that absolutely melted fans’ hearts. To celebrate Jaehyun’s style dive deep into the singer’s aesthetics with a playlist curated with his music recommendations and songs selected by team EnVi to match his preferences.

In a Nutshell

Jaehyun’s core aesthetics not only reflect his personal taste but also provide a look into his overall persona. The character and confidence in his personal style, beauty choices, and music taste are an integral part of his artistry and have contributed to shaping the star he is today. And while evidently, Jaehyun is never one to shy away from showing the world what he is made of, he isn’t afraid to explore and learn new sides of himself either. With a style that has earned him global attention and plenty of bragging rights as an artist and style icon, Jaehyun is set to continue achieving new milestones and reaping success after success. As he continues on his journey we at EnVi cannot wait to see what is in store for the multitalented singer, actor, and fashion darling.

NCT member Mark Lee is known as K-pop’s ultimate all-rounder. From his pre-debut appearances on South Korea’s The Mickey Mouse Club to his anticipated solo debut in 2022, Mark has not only blossomed into a multifaceted, celebrated artist. All along, his taste in fashion has also evolved, building a sartorial approach that’s entirely his own.

In the first installment of our new series, “Core” — where EnVi breaks down the fashion and beauty of our favorite celebrities — we’ll dive deep into Mark Lee’s style.

The Core Aesthetics

There’s an ongoing debate in fashion about what ‘core’ truly encompasses and if over-utilizing the suffix has stripped it from its original meaning. However, ‘core’ is often used to describe a particular style aesthetic, or microtrend. From kidcore, to bikercore, the options are endless and there’s even an online encyclopedia dedicated to documenting the existing ‘cores’ and clothing aesthetics. That being said, how would we describe Mark’s aesthetics?

Mark’s style could easily land at the intersection between effortlessly cool and fashion connoisseur. Coincidentally, that also happens to be the intersection between normcore and the increasingly popular skatercore. Following the idea of “embracing the universal concept of normalcy,” the rapper often sports comfortable outfits. Plain jeans, oversized tees, and hats make the most appearances, creating go-to looks that embody everything normcore stands for—an unpretentious and casual attitude.

In the same spirit, Mark often opts for staples of skater style: hoodies, oversized T-shirts, baggy cargo pants, and a good pair of sneakers—all of them with a slight retro touch, of course. Some other examples include loose and practical clothing pieces like skate shorts, accented with tall socks, and flat-bottomed shoes.

The Color Palette

Keeping up with normcore aesthetics, Mark usually sports neutral colors—white, black, gray—earth tones, and different shades of blue. A scroll down his Instagram feed will suffice to notice the rapper’s fondness for muted palettes. Nevertheless, there are also the occasional pops of color—red in particular—that serve to highlight his outfits and add a touch of fun.

The Brands

Though at first glance Mark seems to keep a rather lowkey approach to dressing—think of his penchant for sportswear brands such as Adidas and Nike—upon further inspection, his closet is packed with an interesting repertoire that includes both mainstream and niche fashion brands. From legacy fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton and Dior to streetwear labels like Supreme, GOLF WANG, and Stüssy, Mark’s wardrobe is diverse and all-embracing. The superstar is also a well-informed style enthusiast who incorporates the likes of Amiri, Marni, Rick Owens, Raf Simons, and Kiko Kostadinov into his daily-life looks. Additionally, there are also notable pieces he repeatedly wears from brands like The North Face, Moncler, and Gallery Dept.

The Accessories

Most often, Mark’s style stays on the minimalistic side, but he does tend to dabble in accessorizing. Sometimes, he turns to hats to cover his head, often going for baseball caps and beanies—mostly black ones from a variety of brands ranging from Margiela to Buzz Rickson.

Crossbody bags and backpacks are also musts for Mark. Keeping all of his personal belongings safe, whilst keeping with his own laid-back style, he has recently favored items like Bottega Veneta’s Borso Backpack and System Home’s Hobo Bag. However, when talking about Mark it is impossible not to mention the famous JanSport backpack he has worn throughout his career and—he has said—carries sentimental value

And speaking of meaningful pieces, when it comes to jewelry, Mark occasionally sports a Juste un Clou ring from Cartier—a friendship token he shares with the members of NCT DREAM. Similarly, Mark also wears a silver bracelet from Dior’s collaboration with Peter Doig and a Multi ID Saint Laurent bracelet, both gifts from his NCT 127 bandmates Jaehyun and Doyoung

The Mindset

While Mark has found his own style flair, perhaps most important is his confidence and ability to pull off even the simplest looks. Though casual and understated, Mark does not miss out on the chance to add playful twists to his wardrobe. Take as an example the customized Crocs he adorned with references to NCT 127 and watermelon charms.

Undoubtedly at the core of Mark’s fashion is the idea of showing himself exactly as he is, without pretensions, but with a dash of humor and fashion mastery.

Makeup Moods

On a daily basis, Mark rarely wears makeup. However, when it comes to performances, public appearances, and other events, Mark usually appears in soft smokey eyes, curved brows, and contacts for added impact. The color palettes vary according to the stage and outfits but often fall into deep brows and dark liners that accentuate his eyes.

Happy Hair

Like most idols, Mark’s hairstyles change according to his schedule and the overall concept of his projects. Throughout the years, the singer, songwriter, and rapper has changed up his hairstyles and hair colors several times, from the bowl cut from his early fame days to his present-day mix of undone and polished. However, among his most prominent and recurrent hairstyles are rounded cuts and medium-length hair with a bit of texture. Off stage Mark either keeps his hair free or wears a variety of hats to cover his head.

Smooth Skin

While Mark has shown himself with incipient facial hair from time to time, the singer often carries a shaver with him and has even shared his shaving routine with fans. In addition to his grooming habits, Mark doesn’t shy away from pampering, using facemasks to help moisturize his skin. Previously bonding with fellow member Taeyong during SuperM promotions, Mark has indulged in facemasks and relaxation to keep his skin smooth.

Nice Nails

Though Mark usually keeps his nails au naturale, for one of Mark’s recent NCT Dream comebacks, “Glitch Mode”, Mark had his nails painted to match the styling of the project. The designs consisted of white, silver, and neon pink, with each finger having a different design. He excitedly showed fans his nails through behind-the-scenes YouTube content. The manicure followed other members’ own fun nail designs such as Johnny and Yuta, as well as Ten

Mark’s personal style, both fashion, and beauty, seems to encapsulate his laid-back and fun personality perfectly. Mark is deeply aware of who he is, what he likes, and what suits him best, which is reflected in his outfit and beauty choices. As he continues to develop as a seasoned performer, we anticipate more of his high-level artistry and style evolution.
