Shake off the chill of spring showers with this week’s hottest releases. We’ve got everything from healing hits to upbeat dance tracks that will take the gloom right out of you!

Kenshi Yonezu – “ さよーならまたいつか So long and you again!”

Spread your wings and soar with Japanese singer-songwriter, Kenshi Yonezu‘s latest digital single, “さよーならまたいつか!(Sayonara Mata Itsuka!).” The song serves as the opening theme song for NHK’s morning drama Wings for the Tiger. In this track, Yonezu’s clean reveratos voice takes center stage, delivering a calm yet poignant melody on an uplifting beat. The accompanying music video, reminiscent of the video for his song “Lemon,” adds a unique twist by playing in reverse, incorporating rewind/fast forward effects to symbolize the concept of time. Amidst the chaos of a retro diner, Yonezu remains nonchalant dressed boldly in red head to toe, creating a thought-provoking contrast between his serene singing and the bustling background. This captivating visual narrative captures the essence of the song, leaving viewers intrigued and immersed in its depth.

Tanner Adell – “Whiskey Blues

Country Pop Princess Tanner Adell returns with a new single “Whiskey Blues.” After a whirlwind few weeks for Adell on the heels of her “Blackbird” feature on Beyoncé’s landmark COWBOY CARTER album, she is having her moment. The feature, as well as general interest in current Black country artists, introduced her to a wider audience and boosted her streams. “Whiskey Blues” stays true to Adell’s musical identity, showcasing soulful country pop and clever lyricism alongside her clear vocals. The song details the lingering feelings for an ex, ranging from anger to longing which Adell expresses as a “bad case of the whiskey blues.” With a new, ever-growing fanbase of her ‘buckle bunnies,’ “Whiskey Blues” gives them a glimpse into what to expect from the star going forward.

BRIGHT – “Long Run”

Thai actor and singer Bright Vachirawit, most known professionally as BRIGHT, has returned to the music scene with his latest single, “Long Run.” Released under the multi-faceted star’s entertainment company, Cloud9 Entertainment, “Long Run” is a delicate alternative single tackling themes of introspection and hope. Described by BRIGHT to “keep you warm even in the coldest day,” the song exudes that exact warmth and comfort with its gentle drumbeat, watery guitars, and soft electronic effects. The track’s chorus features BRIGHT tenderly singing over layered chants of the song’s title — emphasizing the dreaminess the track holds. As we prepare for a summer that is bound to be filled with late-night drives or sunsets galore, BRIGHT’s “Long Run” is a contender to soundtrack the season.

Vicky Farewell – “Push It”

Indie-pop artist Vicky Farewell is gearing up for the release of her upcoming album, Give A Damn, which is slated for a May 10 release via Mac’s Record Label. As the record’s release date grows nearer, Farewell released the album’s lead single “Tern Me On.” But on April 8, Farewell gave listeners yet another peek into Give A Damn with her latest single, “Push It.” The hauntingly sweet synth-heavy track pairs well with Farewell’s wispy vocals as she expresses her frustration for an intimacy gone stagnant. She bluntly tells her lover, “If you want to do better, go for it.” Chock full of harmonies, Farewell’s vocals are the star of the show, drawing listeners in with her delicate swoon-worthy tone.

Perrie  – “Forget About Us”

You may know Perrie Edwards for her stellar vocals in the British girl group Little Mix. Although the trio is currently on hiatus for group activities, this time has allowed them to pursue their own solo endeavors. Leigh-Anne made her powerful solo debut last summer, and Perrie has rolled up just before this summer to shine. “Forget About Us” introduces the world to soloist Perrie — she’s fun, she’s sentimental, but most importantly her power lies within her undeniable vocal prowess. The single is a heartbreak recovery anthem rooted in nostalgia and wrapped up in a bright pop melody. Reflecting upon a love that didn’t work out, Perrie wishes her previous lover well and hopes they both can recognize the good times they shared. The lyrics written by Perrie herself, pop mogul Ed Sheeran, David Hodges, and Steven Solomon leave listeners with an overall hopeful feeling about the bittersweet reminiscence.

ONE N’ ONLY – “DOMINO”

Looking to shake off that springtime gloom? Tune into Japanese boy group ONE N’ ONLY’s bold and upbeat single, “DOMINO,” for a pre-summer pick-me-up that will have you dancing in no time! Members TETTA, REI, EIKU, HAYATO, KENSHIN, and NAOYA made their debut in 2018 with their self-branded unique genre of “JK-pop” — a distinctive style that blends both J-pop and K-pop. But their latest release has tapped into Latin elements, highlighting that the group is fully prepared to continue evolving sonically and take the world by storm. With its Latin-infused beats, catchy hook, fierce raps, and intriguing melody, “DOMINO” was made for one thing — to get listeners hyped up. The high-energy track will likely appeal to fans of experimental K-pop groups such as ATEEZ, NCT, and OMEGA X.

April showers bring May flowers, but a new month also brings a flood of new music! Team EnVi is wrapping up the first week of April with tracks covering reimagination, rebranding, and revitalization — just in time for a fresh spring bloom!

Peggy Gou – “1+1=11”

Famous for her quirky dance cuts, intriguing visuals, and global magnetism, Peggy Gou continues to forge her unique path in the electronic music sphere. Alongside the announcement of her debut album, I Hear You (out this June), the South Korean and Berlin-based DJ unveiled her single “1+1=11” on April 4. The instrumental track recalls ‘90s dream house with its inviting melody and vibrant drum pattern, expanding Gou’s nostalgic sound palette and setting the tone for the anticipated festival season lying ahead.

Accompanying the single and adding to its theme of togetherness is the music video, featuring Icelandic-Danish artist, and Gou’s friend, Olafur Eliasson. The latter dances inside a light installation at his studio in Berlin, moving across beams of multicolored light from different projectors and creating overlapping shadows and silhouettes. Eliasson’s interest in breakdancing as a teenager came to be defining to his work which plays with perception, movement and embodied experience. The artist also collaborated with Gou on the striking album cover where she is pictured wearing one of his pieces, as well as on the opening track where the DJ will be reciting a poem Eliasson wrote. I Hear You’s tracklist is set to feature massive hits such as last year’s(It Goes Like) Nanana” and the Lenny Kravitz duet “I Believe In Love Again.”

THE BOYZ – “Electric Energy (Reimagination)”

Following a record of spy-related hits — such as singles “The Stealer” and “WATCH IT” or B-side “Espionage” — THE BOYZ are onto their next sonic mission. Members Jacob and Kevin slid into action with their suave rendition of “Electric Energy” — originally performed by Ariana DeBose, Boy George, and Nile Rodgers as part of the original soundtrack for Argylle. Through the collaborative efforts of TITAN CONTENT, IST Entertainment, MARV, and PLATOON, THE BOYZ were able to add their touch to “Electric Energy” nearly two months after the film’s release. Argylle director Matthew Vaughn shared in a press release, “… I wanted to find a group to re-imagine [“Electric Energy”] for fans of a genre of music that my kids love. Once I was introduced to the phenomenon known as THE BOYZ I knew they would inject our track with an entirely different brand of ‘energy.’”

With visionary transformations, such as the group’s cover of VIXX’s “Shangri-La” for Road to Kingdom, it is no surprise that THE BOYZ spun a groovy disco track into a dramatic, orchestral ballad. Composer and record producer Lorne Balfe collaborated with music producer Stuart Price to add newfound cinematic depth to the track. Both Jacob and Kevin harnessed their distinctive vocal timbres to elevate the soul-stirring nature of “Electric Energy.” With an invigorating key change, THE BOYZ revitalized the track from top to bottom. Ever so grateful, Kevin explained, “It was such an honor to be a part of a project on such a wide scale. Jacob and I were very lucky to be able to work with talented and passionate people.” Agreeing with his fellow groupmate, Jacob shared, “It was an honor to be a part of this… We got to meet many great people, and they made the process very comfortable, so I am thankful. I hope that this ‘Electric Energy (Reimagination)’ will get lots of love as well!”

Arthur Nery – “Segundo, Siguro”

OPM (Original Pinoy Music) is on the rise, and one of the latest icons of the genre is Arthur Nery. Tapping into a more R&B vibe, Nery harnesses his vocals to draw listeners into his music. That very same sway has resulted in him landing multiple tracks on Apple Music’s Top 100: Philippines playlist. On March 23, Nery released his latest single “Segundo, Siguro” — and it is a marker of his continuous growth as an artist. Just two weeks after its release, “Segundo, Siguro” has already racked up over a million streams on Spotify and climbed to the No. 5 spot on Spotify’s Daily Top Artists Philippines chart.

The mellow instrumentals add a dreaminess to the song, but it is Nery’s vocal abilities that steal the show. Flexing his vocal prowess, the richness in his tone can be heard from his baritone register to falsetto riffs, and everything else in between. If you’re a fan of R&B-centric artists like NCT’s JAEHYUN or ZAYN, you’ll definitely want to tune into “Segundo, Siguro” and check out the rest of Arthur Nery’s hits.

Yokkorio – “Can You Fix It”

Coming-of-age lyricism meets the dreamy sound of bedroom pop in Taiwanese indie singer-songwriter Yokkorio’s latest single, “Can You Fix It.”  Liao Yuwen, known by her stage name Yokkorio, wears many hats as a rising independent artist. Having been the composer, arranger, and producer of her own tracks, her music is an introspective reflection of life. In a press release, Yokkorio explained, “Music has taken me to many places, and accompanied me through wounds and healing. It will continue to show me the marvelousness of life…”

“Can You Fix It” dives headfirst into the identity of being a daughter while attempting to navigate adulthood and pave her own future. Yokkorio’s delicate vocals complement the laid-back instrumental of the track, creating a lightweight ambiance in contrast to the heavy tone of the lyrics. She gently captures the overbearing delicacy of daughterhood as she confesses, “Don’t go too far / There’s a sadness to be shared / But what for / Be silent, be quiet / No, she can’t wake / Those not awake.”

GloRilla And Megan Thee Stallion – “Wanna Be”

American rappers GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion have teamed up to release a scorching new anthem just in time for hot girl summer. Sampling Soulja Boy’s “Pretty Boy Swag,” the track exudes confidence and empowerment with GloRilla’s bold verses and Megan’s electrifying presence. Set against a lively house party in the music video, the duo’s lyrics showcase themes of independence and self-assurance, culminating in a fierce declaration of dominance.

GloRilla commands attention as she kicks off the track with her distinctive cadence, confidently asserting her independence. She playfully juxtaposes her man’s professed faithfulness while she’s got a roster. Though, she confesses, “I used to simp so hard but them my old ways.” Soon after, Megan jumps in with unapologetic swagger as she proudly proclaims her status as the baddest. She addresses the envy directed towards her, saying that those who now hate her were once eager to be her friend. In true Megan fashion, she seamlessly references the anime Attack on Titan, to declare she’s not just conquering but leaving a memorable mark.

Fans can catch both rappers on the “Hot Girl Summer Tour” starting in May.

Dena and JOYCE 就以斯 – “dumb af”

On April 5, Taiwanese singer-songwriters Dena and JOYCE 就以斯 dropped their first collaborative single, “dumb af.” Featuring a handwritten font reminiscent of Dena’s recent track “on read,” the cover image for “dumb af” captures the artistic energy of the two musicians. Both JOYCE and Dena wear sunglasses, as they lie down in the middle of the road. Dena takes charge of the “cool” image, while JOYCE leans into a humorous side, her face caught in an expression that is equal parts surprise and derp face. “Dumb af” combines the heart-on-her-sleeve storytelling of Taipei-based Dena with the free-spirited style of Taichung-based JOYCE, making an easy-listening earworm we all need on our playlists.

The single’s official announcement came only a few days in advance to its release. Fans of the artists might have noticed something was up when Dena posted a reel of her walk/running through the Taichung High Speed Rail station at the beginning of April. Dena overlaid the video of her eventually hugging JOYCE with English and Chinese saying, “Pov: finally seeing my LD lover in three months.” Their simultaneously chill and energetic synergy comes through their new track. Opening with a light electric guitar line, Dena and JOYCE’s smooth vocals complement the other’s while pulling in listeners with the upbeat rhythm of “dumb af.” In the track, they sing in both English and Mandarin of a love that keeps flip flopping between the cold December and “a hot girl summer.” Dena’s voice sounds far away and hazy as she closes the song with a phone call, emphasizing, “Oh my god, I’m never falling in love ever again.”

Bang Yongguk – “MOVIMIENTO”

It’s been ten months since South Korean rapper-singer-songwriter Bang Yongguk released an EP, but on March 31, he made his much-anticipated return. 3 is the artist’s third mini-album, a project that had been in the making for a while. But it doubles as a gift to fans from the former B.A.P legend, as 3 was released on his very own birthday. In a press release, Bang Yongguk gratefully expressed, “I would like to first say thank you to all my fans who gave me a lot of inspiration when I started working on the new album… I worked on this album with great joy, and I hope you’re able to resonate with that emotion while listening to this album.”

Yongguk ensured the six-track EP would be a personal project through and through. From having lyric, composition, and arrangement credits on each song to challenging his artistry by exploring new genres, 3 captures Yongguk’s abilities unlike anything else. One of the title tracks for the EP is “MOVIMIENTO” —- a rhythmic electronic track featuring Spanish lyrics and sonic influences. In the music video for the single, Yongguk can be seen matching the energy of “MOVIMIENTO” with his exemplary dance skills. With a lively groove, “MOVIMIENTO” will get you moving in no time!

Annabel Gutherz – “Shame”

Canadian singer-songwriter Annabel Gutherz added a new single to her vibrant discography on Friday. “Shame” takes its musical roots from classical rock woven with pop sounds. For this new track, Gutherz — who graduated with a master’s degree from Berklee College of Music — collaborated with Mikal Blue (OneRepublic, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat) and Bret “Epic” Mazur (Crazy Town, Prince, The Black Eyed Peas).

In “Shame,” Gutherz holds a place for listeners to express their relationship insecurities. Backed by a loose guitar and the singer’s fluid vocals, the untethered instrumental quality adds to the story she tells. Gutherz digs deep into her emotions, as she wonders about her lover’s former lover and constantly compares this ex to herself. However, Gutherz is self-aware about these insecurities and calls it a “shame” that she’s spending so much time thinking about these pointless comparisons. Yet, she acknowledges that these insecurities exist, singing, “I can’t seem to let go of your past.” “Shame” is a testament to Gutherz’s power as a musician to create “timeless music that speaks to the soul of what it means to be human” and provide a place where listeners can “feel seen and understood.”

RiTchie – “WYTD?!?!”

RiTchie, the American rapper known for his work with hip-hop group Injury Reserve and duo By Storm, shows off his versatile talents on his latest single “WYTD?!?!” off his debut solo album, Triple Digits [112]. The song is a vibrant fusion of rap and punk elements, featuring thunderous percussion and explosive riffs that inject an undeniable energy into the track. RiTchie’s signature style shines through with his dynamic delivery and memorable hooks, making “WYTD?!?!” a standout highlight on the album.

Through urgent lyrics emphasizing the need to take action, “WYTD?!?!” dives into themes of decision-making and seizing opportunities. RiTchie’s verses are laced with imagery of the complexities of life, while highlighting the importance of being assertive when pursuing one’s goals. He highlights the message with humorous lines such as “Move like Kool-Aid and kick through the door.” The infectious energy of the song is epitomized by the repetitive hook, “So what you tryna do?” motivating others towards decisive action. ”WYTD?!?!” not only resonates with its relatable themes, but also further solidifies RiTchie’s position in the rap scene.

Chappell Roan – “Good Luck, Babe!”

Fresh off of a viral NPR Tiny Desk set where she performed cuts from her acclaimed debut, Chappell Roan offered us a taste of a new era with her single “Good Luck, Babe!” The Missouri native shook up the pop scene at the end of last summer with her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, solidifying herself as one of the most eccentric presences in the current landscape.

While known for her explosive, dance pop bangers and campy, tongue-in-cheek twists on classic country pockets, Roan opts for an anthemic, dream pop feel in “Good Luck, Babe!” On the latter, the singer’s vocal delivery channels the ethereal quality of contemporaries like Sarah Kinsley and icons like Kate Bush. “You’d have to stop the world just to stop the feeling,” she sings, wishing good luck to a love interest who is avoidant of her feelings for Roan — and likely for women altogether. Complete with a conversational bridge, crescendoing adlibs, and a delightfully retro-esque outro, the track raises anticipation for Roan’s next artistic steps, ahead of her headline tour which kicks off next month.

Zeina – “Hot”

Montreal-based singer Zeina has been honing her R&B proficiency since her emergence onto the scene in 2016. Through a variety of singles like old school “Talk Luv,” breakout “Give Me Time,” and the bold “NASTY” that marked the way from her first full-length project (2017’s Odd One Out) to 2024’s Eastend Confessions, the musician came to revolutionize her sound, perfecting the art of blending together elements from her Middle Eastern heritage with prominent Y2K influences. Eastend Confessions, released April 3, is Zeina’s mixtape: a series of tracks that communicate the artist’s identity, through storytelling which explores experiences fundamental to her personhood with insight into her cultural background.

Preceding inclusions like the most recently unveiled, explosive “Problematic” and buzzworthy “Hooked” — Zeina’s remake of Canadian singer Shawn Desman’s 2002 “Shook” — opener “Hot” clues listeners into the project without much ado. The steamy song features Arabic-inspired melody, woven into a nostalgic 2000s groove which is led by straightforward, suggestive themes. Zeina employs dynamic delivery alongside French lyrical touches to craft an undeniably passionate atmosphere right at the tracklist’s threshold.

Khalid – “Please Don’t Fall In Love With Me”

Khalid is reintroducing himself with soulful R&B single, “Please Don’t Fall In Love With Me,” marking a new chapter in his musical journey. With a nod to Alicia Keys’ timeless “Unthinkable (I’m Ready)” in the song’s intro, Khalid sets the stage for an introspective exploration of love’s complexities. Released alongside a mesmerizing visualizer, the track showcases Khalid’s signature smooth vocals gliding over a velvety melody, as he cautions a potential love interest against falling for him.

In a heartfelt plea, Khalid candidly confronts the uncertainties and burdens he carries from past heartbreaks. He offers a sincere warning of the challenges that may come with loving him through gut-wrenching verses and a resonant chorus where he repeatedly pleads, “So please don’t fall in love with me.” With lines such as “How can I move forward when every relationship I get in don’t hit the same if it ain’t you?” Khalid invites listeners to his vulnerable world where each note is drenched in raw honesty and unfiltered emotion.

Although March has begun to wind down, the music releases sure haven’t. From the coolest country chart-toppers to the newest rising rock tracks, Team EnVi has got it all for you in this week’s installment of Sunday Spin!

Vincent Blue – “Honesty (Pink Sweat$ Cover)”

Blue meets Pink as Korean R&B singer-songwriter Vincent Blue greets the spring season in his cover of American R&B artist Pink Sweat$‘s debut single “Honesty.” Paying homage to the original, Vincent shows his deep admiration and appreciation for the hit song as he presents a delicate rendition of the personal lyrical exchange. “Honesty” embodies the fear of falling in love and unease in becoming vulnerable with someone. Taking the form of a conversation, two lovers wishing to confirm their affections for one another are expressed in the soul-pop song. Combining his falsetto vocals and unique charisma alongside the original warm acoustic style, Vincent enhances the track’s sentimentalism which captivates listeners at first listen.

Maggie Rose – “Fake Flowers”

American soul and country artist Maggie Rose continued building anticipation for her upcoming studio album with her latest single “Fake Flowers.” Following the release of three other tracks, “Fake Flowers” also precedes the drop of No One Gets Out Alive, which will arrive on April 5. “Fake Flowers” digs deep into what happens when someone you love betrays you. Written by Rose and the notable duo Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony (who have written for heavy hitters including Rihanna, Bruno Mars, and Miley Cyrus), the emotional song is an outlet when “All the trust here is gone.”

An organ and electric guitars back Rose’s soulful yet powerful voice. “I don’t believe anything you say,” she reveals in the lyrics, adding with a little more fire with the line, “Keep your fake flowers.” In the final chorus, “Fake Flowers” builds to its emotional peak as the piano chords emphasize Rose’s message. “I let myself be angry. That was liberating. I wasn’t softening the edges of my feelings for anyone or worrying about how it would land,” Rose explained in a press release. After No One Gets Alive comes out on April 5, Rose will embark on a three-month tour in the U.S., with stops in Nashville, Virginia Beach, and Ohio.

Chloe Star – “Wasted Youth”

Last week, Persian, Indigenous, and queer musician Chloe Star released her newest single, “Wasted Youth.” Considered a “modern day rockstar,” the rising force of an artist easily proves this in her defiant track. You want a safe place to release all of your anger and frustration? Look no further than “Wasted Youth.” With lyrics such as “I had nobody I could call / And nowhere to escape“ backed by frantic electric guitars and a chanted chorus, “Wasted Youth” is the shot of energy you need on your playlist. In the hook, Star scream-sings, “What a f**ked up wasted youth,” encouraging listeners to join in.

As Star revealed in a TikTok video, “Wasted Youth” calls back to the time she spent at a wilderness retreat when she was 16 years old. However, that “wilderness retreat” was nothing short of being kidnapped. In the pictures Star showed, too, she is covered in red blotches and scars from the sheer amount of bug bites she had. The rising alt-pop singer-songwriter shared more thoughts about the inspiration for “Wasted Youth” in a press release: “This song is about my experience going through that program, but it’s also a song that brings light to the fact that if I hadn’t been sent there, I wouldn’t be where I am now,” she said. “Without it, I wouldn’t be able to share my story and open the door for others to share their stories.”

Kacey Musgraves – “Deeper Well”

Country’s sweetheart Kacey Musgraves has released yet another deep-cut of an album. Deeper Well is the sixth LP from the seven-time GRAMMY award-winner and has already become a notable feat in her career. Deeper Well has become Musgraves’ fifth record to debut at the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top Country Album chart and even debuted at the No. 2 spot on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The bittersweet title track, which shares the name of the LP, is about learning to leave behind what no longer serves you. Musgraves opens with her delicate vocals as she explains, “My Saturn has returned,” and lyrically, it could not be more accurate.

Saturn returns are not to be taken lightly in the astrology community — they are periods that tend to signify a massive transitional period in your life. So the opening line is fitting as Musgraves deep-dives into her past, her present, and her future. Over a strummy acoustic guitar melody, she bids farewell to all of the above as she sings, “No regrets, baby, I just think that maybe / It’s natural when things lose their shine.” As Musgraves embarks on a new chapter in her life, it is clear that listeners aren’t going to let go of the artist or her music any time soon. Fans can celebrate change with Kacey Musgraves on “The Deeper Well World Tour,” which kicks off on April 28 in Dublin, Ireland and closes on December 7 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Wooseok – “Navy Blue”

Following his departure from Cube Entertainment in late 2023, Pentagon’s Wooseok signed with UNDFND Entertainment and released his first solo single album, Empty Paper on February 24. The release marks the turning of a page while also serving as an ode to his past memories. Referencing Pentagon’s fandom color in the title song, “Navy Blue,” Wooseok expresses how deeply rooted the events of his past are: “Navy blue, my insides are like a deep, dark night.” Later on in the song, he also displays hesitation about starting a new path on his own as he sings, “I can’t move forward, new blue / The end may be short, but I hope you’ll be happy.”

In the music video for “Navy Blue,” Wooseok is seen alone in the expanse of the mountains with only a guitar to keep him company, likely representing how important music is in his life. Known as a main rapper, he showcased his seldom-heard vocals by singing, “I believe in the saying that a better tomorrow will come, just look up / (You’re) Holding back those eyes filled with sadness / Don’t make me laugh, cry / It’s not funny, just look up.” Through “Navy Blue,” Wooseok reminds listeners to reach for their dreams regardless of any inner conflict they may be facing.

Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus – “II MOST WANTED”

Iconic singer Beyoncé tapped into her Texas roots to release her highly-anticipated album COWBOY CARTER on Friday. The 27-track album contains some notable features, including Dolly Parton, Post Malone, and Willie Nelson. One of the most popular features of the album is Miley Cyrus in the track “II MOST WANTED.” Cyrus’ raspy tone matched with Beyonce’s smooth vocals adds a hint of edginess to the sweet guitar melody. They sing, “I’ll be your shotgun rider / ’Til the day I die / Smoke out the window flyin’ / Down the 405,” embodying the feelings of excitement and invincibility that comes with newfound love.

Sinéad Harnett – “Burn”

British singer-songwriter Sinéad Harnett returned with her intense track “Burn.” This release gave listeners another taste of her upcoming album called Boundaries, which is set to drop on April 26. With a slow piano and a melancholic tune, Harnett displays true vulnerability through her emotional lyrics. The song portrays her inner conflict to trust someone again after experiencing past heartbreak. “Don’t get too close to me / I can’t control the heat / I’m like the third degree / And baby you’ll burn,” she sings in the chorus, warning her lover to stay away before she hurts them. Harnett expressed her thoughts in an Instagram post, “It can be at our safest that we feel most exposed, and most scared. Because feeling safe isn’t familiar for so many of us.”

Nini Music, NiNi – “HUNG UP”

Taiwanese folk metal artist NiNi Music released her hardcore single “HUNG UP” on March 26. Adding a twist to an established rock subgenre, NiNi Music stands out by incorporating traditional Asian instruments into her music. “HUNG UP” is performed by her band NiNi, following the tale of an Asian folk legend about the ghost of a hanged victim and her journey to vindication. The lyrics contain a hopeful message within the dark tale as the band sings, “Don’t do this alone and cut yourself off / From every soul that needs you here … Nothing gets better if you disappear.” No longer restrained by the world, the ghost seeks peace and liberation in the afterlife.

Whether you’re feeling the warmth of a new love blossoming or the unexpected chill of spring showers, Team EnVi’s got the latest releases to ease you into the spring season. From bops that will add a spring in your step to cathartic ballads — we’ve got it all in this week’s Sunday Spin just for you!

Olivia Rodrigo – “so american”

Throughout her career thus far, Olivia Rodrigo has done everything from wearing her heart on her sleeve to serving it on a platter. But GUTS (spilled), the deluxe version of her sophomore record, is a fine balance between being vulnerable and daring. While the spunky pop star has explored themes of heartache and revenge before in hits like “vampire” or “get him back!,” GUTS (spilled) offers something much more hopeful within its five-track extension — young romance.

With a title like “so american,” you wouldn’t necessarily believe this B-side to be a love song — but that’s exactly what it is. This punk-influenced tune captures the full-force enthrallment of being smitten with someone. Rodrigo doesn’t shy away from her love interest as she admits, “Oh God, I’m gonna marry him / If he keeps this shit up / I might just be in lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-love.” Carrying the same free-spoken nature seen throughout GUTS (spilled), Rodrigo’s “so american” is playful and romantic in every sense.

Cupnoodle – “Bababababy”

Looking for a little pep in your step, or perhaps for your playlist, this week? Check out the latest single from German Thai indie singer-songwriter Cupnoodle! “Bababababy” is an infectious earworm inspired by modern-day romance and a playful nod to the nerves that accompany its earlier stages. Laden with funky guitar riffs and a disco-inspired beat, “Bababababy” is a groovy and heartwarming track that will have you wanting to dive headfirst into love.

Amid the flurry of emotions of blossoming attraction, Cupnoodle hopes that listeners can also find a bit of empowerment in the song. She explained in a press release, “Dig deeper into the song and you find that it is actually about a desire to break out of one’s comfort zone. Despite your uncertainties of approaching a person, you should just muster up your courage and shoot your shot. Only under pressure can we rise to the occasion.” Whether you’re looking for a track that captures your feelings, searching for one to encourage you, or just want to dance, “Bababababy” is an all-around hit.

Seori – “Fake Happy”

Seori reads back on an old diary full of memories from her latest mini album and single “Fake Happy.” The alt-pop artist comes back with a melancholic pop song reflective of one’s authenticity and fear of facing fake happiness as one runs towards their desires. The song reminiscences over the innocence found in past events while questioning their current discontent and navigation in life. Seori wistfully views the irony of life as she sings, “Always thought I’ve been dreaming / It’s like I know I lost innocence / How funny a life full of nonsense? / Why do I feel like fading? / Like crumpled notebook pages / I’m constantly running for something.” Just like the track’s essence, the music video is also rooted in bittersweet nostalgia, as glimpses of personal footage from Seori’s childhood capture her once carefree innocence. Flickering between the younger version of herself to who she is today, the “Fake Happy” music video is a visual representation of Seori’s yearning for what she has lost over the years.

Tyla – “ART”

There’s been a lot of talk about South African singer Tyla lately. If you tuned in to the 2024 GRAMMYs last month, you may have seen her accept her very first GRAMMY for her chart-topping hit “Water.” But on March 22, the rising star released her self-titled debut LP, TYLA. Along with the release of the record, Tyla uploaded a music video for the eloquently romantic track “ART” — and it’s everything you might expect from the title, and more.

Opening the song in a poised manner, Tyla beckons, “Ain’t this what you came to see? / Let me be your muse, I’ll inspire you / In ways you won’t believe.” Tapping into the Amapiano genre, “ART” has a smooth yet expressive tone. With lyrics focusing on becoming the apple of someone’s eye, it’s no surprise to see Tyla looking ethereal in the music video as she lounges on a chair while being painted by an artist. Almost like a siren, Tyla’s beauty lures a wandering man into the gallery — only for him to be met with the artist, who is also Tyla herself. “ART” is a heartfelt offering to a lover, but its music video also emphasizes the power of self-love — both important lessons for those navigating love all around.

THE BOYZ – “Nectar”

From a lighthearted summer rom-com to a mischievous heist, THE BOYZ have immersed fans into their world of PHANTASY. After releasing the first installment of the group’s second LP last summer, THE BOYZ finally brought their fantastical storytelling trilogy to a close with Pt.3 Love Letter. And what better way to wrap up this chapter of their careers than with a coming-of-age bop?

“Nectar” is bittersweet despite its name. Sonically, “Nectar” matches the sun flares, bursts of color, and nostalgic shots of the 11 members running around together in the track’s music video. With its twinkling synths and melodious nature, THE BOYZ capture the essence of young love at its finest as they chant, “I’m addicted / I’m addicted to you.” But lyrically, the track embraces that nothing lasts forever and to take a chance on the future, even if it may be uncertain. Listeners are broken out of the fantasy and faced with reality as stereo feedback interrupts the song briefly, matching the brief flashes of the members in despair as seen in the music video. THE BOYZ easily own the coming-of-age sound with “Nectar” — cementing that we all experience growing pains, but life will continue to be full of more to hope and dream of.

rhyu – “Quiet”

Rising Singaporean singer-songwriter Raine Hahn Yu, also known as rhyu, has released her latest single “Quiet” — a heartbreaking ode to unrequited love. The track is laced with delicate, plucky string instruments and a melancholic piano melody. Capturing the heartache of falling for someone unaware of your feelings for them, “Quiet” tells the tale of quietly loving them from the sidelines. With a deep, rich, and elegant vocal tone, rhyu stands out amongst the crowd with a one-of-a-kind timeless sound. Inspired by the memories she has been stowing away from the young age of four, rhyu hopes to bring those emotions to life with her music and bring her listeners comfort. Although this is just the beginning of her musical endeavors, with such introspective and heartfelt lyricism already, the future seems promising for rhyu.

DAY6 – “Welcome to the Show”

It has been nearly three years since South Korean rock band DAY6 released a project altogether, but that changed on March 18. After embarking on solo endeavors and completing their mandatory military service, Sungjin, Young K, Wonpil, and Dowoon returned with their eighth EP, Fourever. After so much time since the band’s last project together, it comes as no surprise that the title track of the mini-album is one full of endearing lyrics and the utmost sentiment.

“Welcome to the Show” is a love letter to the band’s devoted fanbase – My Day – who have patiently awaited the band’s return. DAY6 vow to their fans, “Still holding onto your hand / Even on the day the curtain comes down / So that we can say to each other / That I was happy because it was you.” Penned by the group’s very own bassist and vocalist, Young K, it’s hard to not be moved by the tenderhearted lyrics. His fellow bandmates Sungjin and Wonpil also were credited as composers alongside JYPE producer-songwriter Hong Jisang. Exuberant and uplifting, “Welcome to the Show” is a testament to DAY6’s growth over the years and a hopeful future ahead.

Paul Kim – “Little Star”

Intertwining music with storytelling, powerhouse vocalist Paul Kim returns with an emotional collaborative feature “Little Star.” Originally written and sung by K-indie acoustic musician Standing EGG, Paul Kim commemorates the re-release of the Japanese film The Last 10 Years with his cover release. The romantic drama film tells the story of twenty-year-old Matsuri Takabayashi, whose incurable disease leaves her with only ten years left to live. In response, Matsuri decides to avoid falling in love and not remain still in her life — that is, until she meets Kazuto Manabe at a school reunion and everything changes. Lined with the film’s sentimentality, “Little Star” illustrates the deep affection someone can hold while expressing their promise to protect their loved ones forevermore. Singing of their infatuation and loved one’s beauty, Paul’s unique light voice harmonizes with the song’s sensibility, invoking wistful affection for both the cinematic piece and ballad cover.

girl in red feat. Sabrina Carpenter – “You Need Me Now?”

Some collaborations are just too good — and the one between alternative songstress, girl in red, and pop princess, Sabrina Carpenter, is one for the books. Marie Ulven, best known by her moniker “girl in red,” is gearing up for her anticipated sophomore LP, I’M DOING IT AGAIN BABY!, which is set to be released on April 12. “You Need Me Now?” is the third single from the record and is full of the unabashed candor that can be found throughout much of Ulven’s discography.

Driven by gritty guitars and a fast-paced drumbeat, “You Need Me Now?” channels anthemic alt-rock. Wielding words as sharp as knives, the duo come together to put a toxic lover in their place. Ulven spits out, “You made heartbreak look elegant / Abused me with intelligence / I could have sworn you were heaven sent / You’ll always be a setback.” Carpenter taps into the track after being called upon by Ulven, like a tag team fight, and matches her energy to a T. Without missing a beat, Carpenter sings, “I’m sick of your schemes / And you’re such a disease / I know, I’ve heard it before / I’m never beggin’ for love again, baby.” Together the pair come out triumphant after cutting off their exes for good.

Adrianne Lenker – “Free Treasure”

A little less than four years after 2020’s lauded songs, folk singer-songwriter Adrianne Lenker returned with her sixth solo record Bright Future. The Big Thief frontwoman, known for her prolific yet inexhaustibly potent songwriting, recorded the entirety of the album straight to tape, in the company of friends and musicians Phil Weinrobe, Josefin Runsteen, Nick Hakim, and Mat Davidson. “Headphoneless and heart-forward” as she describes it, the analog recording process is reflected in the disarming intimacy that shines through Bright Future’s 12-piece tracklist. From vulnerable moments delving into poignant family recollections like opener “Real House,” to crescendos depicting turbulent relationship dynamics like the solo rendition of Big Thief’s fan favorite “Vampire Empire,” or lead single and closer “Ruined,” Lenker’s signature heart-on-sleeve and simultaneously craft-minded approach to lyricism and her intricate sense of melody and rhythm become threads that weave together profound ruminations on love and memory.

“Free Treasure,” the fourth single in line to the album release, stands out as one of the project’s most optimistic peaks, where Lenker muses on the unconditional, loving feelings generously offered to her by a dear figure in her life, even when she “tries too hard” or “trips up.” “Just when I thought I couldn’t feel more, I feel a little more,” she sings tenderly over delicate guitars, accompanied by Davidson on vocal harmonies.

Quiet Light – “Fresca”

This week’s New Music Friday saw the release of Riya Mahesh’s (known by her creative moniker Quiet Light) latest single, “Fresca.” The fresh track arrives as the 23-year-old electronic folk artist is gearing up for an upcoming EP. Swiftly put together with the help of her friend and collaborator Nico Fennell, “Fresca” flows along soft waves of soaring and retreating synths, hypnotic percussion, and touches of elegant cello. It is a song about letting go, Mahesh tentatively stated on Instagram upon release. “I was and still am really obsessed [with] this idea of surrendering control of your life and giving into the sort of oceanic feeling that comes with being in love,” she wrote. Her lyrics move between abstract observations, memories, and interactions in conversational verses, circling back to the effortless hook of “When you wanna go, I’ll go / When you wanna swim, I’ll swim / When you wanna dive, I’ll dive / When you wanna give, I’ll give,” in an expression of utterly renouncing control in the face of limerence.

Max Aidan, Reggi Condos – “Why U Texting?”

As March slowly comes to an end, Multifaceted Taiwanese-American pop R&B singer Max Aidan and rap artist Reggi Condos wrap it up with their heartbreaking collaborative single “Why U Texting?” Alternating from his previous innocent take on love from his 2023 single “Is it Love?” Max exhibits a new side of love as he expresses the internal conflict and negative repercussions caused by mixed signals, false hope, and manipulative actions. Depicting the emotional turmoil through the bittersweet lyrics, Max sings, “Why you texting when you know I’m broken / Shattered by those words you spoken / Civil war inside my mind it’s aching / Should I stay or am I mistaken.” Using his poignant vocals, Max Aidan combines this emotive pop song with modern relatability in love, evoking sorrow, rage, and sentiment from all who listen and connect.

PURPLE KISS – “BBB”

Just over three years into their career, RBW Entertainment’s girl group PURPLE KISS continue to leave listeners wondering what genre they’ll explore next. On March 19, just after the third anniversary of their debut, the six-member group returned with their latest EP, BXX. Embracing a more hip sound, in contrast to delicately haunting tunes or electronic-heavy hard-hitters, PURPLE KISS ushers in their girl crush era mixed with a hint of rebellion. “BBB” — an acronym for “Bad B Behavior” —  is a pop track full of bright synths and a hip-hop-influenced beat. While the track offers a buoyant and catchy melody, lyrically, the ladies entice listeners to indulge in their wild side. They encouragely sing, “Say what you want / Better to be bad than to be hurt / … Try a bad behavior, bad behavior.” With an unapologetically confident bop like “BBB,” it feels good to be a bit bad sometimes!

Another Sunday, another set of new songs that Team EnVi has wrapped up in a playlist just for you! We may be halfway through March already, but time sure flies when so many hits are released each week. From self-love anthems to lovesick confessionals, we’ve got it all here for you in this week’s installment of Sunday Spin.

ZAYN – “What I Am”

ZAYN is no stranger to pouring his heart out in his music, but if his latest single is any indicator of what we can expect next from the soloist, it may be his most personal record yet. “What I Am” is the first single off of his upcoming LP, ROOM UNDER THE STAIRS, which is set to be released on May 17. Described by ZAYN in a handwritten note, ROOM UNDER THE STAIRS is “…a special project [he has] been working on for years.” With ZAYN being credited as the sole lyricist on “What I Am,” it is no surprise that this next record will have a personal touch to it.

Fans of ZAYN may have been caught off guard by the new sound embraced by the vocalist, but the folk genre accentuates his vocal color and ability to capture emotions quite well. (Hey there Directioners! Did you also feel nostalgic when listening to “What I Am” and think back to ZAYN’s vocals in the folk-influenced tracks off of Midnight Memories like “Through The Dark” and “Happily?”). Baring his heart to a lover, he begs, “Take me as I am / I’m tired of dancin’ around the point / Sharp and it is jagged / Like the shape of glass and it steals my voice.” Lyrically, “What I Am” may be one of ZAYN’s most vulnerable tracks of his career thus far and is a promising beginning to this new chapter.

INJI – “HATE YOUR GUTS”

“Making music you can scream along to” reads the Spotify bio of EDM newcomer INJI. Hailing from Türkiye, the Philly-based singer-songwriter was first met with TikTok virality after posting a demo of her single “GASLIGHT” on the platform. The hip house track was packed with tongue-in-cheek, fantastical storytelling about getting revenge on a misbehaved ex, its snarky tone and raw humor resonating with online audiences. Since 2022, INJI has been establishing herself as a rising star in the EDM scene, most recently achieving wide acclaim with her single “BELLYDANCING.” The latter blends Middle Eastern rhythms tied to her Turkish heritage with traditional Mexican music, into dance brilliance characterized by undeniable catchiness and global appeal.

“BELLYDANCING” is now followed up by INJI’s latest, “HATE YOUR GUTS,” which was released on March 15. The fresh track — extensively teased by the singer prior to the drop — retains her signature, endearing candor across situationship-motivated themes. “HATE YOUR GUTS” channels most of its energy into a grand, chant-chorus which features the titular line alongside “I’m telling everybody ‘This guy sucks!’ / And by the way, he’s into real weird stuff!” Shouted on top of prominent synth bass and a melody infused with pop sensibility, the infectious hook is fit for the sweatiest of dancefloors. INJI’s unapologetically funny lyricism and conversational cadence recall club bathroom girl talk, setting up her songs to become spot-on soundtracks to lived-in memories, and the juiciest gossip sessions against party backdrops.

WENDY – “Wish You Hell”

Reinventing yourself has never been more fun — or at least that’s how WENDY makes it seem with “Wish You Hell.” Bidding farewell to the stereotypical “good girl” image that was placed upon her, she emerges anew from the flames she used to destroy her past self. In contrast with her first solo EP, Like Water, WENDY’s second mini-album Wish You Hell is an outspoken letter about being true to oneself — along with some unexpected sonic twists from the vocalist.

Veering away from soulful ballads, “Wish You Hell” opens with wavering electric guitars before slipping into a rhythmic bassline with bright synths. Catharsis looks different for everyone, but for WENDY, it has taken shape as a poppy self-love anthem bubbling with confidence. Unafraid of bursting anyone’s bubble, she sings to her past self, “I can do anything I want, anything / I found myself, number one / I wish you hell.” WENDY reminds listeners it’s never too late to embrace your true self with this empowering pop track.

Ricky Montgomery – “Unknown Phantom”

Grab some headphones and listen to the latest single by acclaimed alt-pop artist Ricky Montgomery with your eyes closed. Trust us, we swear it’ll be worth it… And voila! It’s as if you’ve been transported to a hazy Halloween house party — well, that is what “Unknown Phantom” is all about actually. After being scared in the studio by his producer’s stepson (who was wearing a spooky costume on Halloween), nostalgia overtook Montgomery, and the result? A dreamy recollection of Halloweens past wrapped up in a faintly distorted alternative rock track reminiscent of the nineties.

In a press release, Montgomery reflected upon the surprise-turned-inspiration and said, “… It got us thinking about Halloween parties we had gone to as kids, and our early crushes and childhood memories in general. It all came together in just a few hours, and was instantly one of my favorite songs I’ve ever worked on.” With its imaginative lyrics, “Unknown Phantom” brings the feeling of experiencing coming-of-age moments right to the listener.

V – “FRI(END)S”

V of BTS is onto his next solo endeavor — a pre-recorded single titled “FRI(END)S,” which he prepared for fans in advance before serving in the South Korean military. Following the release of his first solo record, Layover, comes a bittersweet hit that tackles the blurred lines between friends and lovers. “FRI(END)S” remains true to the classic and soulful sound that many have come to associate with V. The R&B influence only amplifies his vocals, truly capturing the emotional strain of falling for a friend when you probably shouldn’t have. Despite all the reasons he fell for his friend in the first place, V rationalizes with himself in the chorus that he should call it quits and save himself from any more pain. He explicitly tells his friend-who-isn’t-just-a-friend, “Yeah, but friends don’t say words that / Make friends feel like more than just / Friends, just for now / Now, I’m over pretending / So let’s put the ‘end’ in friends.”

Lizzy McAlpine – “I Guess”

Rising indie pop sensation Lizzy McAlpine has released the second single off of her upcoming LP, Older, which is set to be released on April 5. “I Guess” is an introspective folk-influenced track with a gentle rhythm that gradually swells as McAlpine ponders life, romance, and the uncertainty of it all. She realizes, “I guess it’s all about timing / I guess it’s all about the things you want but never get / I guess it’s all about trying / To love someone you’ve never met.” Despite the singer coming to terms with the fact that connections and life are not nearly as romantic or simple as they are painted to be, the track wraps up with a romantic instrumental outro. Perhaps “I Guess” is an enigma in itself, but Lizzy McAlpine won’t be stopped from romanticizing her journey and growth as a person — a story worth being told.

vaultboy feat. salem ilese – “closer”

On March 15, vaultboy teamed up with salem ilese for their new single “closer.” Coming two months ahead of vaultboy’s debut album, “closer” tackles the uncertainty that comes with new romantic relationships. It’s a “delicate dance” — that’s equal parts “exciting and excruciating,” salem ilese said in a press release — between friendship and a romantic relationship. With lyrics such as “Is this the end, or a start of a new story? / In this blissful purgatory / God, it’s hell not knowing what you think,” vaultboy and salem ilese establish themselves as the go-to musicians for brutally honest, vulnerable, and highly relatable songs. Like the no frills openness in vaultboy’s “everything sucks” and salem ilese’s “Mad at Disney,” “closer” comes from a personal place. Vaultboy mentioned in a press release, “Salem and I wrote this song from personal experiences in each of our lives and so we hope people can relate to our stories.”

The last time vaultboy and salem ilese collaborated was for “don’t shop when ur hungry!!,” from salem ilese’s 2023 album, High Concept. This time, their joint single comes before vaultboy’s just-announced debut album, titled everything and nothing (May 10). Three other singles from the project have been released already, including “everything hits me at once,” “everything, everywhere (feat. eaJ),” and “where tf have you been?” Following the drop of everything and nothing on May 10, vaultboy will embark on his global tour, with stops in Europe, Australia, and Asia. His tour will kick off in London and May 14 and conclude in Singapore on June 14.

Wisp – “Enough for you”

Following a series of unexpectedly viral TikToks, San Francisco artist Wisp unveiled her debut single in early 2023 to an enthusiastic audience already counting hundreds of thousands. Almost instantly, “Your face” had captivated Gen Z listeners, its official sound snippet going on to star in countless videos on the aforementioned app, and accumulate millions of Spotify streams soon after. That overnight success became the incentive that landed the 19-year-old a deal with Interscope before a second song was even released, simultaneously propelling her to the forefront of the online shoegaze revival wave of the 2020s.

“Enough for you,” released on March 15, marks the rising musician’s fifth single. In one of her catalog’s most abrasive moments to date, Wisp, alongside producer grayskies, draws inspiration from the metal sphere to craft an immersive soundscape reminiscent of the likes of Deftones. Customarily, the harsh guitars and pronounced feedback are juxtaposed against the singer’s delicate, close to indiscernible vocals peeking through the wall of sound — here, expressing insecurity in one-sided affection, through lyrics like “Why can’t you need me? / Need me like I need you.” On release day, Wisp took to TikTok to communicate the message to fans with the dedication: “For all my loves who feel unworthy (but you are enough!!).” “This one comes from a personal place and I hope you guys can relate and feel understood,” she wrote. Wisp will be headlining several stops across North America on her tour starting April 19.

So turn on EnVi’s Sunday Spin playlist and take whatever type of energy you need for this upcoming week — we’ve got this.

PP Krit – “เสนอตัว (Ooh!)”

Roughly six months after the release of his previous single “Rerun,” Thai multi-hyphenate PP Krit is back. Right on the heels of an exciting Paris Fashion Week appearance and a win for Best Male Artist at the Line Melody Awards, PP Krit is starting the year off right. Shifting directions from the more sentimental and bittersweet release last year, “เสนอตัว (Ooh!)” is an upbeat hyperpop track with spicy lyrics. PP Krit’s sweet, seductive vocals take on a bit of an edge with a full rap verse and pre-chorus and throughout the song, he expresses to the object of his affection that he’s presenting himself so the other can make the first move.

Always unapologetically himself, the music video is full of bold fashion statements, a common occurrence for the Balenciaga global brand ambassador. Also known for consistently having a hot male lead starring opposite of him in his videos, “เสนอตัว (Ooh!)” stars model Eaton Sasiprapha, the youngest son of famed actress Mew Lalita Panyopas.

Vicky Farewell – “Tern Me On”

Just ahead of the release of her new album, Vicky Farewell has released single “Tern Me On. Vicky — an indie pop artist hailing from Orange County, California is set to release Give A Damn this May. Featuring an FM electric piano reminiscent of the late 90s, “Tern Me On” is a fun, nostalgic track. The song offers a heartfelt insight into a star-crossed casual relationship fueled by love and lust. “I don’t want it to end in this way / why don’t you decide and let me know / cause you turn me on.” Vicky’s soft vocals capture the essence of the relationship teetering on the edge, expressing vulnerability and desire. The music video was shot in the same style as videos from the late 80s/early 90s were. It shows Vicky, newly married in her wedding dress, chasing her groom around an office building until she eventually ends him, walking away with only a jar of his hair.

FLO – “Walk like this”

“Walk Like This” is the long-awaited comeback track from British girl group trio, FLO. Since bursting on the scene in 2022 with their debut single “Cardboard Box,” FLO has collaborated with iconic artists like Missy Elliott and Stormzy, performed at Glastonbury and Wembley Stadium, and even won a BRIT award for Brit Rising Star. Now, nearly a year after their second EP was released, Stella, Jorja, and Renée have returned with a new single and a brand new attitude.

“Walk Like This” is a confident, self-assured R&B anthem saturated with FLO’s signature three-part harmony. The song is reminiscent of Ariana Grande’s “Side to Side” in lyrical content, the members are bragging about their love and his ability to get them sprung. “Been here so long / What’s my address? / It’s an addiction / And it’s a habit.” is sung by Renée in the first verse. In addition to the catchy chorus, the bridge is the highlight of the song as they harmonize together softly before jumping into the final chorus. If this is the first taste of what FLO has to offer this year then we can’t wait to see what comes next.

elijah woods – “losing a friend”

On March 8, elijah woods — the Toronto-based singer-songwriter behind the viral love song “24/7, 365” — released his newest single, “losing a friend.” Not many people talk about how painful it is to lose a friend, but elijah gets it. He knows what it’s like, and he pours a hurricane of emotions into “losing a friend.” In his new track, the multi-faceted artist leaves his heart out in the open, softly singing a haunting question, “Is this the end? Is it over?” On Instagram, too, elijah shared the honest feelings that inspired “losing a friend,” as he wrote in a caption: “this is for one person only. you broke my heart.”

The raw pain in “losing a friend” is crystal clear. What starts out as a piano ballad slowly builds up to the devastating rock-inspired outro. Steady drum beats and the all-encompassing instrumentals accompany elijah’s last belted note. In that single note, he releases his confusion and sadness, reflecting how “losing a friend” was “written at one of the loneliest places of [his] life.” But as elijah mentioned in his Instagram caption, he now is “surrounded” by people who love him, like his fans from all over the world. In two months, he will embark on his first Asia tour with stops in Singapore, Manila, Tokyo, Taipei, and more. We can’t wait to see the reactions when elijah performs “losing a friend” live.

jessia – “care about me”

JUNO-nominated Canadian singer-songwriter JESSIA has something to say in her latest track, “Care About Me.” In this Friday-released song, JESSIA sings of becoming painfully aware that your significant other isn’t showing up for you or your relationship. In fact, “Care About Me” shines a spotlight on the glaring but heartbreaking truth: that person isn’t even seeing you.

As the “I’m Not Pretty” singer shared in a press release, “I was terrified to tease [“Care About Me”], but as soon as I did, my video comments were flooded with people sharing their stories of feeling unseen or alone in relationships, and other commenters empowering the brokenhearted.” “Care About Me” has become a “safe space” for herself and for her listeners.

JESSIA brings her stirring vocals to her new pop ballad. An echo-y environment draws listeners into “Care About Me,” while the track enters the impactful hook with the strumming of a full guitar. The vulnerable lyrics hit home as JESSIA sings, “‘cause you don’t even care about me / it’s obvious but I’m still crawling back on my knees.” She closes the chorus with another truth no one wants to confront: “I don’t know how to not treat myself like sh*t.”

ELYANNA – “OLIVE BRANCH (Ghosn Zeytoun)”

Formidable Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna is back. On March 6, she finally released her viral track “Olive Branch (Ghosn Zeytoun)” on all streaming platforms. Initially only available on YouTube, Elyanna revealed to the world the sorrow she carries for her home and for her people. Although barely a minute-and-a-half and just eight lines long, Elyanna’s clear and piercing vocals in “Olive Branch” express the depths of her mourning. Regardless of whether listeners understand Arabic or not, the strength of Elyanna’s voice and soaring strings always make goosebumps appear. Written by Elyanna alongside Feras Marjieh and Abeer Marjieh, the trio keeps “Olive Branch” short-and-sweet, yet devastating too, ending with the final lyrics: “In the land of peace, peace is dead / And the world is sleeping on a hurt child.”

Griff – “Miss Me Too”

At the end of February, Chinese-Jamaican singer-songwriter — and self-taught producer — Griff released “Miss Me Too.” This new single comes almost three months after she dropped her most recent EP, titled vert1go vol. 1. With her signature smooth alto vocals, the BRITs Rising Star winner shares the anthemic “Miss Me Too” with the world. When Griff teased the track on her social media ahead of its release, she featured camcorder clips of baby Griff playing over the hook of “Miss Me Too.” In the song, Griff “wonder[s] where the version of yourself went that once had faith in the world and love,” as she stated in the press release

“Miss Me Too” truly is an anthem dedicated to growing up but missing simpler, wide-eyed days. Griff takes the cathartic nature of her latest track and expands on it in the “Miss Me Too” music video. For the artist, that meant gathering 26 others to dance with her in a warehouse space. Griff and her accompanying dancers all wear pastel colors and free-flowing skirts, with the singer donning a pink gradient outfit. Together, they let out a singular, cathartic scream following the hook: “Now, I miss talking to the bathroom floor / I miss staring at the ceiling ‘cause it felt so tall / I miss sleeping to the sound of the kids next door, I do / I miss me, I miss me too.” As Griff and the 26 other dancers move freely, they underscore the most important part of “Miss Me Too.” Although we all grow older eventually, it’s always a little less lonely when we surround ourselves with our communities.

Speedrun – “Daydream Delusion”

Meet Speedrun — a.k.a. Nina Lüders — New York’s very own indie chic daydream. After garnering attention by sharing her musical talents on TikTok, Speedrun finally released her debut EP Love’s Latest News on February 24. Described by Lüders in a press release as “a love letter to 2000s indie rock,” the record wields the niche genre and contemplative lyrics to explore the medieval concepts of courtly love and their presence in the modern world.

“Daydream Delusion” channels the sound of nostalgic garage rock while also being a direct nod to David Jewell’s poem, “Delusion Angel,” which was featured in the 1995 romantic drama Before Sunrise. Speedrun’s jazz-influenced vocals offer a fresh and full tone that matches the gutsy candor of the track’s lyrics. “Daydream Delusion” mirrors unabridged poetry with its direct nature, making it a song for the hopeless romantics.

Maggie Lindemann – “rip my heart out”

Entering a new chapter of her career, Maggie Lindemann has returned to the music scene with her latest EP, HEADSPLIT. After performing across the world on her headlining “SUCKERPUNCH WORLD TOUR,” Lindemann is back with an unapologetic attitude on this eight-track project. Exploring topics such as mental health to wearing her own heart on her sleeve, HEADSPLIT is a genuine reflection of Lindemann and her experiences.

“Rip my heart out” is the opening track on the EP and eases listeners into the general ambiance of HEADSPLIT. Beginning with a more stripped-down sound that focuses on Lindemann’s vocals, “rip my heart out” quickly bursts to life with its flourishing guitar riffs and fierce drumbeat. Offering her lover everything within her power, Lindemann vows, “You’re the blood that flows through my veins / Be the shield that takes all your pain / Rip out my heart / To give you life.” Despite its gritty nature, Lindemann delivers an emotionally raw piece with “rip my heart out.”

Nina Nesbitt – “Pages”

Scottish singer-songwriter-producer Nina Nesbitt has released two brand new singles to celebrate the launch of her independent record label. Founded with her manager, Vicky Dowdall, the two have come together to create a record label that focuses on giving all songwriters rights to their masters, along with a creative environment in which they can thrive. The label’s name is also a nod to Nesbitt’s independent 2012 EP, The Apple Tree
To commemorate Nesbitt’s latest endeavors, “Pages” is a heartwrenchingly honest ode to growing up. She confesses, “I’m a master at commitment / I’m a novice at letting go / And all the songs played on my car rides / Know me better than my ghosts.” The folk-influenced track makes way for Nesbitt’s impassioned vocals and one-of-a-kind vocal color. “Pages” is a reminder that we will always experience growing pains — but that’s the real beauty of life, isn’t it?

Hunter Blaire Ambrose – “NEXT TO ME”

Pop singer-songwriter Hunter Blaire Ambrose is enchanting us all with her vocals in “NEXT TO ME.” The Indiana-born artist made a name for herself with her signature blend of pop and R&B influences, taking inspiration from pop icons like Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, and Janet Jackson. Under the mentorship of Grammy Award-winning pop producer and songwriter Narada Michael Walden, Ambrose began her music career at the age of 17.  After the success of her debut album “Scorpio Season” (2021), she is back with her new single “NEXT TO ME.”  Released on March 8, the mid-tempo synth-pop single features Ambrose’s magnetic falsettos and vast range. The song breaks into a catchy chorus where Ambrose sings, “If you just knew how good it could be/ Stop playing games/ Start f**king with me.”  A confession of love and devotion, ” NEXT TO ME” is equal parts banger and ballad to add to your playlist.

Dena – “on read”

On February 27, Taiwanese singer-songwriter and YouTuber Dena released her new single “on read.” Her first single since being signed to Warner Music Taiwan, Dena’s “on read” ripples with a heartache that has not yet healed. Minimal production and a simple guitar line allow Dena’s gentle voice to shine, even as she desperately sings, “can I not go through it all again / don’t wanna leave my heart open and on read.” In her Instagram caption celebrating the release, Dena dedicates “on read” to those who have experienced the rollercoaster of emotions that come with a (sort-of-but-not-really) heartbreak. Her latest track is “like the diary you never knew you needed for your heart to heal from all of the confusion love brings,” she wrote. The relatable singer-songwriter also reached out with a virtual hug and comforting words, saying, “hang in there guys, Dena’s got chu.”

ATLAS – I Got That Magic

T-Pop boyband ATLAS is back with their latest single, “I Got That Magic.” Just a few months after the release of their second studio album, Mangosteen, members Erwin, Muon, Poom, Nice, Jet, Junior, and Tad have returned with a new digital single to keep their fans — called ALIAS — excited. “I Got That Magic” is a hip-hop song tinged with pop elements produced by Benlussboy, one-half of the production duo Luss. The song is a braggadocious track, with lyrics meant to set ATLAS apart from others when it comes to getting the attention of someone they’re interested in. “Girl, you know I bring the energy,” and “I can be the one for you, making everything you wish come true,” are exclaimed by the members throughout the song. The production makes the song even more interesting, mixing different sounds and elements. During parts of the song, there’s a more rock undercurrent, while during the chorus the beat gives off a dubstep vibe, making the song as unique and flavorful as the seven members of the group.

TAEYONG  – “Moon Tour”

Following the success of his debut solo album SHALALA, K-pop star TAEYONG is back with his sophomore album TAP. The album features a variety of tracks, spanning from cheeky raps to emotional ballads, serving as a testament to TAEYONG’s versatility as both a rapper and vocalist. One standout track on the album is the alternative R&B tune “Moon Tour.” Throughout the track, TAEYONG draws parallels between his love for a partner and the concept of touring the moon, likening their relationship to a journey throughout the cosmos. Backed by dreamy synths, TAEYONG croons about his unwavering love, even in the face of inevitable separation: “Even if this tour is over / I’ll still love you to the moon and back / Like eternal starlight.”

Throughout the song, TAEYONG’s raw emotions shine through as he expresses the depths of his affection. He passionately belts, “The melody of my heart beats for you / Oh, you are a beautiful star.” The multi-hyphenate continues to captivate listeners with his resonant storytelling and heartfelt vocals, solidifying his place in the K-pop scene.

RiTchie, Aminé – “Dizzy”

American rapper RiTchie, formerly of the hip-hop group Injury Reserve and current member of the duo By Storm, has teamed up with fellow rapper Aminé on the catchy rap song “Dizzy.” The song serves as the second single from Ritchie’s upcoming solo debut album, Triple Digits [112], set to be released on April 5. In the head-bop-inducing track, the duo delivers witty verses critiquing those who prioritize materialism over everything else. In the first verse, Ritchie criticizes the selfish behavior of someone considering their own wants over their loved ones’ needs: “If you would stick your neck out for anything / Why don’t you get your girl a little diamond ring? / And maybe buy your kids all some new clothes / ‘Cause you be staying fresh, but they got holes.”

Aminé adds his signature humor and deadpan delivery to the mix, calling out absurd behavior with the lines, “Look, you the type to link-and-build at a urinal (True) / Your granny died, and you taking fit pics at the funeral.” Together, the dynamic duo questions the source of the person’s lavish lifestyle, pointing out his lack of a job and realizing that it must be because of rich parents.

With the release of “Dizzy,” it seems Triple Digits [112] may be on track to be the best album of the year.

Hans., Meaningful Stone – “Grandmother Is Waiting For Me”

Part of 88Rising’s Rookies of 2022 and first known for his collaboration, “Froyo,” with bedroom pop star Clairo, New Zealand-Korean artist and producer Hans. teamed up with Korean indie singer Meaningful Stone for a touching song. Released on Feb. 27, the music video was shot in Hans.’s grandmother’s home in Korea and was inspired by every time he had to say goodbye to her, knowing that their time together is limited.

The pair originally connected through the photographer Abi Raymaker, who also snapped art for the single. Dreamy and spacey, the song is a sentimental ode to the mundane but precious moments that we share with our aging family members. Hans.’s laid back rap style which is just barely intelligible is contrasted by Meaningful Stone’s trademark bright sound. Filmed in the cold Korean winter, this song is an ode to the bittersweet patches of warmth we find within our homes and families.

PSYCHIC FEVER – “The Heat

Just weeks after going viral across social media for their song, “Just Like Dat,” J-Pop boy group Psychic Fever, a subgroup of the larger mega group EXILE TRIBE, has returned. New song “The Heat” does exactly what the title promises and brings the heat to a captivating track. Clocking in at three minutes, “The Heat” is an upbeat, catchy Pop-R&B song right in time for spring. The song is the first release ahead of their newly announced EP, Psychic File II. And was named to go along with the group’s upcoming Asia Tour entitled “HEAT,” which promises through its tagline to “ignite your dreams.” The smooth vocals during the chorus are complimented by deep gritty rap verses and a sung siren (wee-woo) sound. With lyrics instructing the listener to “heat up, heat up, heat up” and “put your hands up to the sky,” the track gives off a carefree, party vibe making it fun to listen to surrounded by friends, or alone in your room for an instant mood boost.

Mingginyu – “your cold hand”

As time moves forward, Indie Folk singer-songwriter Minggingyu can’t help but reminisce about a difficult moment in her past through her new EP, your cold hand. The heart-tugging EP envelops a delicate and sensitive soundscape, resulting in a personal and raw auditory experience for listeners alongside the wistful narrative sung. Self-composed and produced by Mingginyu and other talented musicians, the artist successfully layers a somber tone and invokes a sorrowful sentiment with her transparent lyricism and minimalistic use of instruments. With a single acoustic guitar, “your cold hand” tells of a past relationship full of grief, loneliness, and pain, searching for answers to past curiosities while coming to accept the harsh reality of their own downfall.

Haruomi Hosono, Mac DeMarco – “Boku Wa Chotto”

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Haruomi Hosono’s 1973 debut solo album Hosono House, Canadian singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco showcases his love for his hero with a personal rendition of the Japanese singer’s famous track “Boku Wa Chotto.” Sung in Japanese, the once country-fused song is transformed into an ambient ballad, bringing sole focus to the gentle serenade and soft guitar strumming. In this cover, Mac DeMarco stays true to the song’s colors with the minimal use of instruments, singing of enjoying the peaceful days before you and taking bliss in moments of silence, laughter, reflection, and dreaming.

LE SSERAFIM – “EASY”

Following their big year of hip-hop and Jersey club sounds of 2023, LE SSERAFIM has returned and is now in their trap/R&B bag with “EASY.” Serving as the lead single of their newest EP, “EASY” flaunts a more laid-back and cool-girl sound to the girl group that they haven’t necessarily shown off since 2022’s “Fearless.” They’re taunting the listener with how naturally it comes to being a member of LE SSERAFIM — poised with charm, grace, and most of all, talent. Judging by the popularity of their more recent title tracks, you’re instantly reminded of their more dynamic and upbeat ventures that have taken K-pop by storm in recent years. But the amount of confidence it takes to pull off a subdued track like this, they really do make it look so damn easy.

Billkin – “ก้าวก่าย (Meddling)”

Thai superstar Billkin Putthipong has returned with his latest single, “ก้าวก่าย (Meddling).” Coming off of a fresh win for previous single “Mr. Everything” as Best Melody of the Year at the LINE Melody Music awards and on the cusp of a new movie release, Billkin is starting 2024 with a bang. Written and produced by Thai singer-songwriter BOWKYLION, “ก้าวก่าย (Meddling)” is an uptempo R&B track detailing the regret and longing after a breakup.

Bilkin’s ex has moved on to a new relationship, but he is still stuck in what they used to have. “I wish to leave / but I am unable to / I’m still meddling / even though I have no right to hold you back,” he sings in the chorus. His rich and smooth vocals are highlighted over the simple production adding depth to the song. The music video depicts Billkin peering into romantic moments of his ex’s new relationship. There, as a ghost not able to be seen or interact, he reaches out to his ex anyway but never makes contact.

Saint Levant – “Deira”

Saint Levant released an emotional ode to his homeland of Palestine featuring young rapper MC Abdul. Entitled “Deira” the track is a somber celebration of their fellow Palestinians for their resilience while also uplifting their culture and yearning for freedom. The track — fully in Arabic is rich in sound and production, featuring violins and traditional instruments. Levant’s vocals are soft but firm in their conviction to the lyrics and 15 year old MC Abdul’s rap verse stays poignant on on the nose, “imagine try to fly with no wings / but I promise you the cagebird sings in the wintertime,” a reference to legendary poet, Maya Angelou’s book I Know Why The Cagedbird Sings. The universal understanding, expressed by Angelou in the poem, is that the confined bird sings for “things unknown but longed for still” a sentiment that continues to ring true and mirrors the entire message of “Deira.”

Caroline Romano – “Used By You”

Rising alt-pop artist Caroline Romano, released her powerful new single, “Used by You.” The song combines pop and alt-rock sounds, featuring melodic guitars and strong percussion in the production. In this track, Caroline narrates a relatable story of unrequited love, exploring the side effects of deep admiration combined with the fear of losing someone.

In a press release, Romano described “Used By You” as “brutal,” emphasizing its honest, blunt, and real nature. The song delves into the complexities of loving someone to the point of being willing to move mountains for them, even when they may not reciprocate. It explores the idea that the fear of losing someone is so strong that you’re willing to lose yourself instead.

Elle Darlington – “hiatus”

Twenty-year-old rising star, UK-based Elle Darlington has dropped her new single “hiatus.” The pop R&B groove follows her previous releases “christmas with you,” and debut single “wish you would,” making it her first release of 2024. “hiatus” encourages listeners to prioritize themselves and step away from situations that no longer serve them. “Oh God, I’m in need of a vacation / A full stop ’cause I’m needing me some time alone / l’ma turn off my location / Can’t avoid that you never put me in the zone.”

In the music video, Elle is at home trying to get over a breakup, ignoring the barrage of text messages from her ex and choosing to practice self-care instead. The song is perfect for a chill night with the girls and comes just in time to help soothe any post-Valentine’s Day breakups.

Conor Maynard – “Maybe I”

Hailing from across the pond, UK pop artist Conor Maynard has been ahead of the curve for over a decade now, adapting to the musical landscapes around him and crossing over into corners of the industry you wouldn’t even expect to see him in. But he’s there; he’s always been there. After 12 years of experimenting with his sound—from pop to R&B, EDM, and house—Maynard has shown how much of a chameleon he truly is. His latest single, “Maybe I,” is no different.

In this crisp new pop track, “Maybe I” sees Maynard struggle with the realization that his “situationship” has turned into something more complicated as he starts to develop romantic feelings for his partner. He goes back and forth, wondering if they should cross that line, or if she even feels the same way — fearing that if he admits it to her and himself, he might just lose her altogether. “Maybe I love you / Know we both said no strings, but maybe I want to,” Maynard contemplates. The singer always has a way of making heartbreaks and bad decisions sound good, but the delicious trap breakdown in that last chorus is enough to just make you throw all of your inhibitions out the window and hope for the best.

AleXa – “sick”

K-pop artist AleXa kicks off 2024 with “sick,” an early 00s-inspired pop-rock anthem record. The song is the first in a series of singles the artist plans to release throughout the year. “sick” describes the ups and downs of a toxic relationship, and navigating the inner feelings of not wanting better for yourself while also feeling undeserving of a partner who can seemingly do no wrong. “Boy you make me sick / You’re too fucking perfect I don’t deserve it…Sick to my stomach / I wanna vomit kissing your lips.”

The poignant music video sees AleXa and her beau having a knockdown, drag-out fight in multiple settings. By the end AleXa kills her boyfriend, putting an end to the vicious cycle. The track, in its vocal arrangements and production, is reminiscent of early Avril Lavigne, marking an evolution from AleXa’s previous more traditional pop-leaning discography.

Karol G ft. Tiësto – “Contigo”

The “Bichota Season” is never ending as Karol G continues to bring out more music. On February 14th, to celebrate both her birthday and Valentine’s Day, the Colombian artist released “Contigo,” featuring DJ Tiesto. The chorus “No quiero vida si no es contigo” encapsulates the overall romantic song; despite not having a word-for-word translation, the chorus can be understood like “I don’t want to live if it’s without you.”

The music video for the song not only features the Grammy-Winning artist, but for this special project, Young Miko, a promising Puerto Rican musician making a name for herself in the urban genre, joins in on the fun, both artists portraying the simple but meaningful moments lived in a relationship. With the release, Karol G stated, “Este video es un abracito al Cora para todas esas personas que alguna vez sintieron miedo a amar” translating to ‘this video is a hug to the heart of everyone who once felt scared to love.’

Win Metawin & Badmixy – “ดึกมากแล้ว (NIGHT RIDE)

Thai megastar Win Metawin teams up with popular Thai singer Badmixy for “ดึกมากแล้ว (NIGHT RIDE),” his second single released via Riser Music. Metawin dropped the new track right off the heels of a special NYFW appearance for Tommy Hilfiger, while Badmixy is still riding the waves of her viral single “dilf” and most recent release “Lost.” The song is a cute story detailing connecting with someone you met on a evening out and not wanting to part at the end of night, so you offer them a ride home. The end of the chorus perfectly illustrates the romantic intentions of the song’s protagonist. “Wanna lock eyes a little longer / can’t let you slip away farther / wanna spend more time together.” Metawin and Badmixy’s  vocals blend well together through out the track creating a sweet harmony.

Jorge Drexler – “Derrumbe”

When it comes to lyricism, Jorge Drexler always has something to say, and this time around with his latest single, “Derrumbe,” released on February 13th. The Uruguayan artist takes the listener on a melodic journey through the story of a breakup. The two-minute-long single is his latest release since his 2022 full-length album “Tinta y Tiempo.” “Las cartas caían, el tiempo sangraba / Y toda estructura de toda poesía / Se desmoronaba” which translates to “The cards fell, time was bleeding / and every structure of every poem / was crumbling.”

“Derrumbe” was originally meant to be part of “Tinta y Tiempo,” but due to the melancholic and darker nature of the song, it was taken out of the project that had a brighter concept. However, despite the differences between the track and album concept, it still maintains Jorge Drexler’s affinity for creating music that feels like poetry and whose relaxing voice brings an undeniable calmness.

Jeff Satur – “Yellow Leaf”

“Yellow Leaf” is the eighth track from Thai multihyphenate, Jeff Satur’s, newly released album Space Shuttle No.8. Written and produced by Satur himself, the track spins the tale of a beautiful love story, aided by Satur’s soft yet raw vocals and acoustic guitar. The official description of the song details that it’s a profession of love so immense it’s immeasurable even compared the amount of yellow leaves that blanket the earth in the fall. “When autumn leaves turn yellow and fall, the sheer quantity of them seems impossible to compare to how much I love you. The feelings I have for you, no matter how much time passes, will never run out.” However, the song also holds a bit of melancholy timbre in Satur’s voice especially as the song winds down with a repeated lyric of “Forever love for you” leaving the listener guessing on what becomes of this love.

February is (finally) here, and EnVi is ready to kick off the month with a bang and brand-new music. In this week’s edition of Sunday Spin, we’ve handpicked the freshest releases from around the globe to fuel you for the week ahead.

TWICE – “I GOT YOU”

Eleven months since their last global release, and with a massive sold-out world tour under their belt, K-pop girl group TWICE are back with their latest pre-release single, “I GOT YOU.” The song is the opener to their new era and album With You-th, which will be out later this month. The all-English track is reminiscent of their previous releases “I Can’t Stop” and “SET ME FREE,” with an ‘80s pop-inspired production.

The lyrics of the song are a love letter of reassurance to the important people in TWICE’s lives. As long as they’re together, nothing can tear them apart. “No matter what / you got me / I got you,” and “No drop of doubt / we’ll make it through / like we always do” is sung repeatedly in the chorus. The music video, meanwhile, shows the nine group members relishing in their sisterhood on a boat as they sail across the waters. The heavy lyrical subject matter is balanced out by the fun, synth-filled track underneath and the “doo doo doo doos” that lead the song to its closing.

Bella Poarch & 6arelyhuman – “Don’t Like Anybody”

TikTok-sensation-turned-musical-artist Bella Poarch has released her latest single alongside EDM/Dance musician 6arelyhuman. The track is short — clocking in at just over two minutes — but it packs a punch with its fun beat drop and catchy melodies. “Don’t Like Anybody” tells the story of an antisocial Bella going to a crowded party she really doesn’t want to be at. But, she happens to catch the eye of someone else there that makes going worth it. The earworm lyrics “I really just like you, I don’t like anybody” comprises the rest of the track. Porch and 6arelyhuman first sing these lines separately then harmonize the line together towards the end.

Arthur Nery & Janine Berdin – “Mikasa”

“Mikasa” is the latest track from Filipino singer-songwriters Arthur Nery and Janine Berdin. As one of the Philippines’ most successful voices of the 2020s — following his smash global hit “Pagsamo” — everything Nery touches turns to sonic gold. Berdin, a multi-hyphenate in her own right, also released her last hit “Sitwasyonship” just a few months ago in September. “Mikasa” is an alternative R&B song with a simple, almost calming, production that compliments the relaxed vocals from both Berdin and Nery.

As the song builds towards its climax, in the bridge Berdin raises the tension, gradually getting louder in her vocalization. Both singers then go back-and-forth, their voices growing louder and stronger with each trading verse in a melodic argument that neither seems to win. As a result, the song ends on a rather melancholic note. According to the official description of the song on the lyric visualizer, the track details an imbalanced, unhealthy love rooted in irrational desire, that causes the person to do almost anything for the other. An avid anime fan, Berdin was heavily inspired by the story of Mikasa Ackerman, a character from Attack on Titans.

Shekhar Ravjiani & Sunidhi Chauhan – “Phir Sochna Kya”

Play it loud and dance like no one’s watching with Indian singers Shekhar Ravjiani and Sunidhi Chauhan in their new track “Phir Sochna Kya.” Composed by Indian lyricist Rashmi Virag, this song is devoted to all the impulsive ones who wear their hearts on their sleeves and who wish to do whatever they feel is right. Adopting a techno mix, Chauhan shows off her charisma with her low octave range. Adding Ravjiani’s soulful tonal quality to the track results in a perfect harmonization to compliment this funky beat. As exciting as the song’s rhythm and lyrics are, the two singers are seen dancing freely in an elevator as they sing along to their easy-feel melody.

Ege Can Sal – “Normalde”

Turkish-pop artist Ege Can Sal is driven crazy in his recent single “Normalde.” Known for his experimental and distinct sound in music, Ege Can Sal returns with a dramatic piece featuring both robust vocals and rich downtempo. The track leans towards an electronic mix of rhythms and an evocative melody, resulting in an ominous yet soulful soundscape. The artist presents relatable lyrics through his somber lyricism, as he describes the emotional distress driven by the absence of the one he desires and longs for. Ege Can Sal keeps his music video as blunt as his song with a bird’s-eye view shot and blue neon light shining down on him as he grooves along to the song. With the simplicity of the verses and the song’s addictive repetitive chorus, “You drove me crazy / I’m not like this normally,” listeners are immersed in an alluring rhythmic experience.

Regina Song – “discord”

Ever been embarrassed by your Discord crush? 19-year-old Singaporean singer-songwriter Regina Song has just the song for you: her angsty rock single “discord.” This track is set as the sequel to her past release “love… at first sight?,” which was a song originating from crushing hard on an online (Discord) blind date her best friend set her up on. In “discord,” Regina asks him out, yet she is immediately turned down due to him being “too busy.” However, the singer-songwriter discovers his lie as she notices him gaming on Discord, leaving Regina ashamed and furious. Dedicated to those who’ve had their heart broken by Discord boys, “discord” is an outlet for those who’ve experienced a similar fury-fueled story.

This rage rock single breathes life into the singer’s anger through the electric guitar’s heavy metal arrangement, cadenced drum beats, and faint supporting synths. Matching the instrumental’s emotional performance, the track’s lyrics follow suit and carries the aching experience with Regina singing, “I’m so embarrassed / What a joke! / But I’ll sleep in peace / Knowing that I put a curse on your game console.” The story ends with the Discord’s voice call disconnect audio sample signaling the end of Regina’s grievance with the boy from the past.

BABYMONSTER – “Stuck In The Middle”

YG Entertainment’s newest girl group BABYMONSTER has released “Stuck in The Middle,” the follow-up track to their November debut single “BATTER UP.” The seven-member group, currently promoting as six, shows a new side of themselves with the latest release, a slower mid-tempo ballad as opposed to the fiery, hip-hop-inspired concept they started with. “Stuck In The Middle” is an all-English song and showcases the members’ vocal skills and their fluency in the English language.

The lyrics of the song recount the emotions of a relationship riddled with uncertainty and conflicting feelings. The members describe the sentiment of being stuck in the middle of not only the other person’s feelings but their own, too, and not knowing exactly where they stand. The single serves as a pre-release ahead of the group’s debut album. BABYMONSTER’s debut album is set to be released this spring, which will see them unite as seven.

yama – “Deep faker”

All eyes are on Japanese solo artist yama as she wears a false face in her single “Deep faker.” In this track from her third album, awake&build, yama explores the concept of masking one’s true self. Through her conceptual lyricism, the artist touches on the difficulties of reality and the question of possessing authenticity in a society full of deceptions.

Complementing the disruptive narrative, art director QMENG and art producer VIVINOS express the track’s distress through tetradic color schemes and erotic art expression. QMENG and VIVINOS present a thrilling chamber piece, displaying our tormented protagonist’s internal conflicts. From one scene to another, the two artists breathe life into the cruel reality of shallow relationships, conformity to the public eye, and complexities of breaking free from others and self confinement.

IU – “Love Wins All”

Korean soloist and actor IU is an artist that needs little introduction. Shortly after announcing her first world tour, the artist released her single “Love Wins All.” Mellow, melancholic verses build into a highly anticipated chorus. IU’s striking vocals climb to an emotional climax until she reaches the top of her range where she transitions into airy falsettos. Dreamy strings heighten the cinematic atmosphere that demands awe and grandeur. The fantastical and heart-wrenching music video is fitting for the beauty of “Love Wins All.” The video is set in an apocalyptic world where IU and BTS’s V are hunted for their disabilities. Amidst this tragedy, the couple’s romance defies all, building themselves a world where only their love for one another matters.
