If you tuned into the 88RISING FUTURES showcase at Coachella last weekend, there is no way you could have missed Chinese superstar XIN LIU. Aside from being adorned in gold from head to toe, she owned the stage with her dynamic vocal range, passionate dancing, and captivating presence. Showing love for her roots, XIN LIU’s set also featured Chinese street dance and dancers who wore traditional clothing from her hometown of Guiyang, China.

One of the highlights of XIN LIU’s set included the live debut of her first all-English single, “Reality.” On April 18, the singer officially released the track via music and multimedia company 88rising for fans across the globe.

The Good, The Bad, and The Reality

XIN LIU is not one for a flair for the dramatic, or in this case, the C-I-N-E-M-A-T-I-C, when it comes to love. “Reality” is as straightforward and drama-free as love can get — and it is an absolute delight both in theory and to the ears. She directly tells her lover, “Hit me with reality / That’s the real fantasy,” yearning for the good, the bad, and everything in-between. XIN LIU summarized the meaning of the song in a press release by explaining, “Keep it real, with all the imperfections, yet still perfectly enough.”

Channeling a romantic nature with its dreamlike sound effects, the electro-pop song is lighthearted and bouncy enough to get anyone dancing. In the music video, the artist playfully navigates her way through a vintage store in Los Angeles. XIN LIU can be seen dancing alongside mannequins and trying on a thrifter’s dream haul. Featuring clever choreography by award-winning dancer Jillian Meyers, XIN LIU proves herself to be an intriguing performer with her expressive motions and facial expressions in the “Reality” music video.

Stay Tuned…

After rising to fame in 2020 after ranking first place in the Chinese reality show Youth With You 2, XIN LIU has become one of the biggest artists to emerge from China. Well-known for her performance talents, XIN LIU has garnered over 26 million followers on social media. With her effortless androgynous style, she has even become a brand ambassador for Dior China while also gracing the covers of publications such as Vogue China, Harper’s Bazaar, and GQ

XIN LIU is now signed to the pioneering global music and media company 88rising, which focuses on uplifting Asian talent across the world. And just as her newly-signed record label said, it seems like this is only the beginning for XIN LIU.

Make sure to follow XIN LIU on Instagram and X to stay up-to-date with her future projects. “Reality” is available worldwide now!

In a shift from their signature style, K-pop sensation A.C.E took on a mellow vibe in their latest project, My Girl : “My Choice, marking their sixth mini-album. The seven-track EP, which was released on February 22, served as the group’s triumphant return after a two-and-a-half year hiatus due to the members’ military enlistment.

A.C.E embraced a softer, pop sound intertwined with heartfelt ballads, departing from their previous hip-hop-infused tracks such as “SAVAGE” and “Under Cover.” Throughout the album, A.C.E explore themes of love and self-discovery that resonate with listeners.

Rapper WOW shared about the group’s new trajectory: “All of us share a deep love for music, which has allowed us to maintain our unique style. This passion for music also emboldened us to explore new styles and genres, as finding value in pushing our boundaries and remaining versatile. We are committed to continuing this journey of exploration and embracing new genres in the future.”

During a roundtable interview, EnVi had the opportunity to speak with the boy group. The members —  Lee Donghun, Park Junhee, WOW, Kim Byeongkwan, and Kang Yuchan — welcomed everyone on the Zoom call with unwavering smiles. A.C.E dove deep into the album, the unique experience of filming the title track’s music video with fans, and their growth as a group.

My Girl : “My Choice”

In their title track “My Girl,” A.C.E narrate their journey in discovering themselves and finding meaning in their existence, while expressing their devotion to a loved one. This lively disco-pop anthem thrives on its infectious beat and smooth vocals.

The members played significant roles in the album’s composition, with Junhee, Donghun, and WOW each earning writing credits throughout. Donghun, the group’s main vocalist, co-wrote “My Girl.”

“This album involved more member participation in the production process, giving us a deeper understanding of its creation,” Donghun revealed. “With increased experience, each member gained confidence in their singing and developed unique opinions. This boosted our ability to comprehend and convey emotions in our songs more efficiently, resulting in a higher-quality outcome.”

He also mentioned that for this recording process, the members took on a unique approach where they each pre-recorded a guided version of the song and then combined them into one. Donghun continued, “We aimed to showcase A.C.E’s vocal skills, so we paid meticulous attention to details during the recording. This method significantly enhanced the album’s quality.”

Main dancer and rapper WOW co-wrote the track “Facetime,” a song where the boys express their innermost feelings about a girl they’re trying to Facetime with.

“For the track ‘Facetime,’ WOW composed the song so we were calling him the producer, a nickname that he really liked,” shared main dancer and rapper Byeongkwan. “During the recording of the guided version, he would joke around saying that his version was the original — that he got the ‘original sound.’ It was very funny.”

Donghun playfully shared that he usually chooses “Facetime” as his favorite song, but since the producer, WOW, didn’t give him a lot of lines, his favorite is now “My Girl.” He added, “From the moment I heard it, I believed it had the potential to make it to the Billboard charts, which got me really excited. It’s quite unfortunate that this didn’t come to pass.”

His teammates also expressed the same aspiration of achieving a Billboard listing. Byeongkwan expressed confidence that “My Girl” will rise in popularity when the group embarks on their  upcoming tour.

“We’re counting on all of your support to get ‘My Girl’ listed on Billboards,” vocalist Junhee emphasized.

The album also features English versions of B-sides “Angel” and “Effortless,” as well as the title track. Byeongkwan explained, “We recorded the English version before the Korean version, so when we later recorded the Korean version, we aimed to maintain the same vibe as in the English recording. Each member provided feedback on pronunciation while one member was in the recording booth, and we all listened and offered input. I believe this collaborative effort is evident in the final result.”

Yuchan, main vocalist and maknae (youngest member), was unable to participate in the album due to fulfilling his military enlistment during the time of production. Byeongkwan lamented, “It was unfortunate not to have Yuchan with us during the process.”

On the new song’s performance and pre-recording process, he added, “Our past performances were intense and left us sweating a lot. But with this comeback, I didn’t even sweat that much after we pre-recorded two or three times. It felt as if the sense of achievement was not as strong as before. Rather, I sweated while trying the challenges of other groups.”

A Touching Collaboration: A.C.E and Choice

A.C.E took on the persona of office workers in this comeback, offering fans a glimpse behind the scenes through their Petflix series on YouTube. Transforming into employees at a media content creating company who aim to book A.C.E to film a dance video, the members enlisted their dedicated fanbase, affectionately called Choice, to join them as dancers in the “My Girl” music video after an intensive three-day rehearsal period.

“I was initially concerned because we needed to teach the choreography to our fans, and they had to fully learn it within a week for the shoot,” expressed leader Junhee, while other members nodded along. “Despite the tight timeline, our fans dedicated themselves to practicing the choreography with utmost effort. I was pleasantly surprised by their commitment and it was heartwarming to see the love they have for A.C.E. It was truly a touching moment for us.”

Byeongkwan remarked that this was entirely new for the group but they always enjoy spending time with fans, whether at fan signing events or concerts. He continued, “Teaching our fans the choreography of our title track up close and filming the music video together was an incredible honor and a cherished memory.” Yuchan nodded along and gave a double thumbs up despite not being able to participate in the music video.

This collaborative effort not only solidified the bond between A.C.E and their devoted Choice, but left a lasting mark on the ever-evolving K-pop scene.

“I’m deeply grateful for the positive feedback we’ve received. Our goal wasn’t to pioneer something new or set a trend; rather, we aimed to make this music video meaningful as it marked our comeback after a long hiatus, and we wanted to create lasting memories for our fans. The response has been incredibly gratifying, with our fans expressing immense enjoyment and considering it a memorable gift. I’m simply thankful for all of this,” Junhee shared.

A.C.E is an acronym for “Adventure Calling Emotions,” signifying the group’s desire to evoke emotions that inspire people to embark on adventures and pursue their dreams.

“I hope our fans see us as proof that with determination and effort, one can achieve their goals in life. We have started from the bottom and we had a goal to succeed which has brought us where we are now,” Junhee stated. “I want our fans to feel inspired and believe in their own abilities, knowing that they too can accomplish great things with faith and determination.”

Byeongkwan added, “We also think that, as time goes by, we are growing together with our fans. We think that is the most important part of our journey.”

From Break to Breakthroughs

During their two-year hiatus for mandatory military service, the members underwent notable personal and collective growth.

Junhee expressed newfound appreciation for the value of small moments and camaraderie among the members. He added, “I was so happy to be back together, and I’m incredibly grateful that we can perform together again.”

Reflecting on their journey since debut, Donghun emphasized the evolution of teamwork. He said, “Mutual respect and care have become our guiding principles for maintaining close relationships. With time and maturity, these values have become ingrained in our teamwork, which have brought a harmonious dynamic among us.”

Byeongkwan revealed that going into the recording booth used to be nerve-wrecking for him as he was worried about showcasing everything he prepared in a limited time. He noted, “Coming back from the military service, I’ve noticed a more relaxed approach to recording, which reflects positively in the final outcome. It’s a noticeable change I’ve experienced.”

Junhee also addressed the obstacles posed by the rise of TikTok challenge culture, a trend that demands constant collaboration and learning of dance routines from other groups. During A.C.E’s early debut stages, such a culture wasn’t prevalent. However, now artists are seen filming challenge videos with other idols in waiting areas at music shows, leaving the members little time for rest after performances or rehearsals. Despite the difficulties, A.C.E remain committed to meeting fan expectations and embracing new trends.

What’s Next for A.C.E?

Fans can anticipate catching A.C.E on their upcoming “JAPAN 1st LIVE TOUR” in Japan, kicking off next week, followed by the “[REWIND US]US tour featuring 14 dates throughout the summer.

The members expressed their excitement about exploring these cities and reuniting with fans face-to-face. Yuchan, who will be joining the group on tour, said, “While I look forward to discovering new cuisines and cultures, it’s the distinctive energy of a new city that truly excites me.”

Donghun added, “When we tour a new city, our time is mostly spent at the show venue. So we remember the city by the energy from our fans and the ambiance of the venue. I’m looking forward to creating wonderful memories with our fans during this tour as well.”

Choice can also expect a surprise from the band, as Byeongkwan hinted, “We also have something special from Yuchan, which we cannot share the details about, but you will be able to see for yourselves very soon. Next month, maybe, we might be able to release our new album so please look forward to that as well.”

Regarding their teased new album, Byeongkwan revealed, “We’re aiming for a more intense and sexier vibe than ‘Under Cover’ or ‘SAVAGE.’ It feels like it’ll be the best one yet. I might be revealing too much about our next album, but please look forward to hearing it! I can guarantee you all!”

After performing at 10 other city stops across North America, K-pop group ONEUS returned to Los Angeles to conclude the U.S. leg of their second world tour, “La Dolce Vita.” On April 10, the five-member boy group, which consists of HWANWOONG, XION, SEOHO, LEEDO, and KEONHEE, put on a show at the Wiltern Theater. During this final concert, they gave fans a memorable night full of live vocals and raps, captivating choreography, and fan interactions.

Before ONEUS graced the stage with their presence, RBW Entertainment’s newest boy group, NXD, opened the show with two pre-debut songs. Dressed in ripped jeans, graphic tees, and a basketball in hand — the very image of a youthful group — NXD began their performance with “JUMP.” The energetic dancing and singing was matched by the crowd hyping them up. After the first song, the NXD members (JAEMIN, HIROTO, HYEONGGEUN, DAEHYUN, and YONGJOON) took an intermission to introduce themselves to the audience as well as to ask fans to look forward to their debut. The group then proceeded with their second song, “Giddy Up,” a lively arranged track that accentuates the youthfulness of the members. Their stage presence made such an impression that some TOMOON, ONEUS’s fandom name, commented that they might just have to stan.

ONEUS Create a “Beautiful Memory” in L.A.

Dressed in blue jewel-adored jackets and white pants, ONEUS started off their stage with the Latin-inspired song “Baila Conmigo” and techno-sounding song “Erase Me.” Meanwhile, fans sang and cheered along enthusiastically with their Moonlight lightsticks in hand. After the intro songs, ONEUS took a break to catch their breaths and to say hi to their audience. They introduced themselves with their signature group greeting, “Hello, we are ONEUS!” Their greeting was followed by the hand signs of a one and a circle, which signifies ONE EARTH, the meaning behind ONEUS’ name.

To keep the energy up, the members asked TOMOON, “As this is our last stop, we want to spend the day without any regrets. You guys are going to help us to create a beautiful memory, right?” In response, their fans screamed in agreement. The lights then dimmed and chairs were brought out for ONEUS’ performance of “Simulation.”

Throughout the rest of the night, ONEUS showcased their versatility by having a range of outfit changes, choreography, and songs. Tracks such as “Luna,” “No Diggity,” and “Twilight” brought high energy, which the crowd reflected back to the members. While their tracks such as “Halley’s Comet” and “Epilogue” calmed down the vibrancy in the room and into more of a melancholic and heartfelt atmosphere.

“Life is Beautiful” With ONEUS

For the last portion of the show, ONEUS walked out in Dodgers jerseys to perform “Black Mirror” and “Bbusyeo.” Following these two tracks, the members took a moment to capture a group picture with their dancers and fans, solidifying this show as a memory. To continue with the joyous energy, the members then moved on to sing “Life is Beautiful” and “Shut Up Crazy Hot!”

During these songs, the group brought out bubble and money toy guns, pointing them toward the ecstatic audience. ONEUS also took this time to go out into the crowd to interact with TOMOON. The members made hand hearts, high fived those around them, even blew kisses to fans’ cameras. ONEUS ultimately bid farewell to the fans with “Last Song.” The track’s lyrics of “Let me do it again, love you once again” evoke the need for ONEUS to return in the future with more comebacks, more U.S. shows, and more time to spend with their TOMOON.

From aspiring drummer to established musician, at 31, Keina Suda is making waves with his self-composed tracks and versatility within music genres. His most recently participated in the opening of the Japanese animation Tsukimichi -Moonlight Fantasy Season 2. “Utopia,” released January 8, put Suda in the eyes of the world with his lyricism and creativity as a composer.

In a recent email interview, EnVi spoke with the Japanese artist who discussed his creative process, the story behind “Utopia,” and his most recent project “April.”

The Beginning Of Keina Suda

For most rising artists, finding their tone and color in music can be quite the challenge. As setbacks happen in life, they tend to find ways to grow and create their own opportunities. They open doors to a world of successes and the possibility to make something new. For Keina Suda, this is a reality. Over 13 years in the music industry have shaped him into the artist he is today. After only making melodies and working for other artists, in 2017, Suda decided to start incorporating lyrics into his music, which is now a key element in his work. “I value melody and lyrics above all else,” he explained.

When it comes to his work, the self-proclaimed creator of the “ultimate bedroom pop music” is making a statement of himself as both an artist and a person. “Music can reflect 100% of the scenery in your mind,” he wrote. Suda himself is in charge of every part of the production process, from lyrics and composition to the very release, as music has become a way to reflect what’s on his mind. For him, the boundaries that could hold the creative process are not important. “One of the advantages is that you can complement the scenery with sounds and rhythms.”

In the process of finding his voice and messages he wants to convey, Suda doesn’t shy away from experimenting with music, branching out to find what fits his objective better. “I think I spent a great deal of time just searching for my favorite sounds and melodic habits,” he explained. When asked about the process behind the arrangements, he said, “I often start by creating a rough draft with just vocals and guitar before working on the track.” He continued, “I find that following this process helps to highlight the power of melody and lyrics.”

Creating “Utopia”

After working on his solo music, developing his sounds, and getting more experience in the industry, it was in 2023 that Suda got the opportunity to create the opening for the second season of Tsukimichi -Moonlight Fantasy-, a story about a boy who finds himself in an alternative universe looking to understand his new powers and purpose, surrounded by gods, dragons, and more non-human creatures. For the opening, Suda’s vision bleeds into the bittersweet lyrics. He explained, “Even if someone arrives at the utopia that they envision, once they get used to the environment, they will seek a new utopia, and eventually, it turns into a dystopia.”

For musicians, taking inspiration from different sources is key to creating music. When it comes to projects like these that reflect a story, it’s important to keep in mind the characters they represent. For Suda, the character that best embodied his idea was the angel. “There’s a main character, an angel, whose space represents the utopia in this work,” he expressed. “She embodies the idea of being in a world without dissatisfaction yet yearning for the outside world. That aspect was expressed through her character.” This is represented in the music video of the song, where the angels’ perfect world slowly breaks down.

“Utopia” solidifies Suda as a versatile artist, as the upbeat track with its energetic melodies explores different styles and genres — a feat that Suda celebrates in his music. “While I make music in a variety of genres, I pack every song with catchy elements,” he explained. For this song, he took a different approach to his usual work to create something different. “Compared to the other pieces, this song is very simple and straightforward. Rather than a technical approach, the music strongly reflects the passion of each musician,”he said.

Now with two full-length albums and over a million monthly listeners on Spotify, Suda’s hunger for more persists. Much like the characters of the animation, he has also pondered what his Utopia would be, with music at the backbone of it all. “It would be a world where music becomes even more integrated into daily life than it is now,” he confessed. Continuing on, Suda shared his thoughts on how he believes music could make a difference in his country.“In Japan, there are many people who don’t even listen to music in the first place. It would make me happy if people could easily immerse themselves in the existence of music,” he explained.

A New Journey Begins

Starting the year with these new projects, it’s safe to say there’s more to expect from Suda. He has a long way to go in his journey as a musician, and 2024 looks promising for him. With his purpose clear, he feels listeners can expect a lot from him beyond his normal limits. “I want to make music that is more expansive, that transcends age and language barriers. I’d also like to collaborate with other musicians.”

The message of pushing his limits and aiming for more solidified when his latest single “April” released on March 29th. The single emphasizes the already cemented sound of the artist. As for his fans, the singer couldn’t help but express how grateful he was, sharing a warm message to his international fanbase. “Thank you very much for reading! I released a new song “April” on March 29. It’s a song about encounters and partings. I hope you’ll listen to it a lot. Someday, I’ll visit your country for a live performance,” he finished.

Kenshi Yonezu – “ さよーならまたいつか So long and you again!”

Spread your wings and soar with Japanese singer-songwriter, Kenshi Yonezu‘s latest digital single, “さよーならまたいつか!(Sayonara Mata Itsuka!).” The song serves as the opening theme song for NHK’s morning drama Wings for the Tiger. In this track, Yonezu’s clean reveratos voice takes center stage, delivering a calm yet poignant melody on an uplifting beat. The accompanying music video, reminiscent of the video for his song “Lemon,” adds a unique twist by playing in reverse, incorporating rewind/fast forward effects to symbolize the concept of time. Amidst the chaos of a retro diner, Yonezu remains nonchalant dressed boldly in red head to toe, creating a thought-provoking contrast between his serene singing and the bustling background. This captivating visual narrative captures the essence of the song, leaving viewers intrigued and immersed in its depth.

The feature, as well as general interest in current Black country artists, introduced her to a wider audience and boosted her streams. “Whiskey Blues” stays true to Adell’s musical identity, showcasing soulful country pop and clever lyricism alongside her clear vocals. The song details the lingering feelings for an ex, ranging from anger to longing which Adell expresses as a “bad case of the whiskey blues.” With a new, ever-growing fanbase of her ‘buckle bunnies,’ “Whiskey Blues” gives them a glimpse into what to expect from the star going forward.

BRIGHT – “Long Run”

Thai actor and singer Bright Vachirawit, most known professionally as BRIGHT, has returned to the music scene with his latest single, “Long Run.” Released under the multi-faceted star’s entertainment company, Cloud9 Entertainment, “Long Run” is a delicate alternative single tackling themes of introspection and hope. Described by BRIGHT to “keep you warm even in the coldest day,” the song exudes that exact warmth and comfort with its gentle drumbeat, watery guitars, and soft electronic effects. The track’s chorus features BRIGHT tenderly singing over layered chants of the song’s title — emphasizing the dreaminess the track holds. As we prepare for a summer that is bound to be filled with late-night drives or sunsets galore, BRIGHT’s “Long Run” is a contender to soundtrack the season.

Indie-pop artist Vicky Farewell is gearing up for the release of her upcoming album, Give A Damn, which is slated for a May 10 release via Mac’s Record Label. As the record’s release date grows nearer, Farewell released the album’s lead single “Tern Me On.” But on April 8, Farewell gave listeners yet another peek into Give A Damn with her latest single, “Push It.” The hauntingly sweet synth-heavy track pairs well with Farewell’s wispy vocals as she expresses her frustration for an intimacy gone stagnant. She bluntly tells her lover, “If you want to do better, go for it.” Chock full of harmonies, Farewell’s vocals are the star of the show, drawing listeners in with her delicate swoon-worthy tone.

Perrie  – “Forget About Us”

You may know Perrie Edwards for her stellar vocals in the British girl group Little Mix. Although the trio is currently on hiatus for group activities, this time has allowed them to pursue their own solo endeavors. Leigh-Anne made her powerful solo debut last summer, and Perrie has rolled up just before this summer to shine. “Forget About Us” introduces the world to soloist Perrie — she’s fun, she’s sentimental, but most importantly her power lies within her undeniable vocal prowess. The single is a heartbreak recovery anthem rooted in nostalgia and wrapped up in a bright pop melody. Reflecting upon a love that didn’t work out, Perrie wishes her previous lover well and hopes they both can recognize the good times they shared. The lyrics written by Perrie herself, pop mogul Ed Sheeran, David Hodges, and Steven Solomon leave listeners with an overall hopeful feeling about the bittersweet reminiscence.

ONE N’ ONLY – “DOMINO”

Looking to shake off that springtime gloom? Tune into Japanese boy group ONE N’ ONLY’s bold and upbeat single, “DOMINO,” for a pre-summer pick-me-up that will have you dancing in no time! Members TETTA, REI, EIKU, HAYATO, KENSHIN, and NAOYA made their debut in 2018 with their self-branded unique genre of “JK-pop” — a distinctive style that blends both J-pop and K-pop. But their latest release has tapped into Latin elements, highlighting that the group is fully prepared to continue evolving sonically and take the world by storm. With its Latin-infused beats, catchy hook, fierce raps, and intriguing melody, “DOMINO” was made for one thing — to get listeners hyped up. The high-energy track will likely appeal to fans of experimental K-pop groups such as ATEEZ, NCT, and OMEGA X.

Jingzhi Hu, better known as Jinzy, has been blossoming in the music scene. The Shanghai native is an independent artist and started her music journey in New York City with her debut single “I Left The City That Night,” and has since done some big things. Now in Los Angeles for graduate school, she is still taking on music as her lead in her life. Sitting in her old room back in Shanghai, Jinzy got vulnerable with EnVi about her journey through music thus far.

Launching Into Music

2019 marks the year when Jinzy started to take music seriously. Before, she would write little songs on her guitar inspired by Taylor Swift, but she doesn’t consider those as her true beginnings. A multitude of things weave together to catalyze her music career. She drew a lot of inspiration from Chinese rap group Straight Fire Gang who, like her, were international students from Shanghai. They were not the typical rap group and used their music to highlight important discussions in their community, Jinzy explained. That was something she also aimed to do.

It wasn’t until the pandemic when she started to take music to the next level. “I remember the first day they [university] told us we were working online, I bought a mini keyboard,” Jinzy recalled. “I thought, ‘now that I have all this free time I could study music production on my own.’” Learning through YouTube, she was able to learn how to make her own beats in no time. She also recalled a moment where she saw people “doing hip-hop stuff on the street,” which really moved her into doing the genre.

“It opened up a window for me to speak up for myself, to interact with other people from all over the world just through the work I was posting online,” she said, grinning. “And then the music thing helped me gain a little bit of order during this chaotic time.” If it weren’t for music, she would be sleeping all day, she joked.

By becoming a contestant of the Chinese survival show Girls Like Us in 2021, Jinzy truly launched herself into the music world. For the first time, she learned about the music industry and experienced the harsh hip-hop scene herself. It was an awkward period for her, as she felt less authentic to herself. She felt like she had to prove she was serious about music, Jinzy explained.

“After the show I started to think, what else can I do?” Jinzy said.

Artificial Intelligence and Experimentation

Jinzy doesn’t deter herself from trying new things. In fact, she has been able to combine all of her interests to create a unique voice and artistry for herself. As an undergraduate at New York University, she majored in interactive media arts. Within her classes, she first started learning about artificial intelligence (AI), which sparked a new interest in her.

“I just found it fascinating how coding and engineering are on the opposite side of art, but you can still use it to create art,” Jinzy said as she talked about her experience taking a class called Machine Learning for the Arts. By the end of the class, she wrote a song called “Turing’s Secret,” which discusses the possibility of AI having a brain and a soul. She has continued to explore the roles between human and artificial intelligence through other songs she has written such as “Joi – Beyond Farewell,” which is part of her EP called AI LAB.

When it comes to her sound, she was first drawn to R&B and sci-fi, known as filk. Her friends like to call it “driving music,” Jinzy said. She does not limit herself as she likes to dabble in other genres as well. “I released a lot of singles of different styles,” she said. “I released melodic rap, indie, something mixed with EDM and pop… and funk!”

Through trying new things and figuring out different modes of self-expression, Jinzy pioneers a unique ability to be as flexible as she needs to be. As long as the story she is trying to tell comes across the way she wants, that’s all that matters to her.

“My focus is the narrative — the story I want to tell.” Jinzy said. “[…] There’s no restraint for me, I can do anything that I want.”

Overcoming Challenges and Mental Health Issues

This journey has not been an easy one for Jinzy. Her time on Girls Like Us had been especially challenging for her, especially as someone who was fresh into the industry. To EnVi, Jinzy revealed having a lot of mental health struggles during the show. She was constantly plagued by overthinking and feelings of having to be someone she’s not. While sharing her experiences, she recalled valuable advice from another contestant who had been in the music scene far longer than her.

“She said to me, ‘Jinzy, your mind can’t take it because you’re learning a lot of new things,’” she said. “‘Everything is new to you and there are a lot of lessons.’ She said it took her 10 years to learn but I’m learning all that in weeks.” Despite the hardships she had faced, Jinzy said she was glad to be able to learn a lot of things at a fast rate.

In a candid moment, Jinzy also revealed that mental health has been an important part of her journey. She can trace having mental health struggles back to the beginning of her musical career and the start of the pandemic. Additionally, Jinzy has been transparent about having borderline personality disorder (BPD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) since officially diagnosed in November of 2023. “The thing that helped me a lot was to embrace that I had […] those mental health issues,” she said.

Slowly but surely, Jinzy has been implementing better ways to manage her mental health. One of them is writing music as a form of therapy. “I’ll write songs that make myself happy,” Jinzy expressed. “And every time I sing it, I myself get happy.” She referred to a song she wrote for Rap of China called “Don’t You Worry,” when talking about songs that help her feel happy. This upbeat and colorful song proved its positive message as she got the crowd to groove with her.

“Being Myself Is So Cool”

Authenticity is a big part of Jinzy’s life. Though she emanates confidence through her stage performances, she has always struggled to find her way to her authentic self. She has since prioritized self-care and also has turned to her go-to self-help book The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. Jinzy talked about how reading the book helped her stop thinking about how others thought about her and how she should act. This self-realization was a catalyst and an imperative moment to her in becoming comfortable with the person she is. Instead of trying to fit herself into a box for success, she has now been embracing herself.

As a Top Six contestant for the Rap of China overseas auditions, Jinzy felt she had a second chance for expressing herself authentically with a new audience in a new environment. By holding true to advice from a fellow Rap of China contestant — “I know you’re scared but just do you and then people are gonna remember you just because of who you are,”— she makes it through until the end.

“I tried for the first time and it really worked, then I kept trying and it kept working,” Jinzy said with surprise. “I also lost the New York division final round, but I felt like I didn’t really care because I was being me.”

Image courtesy of Yiwen Qian (@yiwenq530).

After all she has experienced, Jinzy realized being herself pays off in the end as she’ll find the right audience that way. Her ultimate goal is being comfortable with who she is and her artistry. “I’ve had past experiences where I wasn’t comfortable, where I made a fool out of myself, where I was leading a misleading impression on others,” Jinzy admitted. Learning and growing from these experiences have led her to making peace with who she is.

Exciting Year Ahead

Jinzy has a lot planned for the rest of the year. From college shows, music festivals in China, to new music, the work keeps flooding in for her. Jinzy emphasizes the importance of keeping track of things to focus on. She’ll continue to carry on her magnetic charm with her as she continues to hit the stage.

“Now that I think of everything as a journey, it relieves a lot of pressure on me,” Jinzy expressed. “But I’m still very curious about where I’m gonna take myself.”

Make sure to follow Jinzy and her journey through her Instagram, Spotify, Apple Music, and Douyin!

Everyone “Wake Up,” ATEEZ are here to wreck your playlists with banger hits including “Crazy Form” from their second full album, THE WORLD EP.FIN : WILL. Making their mark through achievements like debuting at No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart and scoring a title as the first K-pop group to be featured in the GRAMMY Museum’s K-pop exhibition (alongside their little brother group, xikers), ATEEZ are ready to steal hearts. Eldest member SEONGHWA is just one of the many reasons people flock to know more about the eight-member group, enchanting others with his timeless stage presence, vocals, and charm. To celebrate ATEEZ’s appearance as the first K-pop boy group to perform at Coachella, here are seven facts to know about SEONGHWA, ATEEZ’s Toothless and star.

Written In the Stars

SEONGHWA effortlessly embodies his name’s celestial magnitude. In Korean, his name translates to “to be a star,” reflecting his radiant presence within the group and on stage. His nickname, “Hwaseong,” translating to “Mars,” further captures his cosmic aura and builds on his stand-out name. It seems SEONGHWA’s destiny was even written in the stars, as he dazzles audiences with his power and magnetism.

He is known for his facial expressions while performing, staying in character as part of the ATEEZ lore. In the 2021 track “HALAZIA,” SEONGHWA played into the emotional intensity of the lyrics and music video, looking almost as if he was being overtaken by ferocity and sadness all at once. After every dynamic performance, like “HALAZIA,” fans are left starry-eyed and wanting to know more.

A Jack of All Trades

As the epitome of versatility, SEONGHWA never fails to show off his multiple skills and abilities. Although he initially auditioned for KQ Entertainment as a rapper, things turned out differently when he debuted as a vocalist in ATEEZ. Despite not doing what he originally intended, SEONGHWA’s dedication has proven him worthy of this role, demonstrating his top-notch vocal range and emotive delivery in songs like “AURORA.” His ability to captivate listeners with his melodic prowess proves that his skills extend far and wide.

SEONGHWA’s talents aren’t limited to just one aspect of performance; he’s a true triple threat. Recently, he’s been showing off his rap skills in hits like “MATZ,” his unit song with ATEEZ’s HONGJOONG. The track is in-your-face and gives the impression of a headstrong, confident duo, where SEONGHWA is able to effortlessly spit bars with precision and flair. His versatility doesn’t end there. SEONGHWA is also a skilled dancer, mesmerizing fans with his smooth moves and impeccable dance lines, despite ATEEZ’s notably difficult choreography, like “HALA HALA.” He has also drawn attention for his covers of K-pop girl group dances, accurately dancing along to tracks such as CHUNG HA’s “Bicycle” and TWICE’s “Look At Me,” while infusing his own unique style and charisma in them.

Sleek and Gender-Neutral Fashion

SEONGHWA’s progressive stance on gender-neutral fashion has become an integral part of his known interests, setting him apart as a trendsetter within the K-pop industry. In an interview with BuzzFeed, he described his fashion sense as “genderless, slender, sleek,” when asked to describe it in three words. His keen eye for style transcends traditional boundaries of gender. ATEEZ as a whole have always embraced bold and unconventional stage outfits, incorporating unique accessories and vibrant colors to stand out. However, SEONGHWA has taken it a step further by fearlessly donning heels during performances, as seen at SBS Gayo Daejeon, and sporting a dress on the cover of ELLE Singapore. His unaltered confidence in expressing himself serves as an inspiration to fans who may feel hesitant about stepping outside the confines of societal norms. Through his fearless approach to self-expression and authenticity, SEONGHWA is an up-and-coming beacon of empowerment for K-pop fans.

Even beyond the stage, SEONGHWA’s fashion mindset extends to his personal style, where he also serves sleek and timeless looks, mostly by high-end fashion brands including his favorite, Saint Laurent. Saint Laurent has often challenged ideals of gender roles in fashion, which is reflected in their Spring Summer 2024 collection. SEONGHWA can fit any concept, but when he’s not on stage, he is mostly seen in minimalist outfits using a slightly oversized sweater or jacket paired with relaxed black trousers or blue jeans. When he wants to spice it up, SEONGHWA utilizes jewelry, his hair (mostly hair length), and textures like fur. SEONGHWA consistently pushes boundaries and inspires fans to embrace their individuality with confidence and pride.

The Cleanest of Them All

As the oldest member of ATEEZ, SEONGHWA is known among ATINY — ATEEZ’s fans — as the one who takes care of his fellow members in the manner of a doting older brother. He has been distinguished among all the members as the one who is most clean. When living in a dormitory together, SEONGHWA was the member to maintain the group’s living spaces with the utmost precision, making sure it lived to his standards. This was even noted in ATEEZ’s pre-debut reality show, CODE NAME is ATEEZ.

SEONGHWA is no doubt dedicated to personal hygiene, seen at the members’ affectionate jabs at his lengthy 30 to 40-minute showers. Currently, in his new personal living space, SEONGHWA keeps everything carefully organized in a way he best prefers. ATINY also have had glimpses of his clean tendencies through live streams and variety shows. Through live streams, fans have experienced the playful dynamic between members and SEONGHWA, watching lighthearted reactions to other members jokingly disrupt his carefully arranged belongings. SEONGHWA’s attention to detail and caring demeanor fosters a harmonious living environment for ATEEZ as the eldest member and also endears him to fans who appreciate his nurturing and responsible attitude.

Enthusiasm Beyond the Music

Beyond his interest in music and fashion, SEONGHWA is also an avid collector of Star Wars memorabilia and LEGO sets. He shares his other passions with fans as well, indulging in three-hour YouTube lives to build new LEGO sets or to show off the latest additions to his “Animal Crossing” island. His comfort to candidly share his interests beyond the idol lifestyle is a testament to the warm and welcoming relationship SEONGHWA has created with ATINY. With communication tools like YouTube Live or the messaging app TOKTOQ, fans have been given a glimpse into his virtual and personal world. SEONGHWA even occasionally visits ATINY “Animal Crossing” islands or compliments ATEEZ-inspired elements in the game, fostering a sense of camaraderie and connection through shared interests.

MARS’ ASMR

Adding onto the stack of hobbies SEONGHWA has, he can also be accredited as a YouTube ASMR creator, if you’re being technical. Through the ATEEZ official YouTube channel, he curated his own series of ASMR videos, called MARS ASMR. Launched during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown, SEONGHWA used items related to the video’s ASMR theme to put watchers and listeners at ease. Yes, ATEEZ’s music is boisterous and energetic, but MARS ASMR showcased the eldest member’s calmer side and his ability to heal others.

Beyond his own content, SEONGHWA has made appearances on popular Korean YouTube channels like Soy ASMR, further solidifying his interest and skill in the realm of sensory relaxation. Although it’s been a long time since his last MARS ASMR video, SEONGHWA’s interest in ASMR hasn’t wavered. He continues to demonstrate his skill during live streams, providing engaged fans with temporary auditory satisfaction.

On a Sentimental Note

SEONGHWA’s deep-seated sentimentality and profound affection for ATEEZ fans are at the core of his persona. He often expresses his love and gratitude through heartfelt gestures, from writing love letters on his birthday to releasing heartwarming song covers. His empathetic nature and deep emotional connection to fans run deeply in the hearts of those supporting the group, strengthening their bond.

SEONGHWA also expresses his emotions openly, a defining trait that draws outsiders into his way of caring. He allows himself to feel and express freely, whether it’s shedding tears of joy when moved by the kindness of his fellow members or being touched by heartfelt fan projects during concerts. As an ENFJ personality type, SEONGHWA’s intuitive and empathetic nature has enabled him to navigate and embrace the full spectrum of emotions with maturity and insight, marking him the shoulder to lean on, for members and fans alike.

Happy April! You know what that means — it’s almost Coachella season! Yesteryears of Coachellas past have seen memorable performances from Beyoncé’s historical headlining set in 2018 to the iconic reunion of second-generation K-pop girl group 2NE1 in 2022. Coachella 2024’s lineup is filled with an eclectic range of artists, but we’re especially looking forward to the Asian acts from across the globe.

This year, the performers range from powerhouse K-pop group ATEEZ and Vocaloid character Hatsune Miku to R&B icon Jhené Aiko and many more. You can catch them all performing across two back-to-back weekends in April. Whether you’re gearing up for a weekend to remember in Indio, California, or searching for more artists to add to your playlist, Team EnVi has got you covered with this year’s must-see Asian artists at Coachella!

ATEEZ (April 12 & 19)

In 2018, the eight-member K-pop boy group ATEEZ embarked on an adventure of a lifetime — and with each year passing, it only continues to get more exciting. Dubbed K-pop’s resident pirates following their debut lead singles “Treasure” and “Pirate King,” it’s no surprise that the group is determined to leave their mark across the world. This year’s conquest? Being the first K-pop boy group to take the stage at Coachella.

“8 makes 1 team!” That’s the motto for HONGJOONG, SEONGHWA, YUNHO, YEOSANG, SAN, MINGI, WOOYOUNG, and JONGHO. And it’s that fierce camaraderie that has led to ATEEZ’s ever-growing global success and dedicated fanbase, ATINY. From being nominated for Artist of the Year at the 2019 MAMA Awards — a notable feat for being rookies — to debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with their latest LP, THE WORLD EP. FIN : WILL, ATEEZ outdo themselves time and time again.

They are also acclaimed for their first-rate performances and commitment to storytelling, something festival goers can surely look forward to during their Coachella set. In 2021, ATEEZ put their skills to the test as they went head-to-head with some of the most prominent performers in the K-pop industry as part of the reality survival show Kingdom: Legendary War. But they went above and beyond by including their lore in each of their performance stages, which eventually earned them third place in the competition overall.

Popular tracks that you can hope to hear on their Coachella setlist may be anything from energetic dubstep-influenced track “HALAZIA” (a direct callback to ATEEZ’s 2019 hit “HALA HALA (Hearts Awakened, Live Alive)”) to the anarchist cyberpunk song “Guerrilla.” Other contenders include the experimental yet delightfully boisterous bop “BOUNCY (K-HOT CHILLI PEPPERS)” and the dancehall, Afro-beat-influenced earworm “Crazy Form.” If you find you just can’t get enough of ATEEZ’s music and their impressive performances, the group has also teased their upcoming 2024 world tour “TOWARDS THE LIGHT : WILL TO POWER,” which they kicked off earlier in Seoul. Make sure to check out ATEEZ at Coachella 2024 on April 12 and 19 — you won’t want to miss this historic set!

SAINT LEVANT (April 13 & 20)

Saint Levant can be described as many things but the one thing that shines the brightest through him and his music is his love for heritage. Coming from a mixed background of Palestinian, Algerian, French and Serbian heritage, these influences pour into his songs. The multilingual rapper began his career during the pandemic on TikTok making videos on the history of Palestine, which lead to his first single in the same year, “Jerusalem Freestyle.”

From there began a whirlwind career over the past three years, earning Saint Levant’s place as a prominent figure in the MENA pop industry. Kickstarting his momentum with tracks like “Nails,” and “Very Few Friends,” Levant quickly garnered attention for his distinctive sound and introspective lyrics. His music, characterized by infectious melodies and thoughtful storytelling, resonated with audiences across the region.

Coachella marks the beginning of Saint Levant’s 2024 performances in the festival circuit. He canceled his first tour, “From Gaza, With Love,” late last year to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people. After his two weekends in the valley you can catch him at Governors Ball in NYC alongside fellow Coachella performers Peso Pluma and Tyla, as well as the Rosendal Garden Party in Stockholm, Sweden in June.

YOASOBI (April 12 & 19)

YOASOBI are no strangers to the music festival scene. The J-pop duo, composed of producer-songwriter Ayase and singer-songwriter Ikura, are making a name for themselves worldwide. Despite having only debuted in late 2019, they have performed at renowned music festivals such as Clockenflap, Head In The Clouds, Rock in Japan, and SUMMER SONIC — and it was just announced they’re set to attend Lollapalooza this summer. They also opened for British rock band Coldplay for the sold-out dates of their “Music of the Spheres World Tour” at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. So if you’re wondering who you shouldn’t miss at Coachella this year, it is definitely the coveted rising stars YOASOBI.

Sometimes the universe brings people together unexpectedly, and that was the case when it came to the conception of YOASOBI. In an interview with PAPER Magazine, it was explained that Ayase stumbled upon Ikura online when searching for a vocalist to feature on an upcoming project of his. In late 2019, they ended up releasing their debut single “Yori ni Kakeru,” which translates to “Racing into the Night,” and quickly rose to stardom. “Yori ni Kakeru” was such a success that it ended up securing the No. 1 spot on Billboard Japan’s cumulative Hot 100 of the Year chart.

The duo brings storytelling to another level through their music. NYLON explained, “Their tracks are inspired by fiction published on monogatary.com, a hub for aspiring writers online.” And the results serve as a reminder that popular music is not solely bound to one sound or genre, but rather, it’s ever-changing. More than anything, YOASOBI can be relied on for tracks with impressive vocals from Ikura and a compelling composition by Ayase. The power the duo holds when working together is exactly why they’re sought after by everything from music festivals to major anime soundtracks — the most notable being “Idol” for the anime Oshi no Ko. With an impressive track record and exemplary catalog so early into their careers, you won’t want to miss your chance to see why YOASOBI is all the rage!

LE SSERAFIM (April 13 & 20)

LE SSERAFIM, whose name is an anagram for “I’m fearless,” will make sure you have a perfect night at this year’s Coachella. Since their debut in 2022, LE SSERAFIM have released several bangers that have a hallmark touch setting them apart from others. From their bold anti-drop debut single “FEARLESS” to the funky hip-hop hit “UNFORGIVEN (feat. Nile Rodgers),” the girls flaunt their confidence through their music while pushing the bounds of pop.

Members YUNJIN, CHAEWON, SAKURA, KAZUHA, and EUNCHAE can proudly claim to be the K-pop girl group with the highest-selling album in Hanteo history for first-day sales with their first LP UNFORGIVEN — a notable feat in the quintet’s career. But their presence and power within the music industry does not stop there. Their debut EP FEARLESS earned them a No.1 spot on the iTunes Top Albums chart in 13 countries. Meanwhile, their second EP, ANTIFRAGILE, saw their first debut on the Billboard 200 chart. Taking the world by storm, LE SSERAFIM took things to the next level with their all-English collaboration with Overwatch 2. Despite being a collaboration, “Perfect Night” made its mark on Melon’s Top 100 chart as the first English-language song by a K-pop girl group to top the chart.

LE SSERAFIM make breaking records and earning accolades look EASY. Their latest EP of the same title landed them their debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, along with a No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart. But the girls are not just some overnight sensation — they have put in the work to get where they are now. Members SAKURA and CHAEWON were previously groupmates in former K-pop girl group IZ*ONE; meanwhile, YUNJIN competed on the survival audition show Produce 48. YUNJIN’s strong vocals come from her background in musical theater, and KAZUHA’s graceful dance skills are thanks to her lifelong dedication to ballet

You won’t want to miss out on seeing what this fearless sensation of a girl group is all about on April 13 and 20!

THUY (April 13 & 20)

Vietnamese-American R&B artist Thuy is someone to look out for. The 29-year-old has not only garnered attention for her music but for sharing her story about pursuing her dreams. The Bay Area singer-songwriter (and her story of courage and patience) is an inspiration for many up-and-coming artists. Shortly after quitting her optometry job, Thuy moved to Los Angeles to become a full-time musician. In 2015, the artist gained attention when her track “Hands on Me” won a radio competition in the Bay Area. Before long, her big break came on TikTok when her R&B track “All Night Long” went viral three years after its debut in 2018. The sensual track’s popularity was just the beginning for Thuy.

TikTok continued to change this powerhouse’s life with her 2021 tracks such as “In my bag” and “universe” being loved by the internet. The saccharine love song, “universe,”  stitched with endless romance stories on TikTok was written about her true love — her dog. She continues to outdo herself, garnering more attention and performing on bigger and greater stages. In 2022, Thuy was invited to perform at 88rising’s Head in The Clouds Music Festival. Now flash forward to 2024, she is set to be the first Vietnamese singer to perform at Coachella. 2024 continues to be full of milestones for the soloist. In March, she was a headliner for Jaded’s 2024 FRIENDS:FOREVER showcase at the annual SXSW (South by Southwest) festival, one of the most renowned film and music festivals in the United States. Don’t miss out on her groundbreaking Coachella stage on April 13 and 20.

ATARASHII GAKKO! (April 14 & 21)

With their band name translating to “New School Leaders,” members Suzuka, Mizyu, Rin, and Kanon debuted in 2015 with an edgy and fierce sound despite their young image. In 2020, the Japanese girl group ATARASHII GAKKO! made their international debut at 88rising‘s Head in the Clouds festival with their single “NAINAINAI.” With an unpredictable performance style and sound, the group introduced festival attendees to new sides of themselves and Japan. ATARASHII GAKKO! has successfully experimented with an array of genres including rock, hip-hop, and dance. From techno hit “Freaks” — which features Japan’s national sport of sumo wrestling in its music video — to retro track “OTONABLUE,” this girl group proves they can do it all. One of their most iconic singles, “Tokyo Calling,” pays homage to the Showa era of film and tokusatsu visual effects. This bass-heavy, rock track has garnered over 9.9 million views on YouTube and 6.2 million streams on Spotify in just under six months.

Embracing themes of youthful rebellion, the group has their eyes on one thing and one thing only: breaking the expectations of being a female J-pop group. Impassioned with girl power, they adorn their seifuku — Japanese school uniforms — as outfits to fight stereotypes about femininity. Taking control of their vision, the group even goes as far as choreographing their routines, creating a unique signature that could only scream ATARASHII GAKKO!

In late October 2023, the group sold out their first solo arena concert at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. But the world is their oyster and the girl group is setting out on their first world tour with stops across Europe, Asia, and more destinations to be revealed in the future. On their way to becoming global superstars, don’t miss your chance to say you saw ATARASHII GAKKO! at Coachella 2024!

AP DHILLON (April 14 & 21)

Indo-Canadian musician AP Dhillon is the dominating force in Punjabi music, blending traditional folk melodies with trap beats to captivate listeners. Hailing from Gurdaspur, India, Dhillon stormed onto the music scene in 2019. Now, five years later and boasting over 10 million monthly listeners just on Spotify and a sold out North American arena tour, he will be making his Coachella debut. A long time coming, his set, as well as fellow Indo-Canadian NAV’s set, comes a year after Diljit Dosanjh’s history making full Punjabi language performance.

Alongside his frequent collaborators Gurinder Gill, Shinda Kahlon, and Gminxr, Dhillon’s string of viral hits including “Brown Munde,” “Excuses,” and “Summer High” has cemented the collective (Run-Up Records) as bonafide diasporic stars. He even received cosigns from legendary artists like rapper Nas, who came on stage to declare Dhillon the “newest, greatest artist in the motherf**king world.” Dhilloon’s latest track “Problems Over Peace,” which he collaborated with UK rapping heavyweight, Stormzy on, is an addictive song sure to be heard during the Coachella performance.

Known for his ability to experiment, Dhillon’s music and videos (that he often films and edits himself) tend to reflect his roots, incorporating vibrant Punjabi imagery alongside urban aesthetics. “I grew up listening to a lot of different styles of music. It was Sufi music from even Pakistan, or neighbouring countries, and music from India. That inspired me to make this sound that I have,” he told Billboard Canada in an interview last spring. You can hear his range of musical influences in his diverse music collection. For example, “Final Thoughts” is a hard-hitting, trap-heavy rap track for the hip hop heads, while “Dil Nu” has a more laidback pop vibe to it. Both tracks appear on his 2022 EP Two Hearts Never Break The Same. AP Dhillon champions a new wave of Punjabi music authentic to his ever-growing fanbase by challenging stereotypes and embracing his dual identity. Coachella attendees can expect a great time during his set both weekends!

THE ROSE  (April 14 & 21)

South Korean indie-rock band The Rose have been quite busy trekking across the globe. From Life is Beautiful to BST Hyde Park to many Lollapalooza sets and more, the quartet seems to be unstoppable. Woosung, Dojoon, Hajoon, and Jaehyeong have worked with the utmost persistence during their time as a band — and now they’re in full bloom. In the summer of 2017, the band made their debut with the dynamic yet melancholic single “Sorry,” and they were immediately met with love from listeners worldwide. “Sorry” debuted at No.14 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart, and this would not be the last time The Rose was showered with such adoration. In fact, the group’s latest LP DUAL landed the band the No.1 spot on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart, as well as positions on the Top Alternative Albums, Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Albums, and Billboard 200 charts.

From the gut-wrenchinghingly vulnerable rock ballad “She’s In The Rain” to the feel-good romantic hit “RED,” versatility is never a question for the band. What truly makes The Rose so unique is their dedication to crafting music that feels authentic and will resonate with their fans — Black Roses. The Rose’s 2022 LP HEAL is rooted in the idea that music has the ability to heal, and they even requested their fans to assist them in the writing process by sharing their own personal stories with the band. Music can be quite cathartic, but The Rose have proven this time and time again with their discography’s introspective lyricism.

As Coachella approaches, one can only wonder what The Rose will bring to their latest festival stage. Strong contenders range anywhere from the angsty breakup anthem “Back To Me” or the synth-laden heartbreak confessional “Sour.” Also known for their emotionally captivating stage presence, the quartet are a must-see act on April 14 and 21.

HATSUNE MIKU (April 13 & 20)

Debuting with a moniker that translates to “First Sound from the Future,” virtual singer Hatsune Miku emerged onto the music scene in 2007. Initially created by Crypton Future Media as part of the Vocaloid software series, which allowed users to synthesize singing by typing in lyrics and melody, Hatsune Miku has grown into a holographic superstar. With nearly two million monthly listeners on Spotify and hundreds of millions of views on YouTube, her popularity and pioneering role in the Vocaloid community have solidified her as an influential figure in the realm of virtual music and digital culture.

She made her international concert debut in 2011 at the “Mikunopolis” concert in Los Angeles, captivating audiences with holographic performances and catchy tunes. Originally slated to perform at Coachella in 2020 before it was canceled, this year marks her highly anticipated debut at the desert festival, fulfilling the anticipation of fans who have eagerly awaited her appearance.

Tracks like “World is Mine” and “Tell Your World” resonate with audiences worldwide, earning her a dedicated fanbase known as Mikuists. She expanded her discography by collaborating with a range of artists including Ashnikko on viral song “Daisy 2.0” and with Saramalacara on “10percs.” However, in addition to the popular fan-favorites, fans of the vocaloid can look forward to hearing something new at the festival. When asked what fans can expect to see during the Coachella set, one of Hatsune Miku’s software developers, Riki Tsuji, told the Coachella Valley Independent, “We have some new things in store, so we hope we’re able to not just bring the hits and have fans enjoy what they know, but maybe a couple of surprises that they didn’t see coming.”

Whether selling out arenas or attending major music festivals, Hatsune Miku continues to redefine the boundaries of music and technology, inspiring a new generation of creators and fans alike.

JHENÉ AIKO (April 14 & 21)

Jhené Aiko, the ethereal songstress hailing from Los Angeles, has carved a niche for herself in the music industry with her soulful blend of R&B, neo-soul, and alternative sounds. Coming from a mixed background of Black and Japanese heritage, her career spans two decades with a bountiful amount of influences from soul to pop to hip-hop. She burst onto the scene as a soloist with her critically acclaimed mixtape Sailing Soul(s) in 2011. Two years later, she followed up with the EP Sail Out and culminated in the release of her debut studio album Souled Out in 2014. Framed as a trilogy series, the releases earned Aiko her first GRAMMY nominations and shot her into stardom with breakout tracks “The Worst,” “Bed Peace,” and “Spotless Mind.” She also has collaborated with the likes of Childish Gambino, Miguel, and Kendrick Lamar. Aiko’s music delves into themes of love and sexuality, self-discovery, and spirituality, which resonate with a global audience.

Throughout her career, Aiko has captivated audiences with her haunting vocals and poignant storytelling, earning both critical acclaim and a devoted fan base. Baring her soul and inner-thoughts in every song, Aiko’s relatability has kept her at the top of the R&B charts. Aiko continued to evolve as an artist, releasing the critically acclaimed album Trip in 2017. Inspired by personal experiences, grief, and psychedelic influences, the album and its breakout tracks, “Sativa” (Aiko’s most streamed song to date) and “While We’re Young,” further cemented her reputation for crafting immersive, emotionally resonant music. She followed up these achievements with early 2020 album Chilombo, which housed viral track “P*$$Y Fairy.”

In addition to her solo endeavors, Jhené Aiko found success as one half of the duo TWENTY88, alongside rapper and partner Big Sean. The duo’s self-titled debut album, released in 2016, was met with widespread acclaim for its innovative sound and cohesive storytelling. Combining Aiko’s light and airy vocals with Big Sean’s dynamic lyricism, TWENTY88 explored themes of love, relationships, and personal growth. Tracks like “Selfish” and “On the Way” showcased the duo’s chemistry and ability to create compelling narratives through their music.

Most recently, Aiko took a break to focus on her relationship and children as a mother of two. Coachella 2024 marks her return to the stage, a familiar home to her since she first performed there a decade ago in 2014. Attendees can expect to see a refreshed Aiko back in her element for the first time in years. But if you can’t catch her at the festival, you can see her on her “The Magic Hour” U.S. tour this summer.

SID SRIRAM (April 12 & 19)

Sid Sriram’s music is the epitome of the best of both worlds. Born in India and raised in California, Sriram offers a fresh blend of genres that stem from his love for the cultures he was raised in. His first all-English LP, Sidharth, was released in August 2023 and serves as a testament to the power he holds as an artist with a diverse cultural background.

From a young age, Sriram has been practicing the art of Carnatic music — a skill that was fostered by his mother, according to an interview with Chicago Reader. The influence of Carnatic music can be heard across his discography, such as in “Eyes Open,” with his intricate and powerful vocal abilities. But Sriram’s love for music is eclectic and is not bound to a single genre. When listening to Sriram’s discography, there is also a prevalent R&B influence from growing up in northern California. Tapping into a soulful sound with Sidharth track “Do The Dance,” Sriram showcases his vocal prowess and ability to encompass emotions with it.

Sid Sriram will take the stage at Coachella on April 12 and 19, just as he prepares to wrap up his “SIDHARTH Tour.” He even shared on Instagram that fans can look forward to a Sidharth-centric setlist, but promises there will be tracks that highlight his Carnatic and Bollywood soundtrack career as well. Whether you’re looking to incorporate some alt-R&B to your Coachella weekend or venture into something new, Sid Sriram’s set will be a one-of-a-kind experience you can’t miss!

TITA LAU (April 14 & 21)

What’s a great festival without an illustrious DJ set that will have your body and soul connecting with the music? Coachella understands that EDM is an ever-growing, expansive, boundary-pushing genre that is essentially the “pulse” of music today. The festival has featured plenty of DJs and electronic music acts over the last decade or so, but this year, festival goers can catch the emerging powerhouse of an act that is Tita Lau.

Tita Lau is a DJ and producer of British and Hong Kong heritage, with a knack for incorporating her powerful vocals into her original tracks. After beginning her exploration with an ex-boyfriend’s DJ equipment, Lau quickly realized that this was something she wanted to pursue. What began as a new endeavor eventually blossomed into the kick of her career. Since then, Lau’s releases have seen success on Beatport, as well as landing on Spotify’s Housewerk playlist.

As Coachella weekend approaches, if you’re looking to dive into Tita Lau’s music, you can dig into her Soundcloud and explore her sonic expansion over the years. You can also stream her latest release, “The Madonna (Feels Like),” now — a track that is quite likely to be featured during her set. You can catch Tita Lau bringing an immense amount of energy to Coachella’s Sahara tent on April 14 and 21!

NAV (April 14 & 21)

This year will see the return of Canadian Indian rapper NAV — seven years after he made his Coachella debut. The Toronto-based artist is well-known for his hard-hitting lyrics throughout his discography, such as the romantic confession “Don’t Compare” or the sentimental, introspective “Why You Crying Mama.” Since NAV last took the Coachella stage, he’s collected quite a few accolades underneath his belt. NAV has had a total of three albums that debuted at the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart — the most recent being his 2022 LP Demons Protected By Angels

If you think you haven’t heard of NAV yet, we beg to differ. Last summer, NAV was featured on Metro Boomin’s soundtrack for Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse alongside rappers A Boogie Wit da Hoodie and Swae Lee. “Calling” is now the second most-streamed track of the film’s soundtrack on Spotify with over 219 million streams to date, bringing NAV’s artistry to both film and music fans alike.

His most recent single “Baller” was released in early November last year, and since then, NAV has garnered over 10 million streams on Spotify. Both “Baller” and his Spider-Verse hit “Calling” could be contenders for his upcoming Coachella sets. This year he will be taking over the Sahara tent on April 14 and 21. Make sure to swing by NAV’s set for an energetic set that will resonate with your soul!

DJ PEGGY GOU (April 12 & 19)

Peggy Gou, a South Korean DJ and producer, burst onto the electronic music scene in the mid-2010s, quickly gaining recognition for her innovative DJ-ing and music production approach. In 2016, she made waves with her debut EP Art of War, which showcased her ability to blend house and techno elements with intricate percussion. The release established Gou as a rising star in the global electronic music industry.

Building on that momentum, she embarked on a steady touring schedule with DJ sets at renowned clubs and festivals worldwide. In 2018, Gou played Coachella for the first time, which served as an international breakthrough for her. She soon became a festival circuit favorite with performances at other prestigious festivals such as Barcelona’s Primavera Sound, and London’s Glastonbury.

Her track “It Makes You Forget (Itgehane),” released through her label Gudu Records, became an instant EDM hit. In it, Gou blends deep house grooves with her vocals in Korean, something she continued to implement with more songs like “Han Jan.” She explained her choice to record in Korean to Wonderland Magazine by saying, “I just wanted to do something different.” After a flurry of EP releases, including 2018’s Once and 2020’s Moment, Gou then collaborated with international superstars like South Korean singer OHHYUK, Australian pop royalty Kylie Minogue, and American rocker Lenny Kravitz

But it was 2023’s dance floor anthem “(It Goes Like) Nanana” that marked a new peak for Gou, becoming her most streamed song to date and a mainstay in her DJ sets. The song features her signature blend of house and techno influences with catchy melodies and infectious rhythms. “(It Goes Like) Nanana” is characterized by its groovy bassline, synths, and catchy hook, which consists of the repeated phrase “nanana.”

Gou’s long-awaited debut studio album, I Hear You, is on the way, slated for a June 2024 release. She just dropped her latest single from the album, “1+1=11” in anticipation for Coachella, which she will be returning to for the third time. You can also catch Gou on the international festival circuit through the rest of the year.

JOPLYN (April 14 & 21)

Independent electronic producer and singer JOPLYN is an artist you should be keeping your eyes on this year — especially at this year’s festival. Based in Berlin with a multinational background, the German Vietnamese Canadian artist is determined to make waves in the music industry as she pursues her craft. From a young age, JOPLYN found herself immersed in the arts, ranging anywhere from writing poetry to creating her own melodies.

Aside from creating her own music, JOPLYN has gone above and beyond to cement her place in the music industry by creating her own record label, NONE OF THE ABOVE BERLIN. She’s a force to be reckoned with — aware of the inequality that is prevalent in the music industry, but especially in the electronic genre. In an interview with Electronic Groove, she expressed that she wanted to work toward seeing more diversity within the industry. JOPLYN explained, “If you look at the numbers – ca. 23% of all artists are women, 14% are songwriters, and 2% are producers in Billboard’s Hot 100 Year End chart – it’s crazy. And I would even argue that if you focus specifically on the electronic music scene those numbers get even lower. I’m always the only woman at the artist dinner, on line-ups, and in business meetings.”

But JOPLYN isn’t one to shy away or back down in the face of adversity. With a headstrong attitude, she continues to pursue her career and harnesses the power she has as an independent artist to pave the way for a more inclusive industry. On April 5, she dropped her latest single “MOMENT,” a track which the artist holds dear to her heart. With fresh music and energy, JOPLYN’s stage at Coachella will surely be something you won’t want to miss!

Jen Mana, a promising, up-and-coming singer, is carving out her place in the music scene as she makes waves online. The R&B-pop artist’s journey to recognition flourished through years of going viral on TikTok for her voice, gaining over four million likes on the platform. Mana’s song “situationship” acquired over 21,000 streams on Spotify, following its popularity on TikTok. The momentum pushed the 20-year-old to audition for season 21 of American Idol, where she successfully advanced to the second round of Hollywood Week. Jen Mana hopped on a Zoom call with EnVi to discuss her songwriting, her experience on American Idol, and her latest single “you still.”

On the Rise

Growing up, Mana’s aspirations stretched far beyond the bounds of the many local talent shows she participated in as a child. She reminisced on her lifelong passion for singing, her voice tinged with nostalgia, “It had to be one of those [local talent show] performances where I walked off and was like, ‘You know, I want to be more than just a kid in a talent show, and try to do my own thing.’” Her ambitions, rooted in childhood dreams of stardom, blossomed. “I was always the girl that was like, ‘I want to be a pop star. I just want to sing anywhere.’ If I wanted to be a nurse, I wanted to be a singing nurse,” Mana shared.

From those early aspirations sprouted a journey of self-discovery and musical exploration. Mana took the reins, learning how to play the piano at a young age through formal lessons and YouTube tutorials. While she also dabbled in guitar, she said it was the ukulele that captured her heart.

Despite the buzz she is creating as a rising, independent artist, Mana remains humble, acknowledging the long road ahead in her pursuit of becoming the pop star she’s always dreamed of. “At the point where I am now, I think the biggest step that I [took] from singing alone in my room or just around the house was getting myself out there in terms of performances and making those connections,” Mana said.

Like many emerging artists, Mana found a stage for her talents on social media. Amidst the 2020 pandemic, she became active on TikTok and mesmerized viewers with song covers. From covers of “Rain” by SWV to “I See Red” by Everybody Loves an Outlaw, and even participating in a challenge mirroring Beyoncé’s live performance of “Ego,” Mana’s follower count skyrocketed — a testament to the power of digital platforms in shaping modern entertainment.

“Social media has so much power in this world. I would post videos that were less than a minute, and a few of those got traction,” Mana shared with EnVi. “I think that was what really helped me get to this point, or at least in front of the opportunities that I’ve gotten with entertainment and the music scene.”

Mana’s pivotal breakthrough with her original music arrived when her single “situationship” gained traction on TikTok in 2021, where it gained 80 thousand likes for a post with a raw voice recording of the track. The R&B song was officially released on streaming platforms a year later, to the delight of hundreds of fans on TikTok. “situationship” resonated with audiences worldwide, the lyrics striking a chord of familiarity for many, as Mana sang about being in a complicated relationship. “I like the fact that a lot of people found ‘situationship’ relatable,” Mana reflected. “I think that was something — a comment — that I heard and was just very satisfied with. I was like, ‘I reached somebody,’ you know, ‘I’m screaming with somebody in the car.’”

Her subsequent release, “leave it at that,” delved deeper into the R&B-pop realm, showcasing Mana’s range as an artist. Drawing inspiration from iconic figures like Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston, she infuses her music with soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Mana is also inspired by modern R&B artists such as Jazmine Sullivan, H.E.R, Summer Walker, and SZA. She believes that “a big part of making music is listening to it.”

For Mana, storytelling lies at the core of her musical identity. “I think the more and more originals that I put out, I would like to set the tone of a storyteller or just somebody who can make people feel things,” the 20-year old revealed.

“you still”

Jen Mana proves herself as a storyteller with her latest release “you still,” drawing inspiration from a friend of her’s experiences in modern relationships. With lyrics that capture the relatable uncertainty of love in today’s world, where mixed signals and conflicting emotions prevail, Mana shapes a narrative that resonates with listeners.

“you still” stemmed from a fortuitous collaboration with producer Nick Pedraza, known by his alias napbass, who sent Mana a beat that reignited her creative spark. Mana found herself effortlessly weaving together lyrics for the track, while escaping from writer’s block. The single’s infectious beats, catchy hook, and dash of ’80s nostalgia reveal Mana’s sheer joy when making music.

Despite typically gravitating towards R&B, Mana embraced the opportunity to explore new artistic territory with napbass, dipping her toes into ’80s synth-pop. Their shared passion for retro vibes led to the creation of a track that not only grooves but also begs to be performed live — a factor that Mana had in mind when working on the song. “It’s not what I typically write or put out,” Mana said. “It’s just working with napbass — he kind of helped me experiment a little bit and I think that everyone should do that. It’s good to have a niche and have a genre that you’re very passionate about. But it’s always okay to have fun with music.”

Venturing into more uncharted territory, Mana embarked on her first music video production. She collaborated with a talented team led by director Melissa Tipiani and brought her vision to life, complementing the song’s upbeat energy with visuals that capture the essence of youthful enthusiasm and solidarity. The video follows Mana and her friends on a spirited girls’ night, attempting to distract her from a recent fight or breakup with her significant other. Despite their efforts to erase him from her mind, Mana finds herself unable to resist the allure of his presence. Culminating in a humorous yet relatable ending that speaks to the complexities of modern dating, she ultimately chooses to ditch her friends and hop into the boy’s car.

“When [Tipiani] pitched that ending to me, we just kind of laughed for a couple minutes. We just thought it was very funny and very [representative] of the dating in this generation,” Mana laughed. “It’s just what happens typically after complaining like that. It’s an embarrassing situation that people go through but it happens. It happens to the best of us.”

An American Idol

In the world of reality television, few experiences rival the intensity and excitement of competing on a talent show. For emerging talent Jen Mana, her journey on the iconic singing competition American Idol proved to be a rollercoaster of emotions, challenges and invaluable lessons.

Recalling her nerve-wracking audition, Mana candidly admits, “I was so nervous that during the audition in front of the judges, I just froze.” She continued, clarifying, “Not necessarily froze, but it kind of felt like a dream. And I know that sounds very corny, but that’s exactly what it felt like.” The sheer magnitude of the moment, standing before industry giants such as Lionel Richie and Katy Perry, left her feeling both exhilarated and apprehensive. Despite the overwhelming nerves, Mana drew strength from the adrenaline coursing through her veins, pushing her forward in pursuit of her dreams.

Through the whirlwind of emotions, Mana found solace in the words of the judges. During a heartfelt interaction, Perry pointed out Mana’s nervous demeanor, finding it surprising given the rising star’s exceptional vocal talent. Mana expressed gratitude for being recognized as more than just her nerves, emphasizing the significance of receiving such validation, especially from Perry. She continued, “I left the room, and I was like, ‘I think something needs to change. I think I need to get in front of more stages because, ultimately, she was right. I feel like a lot of my performances are held back because of me — not really because of anyone else. Because the nerves are very much still there, I still have my insecurities when it comes to performing. But at the end of the day, I’m doing it because I love it, not because I need the validation for it, or the approval.”

Through triumphs and tribulations alike, Mana discovered the true extent of her resilience and inner strengths. She shared that the hardest part of her experience on American Idol was leaving. “I think with the hardest parts of anything, it teaches you the most, and it nails the really hard lessons through to you,” Mana said. “Regardless of [how] it was, it was fun. And it was just a way to dip my toes into what the industry is like, or at least just be in front of the cameras.”

As Mana continues to pursue her musical aspirations, her American Idol journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of perseverance, courage, and self-belief.

Connecting with Fans

For Jen Mana, the thrill of performing isn’t just about taking the stage; it’s about the intimate connection forged with her audience. Recalling the electrifying experience of having fans sing her lyrics back to her, she enthused, “It’s so cool to perform in front of a crowd that just knows who you are, knows what you’re about to do.” Her journey into the spotlight began with humble performances at small campus events. It was there that Mana first tasted the magic of having her audience join in, turning her lyrics into a shared anthem. While dreaming of bigger stages and broader audiences, she cherishes these moments as stepping stones toward her aspirations.

Yet, Mana’s relationship with performing hasn’t always been smooth sailing. “Performing was not always easy for me,” she admits, acknowledging her struggles with confidence. As a child, performing just meant singing in front of family and friends, lacking the weight and significance it holds today. Over time, Mana’s perspective shifted and performing became a profound expression of her artistry. Despite the lingering nerves and occasional bouts of self-doubt, Mana embraces each performance with a heart full of gratitude. “It’s still in-process,” she acknowledged, recognizing that growth takes time. Now, each performance highlights her progress and resilience.

Central to Mana’s character is her deep appreciation for her fans. Each performance is not just an opportunity to showcase her talent, but a chance to reciprocate the love and enthusiasm of those who have supported her along the way. Their unwavering support serves as a source of inspiration and motivation, driving her to new heights in her artistic endeavors.

What’s Next?

As Mana gears up for the release of her upcoming song “every part” with napbass on April 19, she left us with some inspiring words. Reflecting on her own journey and the challenges of breaking into the industry, she offered a message of encouragement to aspiring musicians everywhere. “The most important thing is just deciding, ‘Okay, this is what I want to do’ and the rest will follow through from there,” Mana said. “So, I believe that if you’re a college student or if you’re in high school or you’re only comfortable with singing in the shower, if you really love it and you want to get there, there is definitely a possibility for you.”

Jen Mana’s message is clear: Follow your dreams, embrace your passion, and take that first step.

Alongside the announcement of her debut album, I Hear You (out this June), the South Korean and Berlin-based DJ unveiled her single “1+1=11” on April 4. The instrumental track recalls ‘90s dream house with its inviting melody and vibrant drum pattern, expanding Gou’s nostalgic sound palette and setting the tone for the anticipated festival season lying ahead.

Accompanying the single and adding to its theme of togetherness is the music video, featuring Icelandic-Danish artist, and Gou’s friend, Olafur Eliasson. The latter dances inside a light installation at his studio in Berlin, moving across beams of multicolored light from different projectors and creating overlapping shadows and silhouettes. Eliasson’s interest in breakdancing as a teenager came to be defining to his work which plays with perception, movement and embodied experience. The artist also collaborated with Gou on the striking album cover where she is pictured wearing one of his pieces, as well as on the opening track where the DJ will be reciting a poem Eliasson wrote. I Hear You’s tracklist is set to feature massive hits such as last year’s(It Goes Like) Nanana” and the Lenny Kravitz duet “I Believe In Love Again.”

THE BOYZ – “Electric Energy (Reimagination)”

Following a record of spy-related hits — such as singles “The Stealer” and “WATCH IT” or B-side “Espionage” — THE BOYZ are onto their next sonic mission. Members Jacob and Kevin slid into action with their suave rendition of “Electric Energy” — originally performed by Ariana DeBose, Boy George, and Nile Rodgers as part of the original soundtrack for Argylle. Through the collaborative efforts of TITAN CONTENT, IST Entertainment, MARV, and PLATOON, THE BOYZ were able to add their touch to “Electric Energy” nearly two months after the film’s release. Argylle director Matthew Vaughn shared in a press release, “… I wanted to find a group to re-imagine [“Electric Energy”] for fans of a genre of music that my kids love. Once I was introduced to the phenomenon known as THE BOYZ I knew they would inject our track with an entirely different brand of ‘energy.’”

With visionary transformations, such as the group’s cover of VIXX’s “Shangri-La” for Road to Kingdom, it is no surprise that THE BOYZ spun a groovy disco track into a dramatic, orchestral ballad. Composer and record producer Lorne Balfe collaborated with music producer Stuart Price to add newfound cinematic depth to the track. Both Jacob and Kevin harnessed their distinctive vocal timbres to elevate the soul-stirring nature of “Electric Energy.” With an invigorating key change, THE BOYZ revitalized the track from top to bottom. Ever so grateful, Kevin explained, “It was such an honor to be a part of a project on such a wide scale. Jacob and I were very lucky to be able to work with talented and passionate people.” Agreeing with his fellow groupmate, Jacob shared, “It was an honor to be a part of this… We got to meet many great people, and they made the process very comfortable, so I am thankful. I hope that this ‘Electric Energy (Reimagination)’ will get lots of love as well!”

Arthur Nery – “Segundo, Siguro”

OPM (Original Pinoy Music) is on the rise, and one of the latest icons of the genre is Arthur Nery. Tapping into a more R&B vibe, Nery harnesses his vocals to draw listeners into his music. That very same sway has resulted in him landing multiple tracks on Apple Music’s Top 100: Philippines playlist. On March 23, Nery released his latest single “Segundo, Siguro” — and it is a marker of his continuous growth as an artist. Just two weeks after its release, “Segundo, Siguro” has already racked up over a million streams on Spotify and climbed to the No. 5 spot on Spotify’s Daily Top Artists Philippines chart.

The mellow instrumentals add a dreaminess to the song, but it is Nery’s vocal abilities that steal the show. Flexing his vocal prowess, the richness in his tone can be heard from his baritone register to falsetto riffs, and everything else in between. If you’re a fan of R&B-centric artists like NCT’s JAEHYUN or ZAYN, you’ll definitely want to tune into “Segundo, Siguro” and check out the rest of Arthur Nery’s hits.

Yokkorio – “Can You Fix It”

Coming-of-age lyricism meets the dreamy sound of bedroom pop in Taiwanese indie singer-songwriter Yokkorio’s latest single, “Can You Fix It.”  Liao Yuwen, known by her stage name Yokkorio, wears many hats as a rising independent artist. Having been the composer, arranger, and producer of her own tracks, her music is an introspective reflection of life. In a press release, Yokkorio explained, “Music has taken me to many places, and accompanied me through wounds and healing. It will continue to show me the marvelousness of life…”

“Can You Fix It” dives headfirst into the identity of being a daughter while attempting to navigate adulthood and pave her own future. Yokkorio’s delicate vocals complement the laid-back instrumental of the track, creating a lightweight ambiance in contrast to the heavy tone of the lyrics. She gently captures the overbearing delicacy of daughterhood as she confesses, “Don’t go too far / There’s a sadness to be shared / But what for / Be silent, be quiet / No, she can’t wake / Those not awake.”

GloRilla And Megan Thee Stallion – “Wanna Be”

American rappers GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion have teamed up to release a scorching new anthem just in time for hot girl summer. Sampling Soulja Boy’s “Pretty Boy Swag,” the track exudes confidence and empowerment with GloRilla’s bold verses and Megan’s electrifying presence. Set against a lively house party in the music video, the duo’s lyrics showcase themes of independence and self-assurance, culminating in a fierce declaration of dominance.

GloRilla commands attention as she kicks off the track with her distinctive cadence, confidently asserting her independence. She playfully juxtaposes her man’s professed faithfulness while she’s got a roster. Though, she confesses, “I used to simp so hard but them my old ways.” Soon after, Megan jumps in with unapologetic swagger as she proudly proclaims her status as the baddest. She addresses the envy directed towards her, saying that those who now hate her were once eager to be her friend. In true Megan fashion, she seamlessly references the anime Attack on Titan, to declare she’s not just conquering but leaving a memorable mark.

Fans can catch both rappers on the “Hot Girl Summer Tour” starting in May.

Dena and JOYCE 就以斯 – “dumb af”

On April 5, Taiwanese singer-songwriters Dena and JOYCE 就以斯 dropped their first collaborative single, “dumb af.” Featuring a handwritten font reminiscent of Dena’s recent track “on read,” the cover image for “dumb af” captures the artistic energy of the two musicians. Both JOYCE and Dena wear sunglasses, as they lie down in the middle of the road. Dena takes charge of the “cool” image, while JOYCE leans into a humorous side, her face caught in an expression that is equal parts surprise and derp face. “Dumb af” combines the heart-on-her-sleeve storytelling of Taipei-based Dena with the free-spirited style of Taichung-based JOYCE, making an easy-listening earworm we all need on our playlists.

The single’s official announcement came only a few days in advance to its release. Fans of the artists might have noticed something was up when Dena posted a reel of her walk/running through the Taichung High Speed Rail station at the beginning of April. Dena overlaid the video of her eventually hugging JOYCE with English and Chinese saying, “Pov: finally seeing my LD lover in three months.” Their simultaneously chill and energetic synergy comes through their new track. Opening with a light electric guitar line, Dena and JOYCE’s smooth vocals complement the other’s while pulling in listeners with the upbeat rhythm of “dumb af.” In the track, they sing in both English and Mandarin of a love that keeps flip flopping between the cold December and “a hot girl summer.” Dena’s voice sounds far away and hazy as she closes the song with a phone call, emphasizing, “Oh my god, I’m never falling in love ever again.”

Bang Yongguk – “MOVIMIENTO”

It’s been ten months since South Korean rapper-singer-songwriter Bang Yongguk released an EP, but on March 31, he made his much-anticipated return. 3 is the artist’s third mini-album, a project that had been in the making for a while. But it doubles as a gift to fans from the former B.A.P legend, as 3 was released on his very own birthday. In a press release, Bang Yongguk gratefully expressed, “I would like to first say thank you to all my fans who gave me a lot of inspiration when I started working on the new album… I worked on this album with great joy, and I hope you’re able to resonate with that emotion while listening to this album.”

Yongguk ensured the six-track EP would be a personal project through and through. From having lyric, composition, and arrangement credits on each song to challenging his artistry by exploring new genres, 3 captures Yongguk’s abilities unlike anything else. One of the title tracks for the EP is “MOVIMIENTO” —- a rhythmic electronic track featuring Spanish lyrics and sonic influences. In the music video for the single, Yongguk can be seen matching the energy of “MOVIMIENTO” with his exemplary dance skills. With a lively groove, “MOVIMIENTO” will get you moving in no time!

Annabel Gutherz – “Shame”

Canadian singer-songwriter Annabel Gutherz added a new single to her vibrant discography on Friday. “Shame” takes its musical roots from classical rock woven with pop sounds. For this new track, Gutherz — who graduated with a master’s degree from Berklee College of Music — collaborated with Mikal Blue (OneRepublic, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat) and Bret “Epic” Mazur (Crazy Town, Prince, The Black Eyed Peas).

In “Shame,” Gutherz holds a place for listeners to express their relationship insecurities. Backed by a loose guitar and the singer’s fluid vocals, the untethered instrumental quality adds to the story she tells. Gutherz digs deep into her emotions, as she wonders about her lover’s former lover and constantly compares this ex to herself. However, Gutherz is self-aware about these insecurities and calls it a “shame” that she’s spending so much time thinking about these pointless comparisons. Yet, she acknowledges that these insecurities exist, singing, “I can’t seem to let go of your past.” “Shame” is a testament to Gutherz’s power as a musician to create “timeless music that speaks to the soul of what it means to be human” and provide a place where listeners can “feel seen and understood.”

RiTchie – “WYTD?!?!”

RiTchie, the American rapper known for his work with hip-hop group Injury Reserve and duo By Storm, shows off his versatile talents on his latest single “WYTD?!?!” off his debut solo album, Triple Digits [112]. The song is a vibrant fusion of rap and punk elements, featuring thunderous percussion and explosive riffs that inject an undeniable energy into the track. RiTchie’s signature style shines through with his dynamic delivery and memorable hooks, making “WYTD?!?!” a standout highlight on the album.

Through urgent lyrics emphasizing the need to take action, “WYTD?!?!” dives into themes of decision-making and seizing opportunities. RiTchie’s verses are laced with imagery of the complexities of life, while highlighting the importance of being assertive when pursuing one’s goals. He highlights the message with humorous lines such as “Move like Kool-Aid and kick through the door.” The infectious energy of the song is epitomized by the repetitive hook, “So what you tryna do?” motivating others towards decisive action. ”WYTD?!?!” not only resonates with its relatable themes, but also further solidifies RiTchie’s position in the rap scene.

Chappell Roan – “Good Luck, Babe!”

Fresh off of a viral NPR Tiny Desk set where she performed cuts from her acclaimed debut, Chappell Roan offered us a taste of a new era with her single “Good Luck, Babe!” The Missouri native shook up the pop scene at the end of last summer with her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, solidifying herself as one of the most eccentric presences in the current landscape.

While known for her explosive, dance pop bangers and campy, tongue-in-cheek twists on classic country pockets, Roan opts for an anthemic, dream pop feel in “Good Luck, Babe!” On the latter, the singer’s vocal delivery channels the ethereal quality of contemporaries like Sarah Kinsley and icons like Kate Bush. “You’d have to stop the world just to stop the feeling,” she sings, wishing good luck to a love interest who is avoidant of her feelings for Roan — and likely for women altogether. Complete with a conversational bridge, crescendoing adlibs, and a delightfully retro-esque outro, the track raises anticipation for Roan’s next artistic steps, ahead of her headline tour which kicks off next month.

Zeina – “Hot”

Montreal-based singer Zeina has been honing her R&B proficiency since her emergence onto the scene in 2016. Through a variety of singles like old school “Talk Luv,” breakout “Give Me Time,” and the bold “NASTY” that marked the way from her first full-length project (2017’s Odd One Out) to 2024’s Eastend Confessions, the musician came to revolutionize her sound, perfecting the art of blending together elements from her Middle Eastern heritage with prominent Y2K influences. Eastend Confessions, released April 3, is Zeina’s mixtape: a series of tracks that communicate the artist’s identity, through storytelling which explores experiences fundamental to her personhood with insight into her cultural background.

Preceding inclusions like the most recently unveiled, explosive “Problematic” and buzzworthy “Hooked” — Zeina’s remake of Canadian singer Shawn Desman’s 2002 “Shook” — opener “Hot” clues listeners into the project without much ado. The steamy song features Arabic-inspired melody, woven into a nostalgic 2000s groove which is led by straightforward, suggestive themes. Zeina employs dynamic delivery alongside French lyrical touches to craft an undeniably passionate atmosphere right at the tracklist’s threshold.

Khalid – “Please Don’t Fall In Love With Me”

Khalid is reintroducing himself with soulful R&B single, “Please Don’t Fall In Love With Me,” marking a new chapter in his musical journey. With a nod to Alicia Keys’ timeless “Unthinkable (I’m Ready)” in the song’s intro, Khalid sets the stage for an introspective exploration of love’s complexities. Released alongside a mesmerizing visualizer, the track showcases Khalid’s signature smooth vocals gliding over a velvety melody, as he cautions a potential love interest against falling for him.

In a heartfelt plea, Khalid candidly confronts the uncertainties and burdens he carries from past heartbreaks. He offers a sincere warning of the challenges that may come with loving him through gut-wrenching verses and a resonant chorus where he repeatedly pleads, “So please don’t fall in love with me.” With lines such as “How can I move forward when every relationship I get in don’t hit the same if it ain’t you?” Khalid invites listeners to his vulnerable world where each note is drenched in raw honesty and unfiltered emotion.

In the realm of K-pop where creativity and storytelling thrive, TOMORROW X TOGETHER have solidified themselves with their compelling storylines and innovative concepts. The quintet, also known as TXT, made their triumphant return with their sixth mini-album minisode 3: TOMORROW on April 1.

Selling a staggering 1.18 million copies on its debut day, minisode 3: TOMORROW isn’t just another album — it’s an invitation to dive headfirst into a captivating story of courage, purpose, and the pursuit of connection. The TXT members — SOOBIN, YEONJUN, BEOMGYU, TAEHYUN and HUENINGKAI — take fans on a musical journey through the seven tracks where dreams collide with reality and each note carries the promise of a brighter tomorrow.

Feeling That “Deja Vu”

The pop-trap anthem “Deja Vu” delves deep into themes of promise, eternity, and the haunting sensation of déjà vu. The title track starts with an intense rap by YEONJUN, setting the tone with heartfelt lines reflecting fear and abandonment. TAEHYUN follows with emotive lyrics, invoking anemoia, the nostalgia for a time you never personally experienced.

The chorus resonates with the echo of past promises, as the group sings of finding answers and embracing the future together. References to their earlier tracks, such as “Eternally” and “Can’t You See Me?,” blend effortlessly into the story, reinforcing TXT’s signature universe and storytelling. Despite their admission of fleeing from challenges, “Deja Vu” becomes a declaration of facing cosmic forces with courage and determination.

The immersive experience is enhanced with the accompanying visually stunning, dream-like music video. The “Deja Vu (Anemoia Remix)” adds a new dimension to the tune, too, infusing elements of rage and emo-punk. The remix offers a fresh perspective on the already dynamic song as listener’s experiences transform with the pulsating beats and raw vocals.

Friendship and Relationships in “Miracle” and “The Killa”

Miracle” showcases an electrifying blend of electronic rock with a touch of lyrical synthesizer. Co-written by SOOBIN, YEONJUN, TAEHYUN, and HUENINGKAI, the song explores themes of warmth, companionship, and shared experiences throughout its lyrics. From tender moments, such as holding hands, to reminiscing about favorite songs and shared moments, “Miracle” portrays the preciousness of relationships that illuminate our lives. The chorus echoes a sentiment of anticipation, longing for “the miracle called tomorrow.”

Continuing the theme of profound human connections, “The Killa (I Belong to You)” delves into longing that transcends a simple “I love you.” In the subunit track, SOOBIN and YEONJUN deliver a sultry afrobeats anthem, dripping with sensuality and groove. With writing credits from YEONJUN and TAEHYUN, “The Killa” explores the longing for affection beyond mere words.

From the moment SOOBIN whispers, “Please tame me,” listeners are drawn into a world of desire and surrender. The groovy tune sets the stage for YEONJUN’s verses, expressing an insatiable craving and a willingness to be consumed by love. The chorus, with its addictive melody, elevates the experience, likening the lover’s embrace to the intoxicating sweetness of champagne. Throughout the song, themes of submission and devotion are tangible. Lines such as “I belong to ya” and “I’m tamed, I belong to you” express a profound sense of bliss in giving oneself completely to another.

Navigating Life’s Uncertainties

In their signature style, TXT takes on a nostalgic vibe with “I’ll See You There Tomorrow.” The lyrics, co-penned by YEONJUN, TAEHYUN, and HUENINGKAI, promise a reunion with the members’ loved ones. Set against a UK-style house beat, this track lets listeners embrace the hopeful anticipation of the future. With its bright and magnetic melody, the song’s optimistic theme offers listeners a sense of comfort and reassurance.

The group shifts gears with “Quarter Life,” as they explore the existential angst and anxiety that often come with the transition into adulthood. Co-written by SOOBIN and TAEHYUN, the rock song delves into the quarter-life crisis, comparing it to “being trapped in a tunnel with no exit.” Despite the bleakness of the journey, the chorus radiates with a message of resilience and self-affirmation, encouraging listeners to persevere through life’s darkest moments and toughest challenges.

Both compositions not only showcase TXT’s versatility as artists but also highlight their commitment to portraying the life of young adults authentically. Whether it’s finding solace in the promise of tomorrow or confronting the uncertainties of adulthood, TXT’s music serves as a source of comfort and inspiration for listeners navigating the complexities of life.

What’s Next?

Fans of TXT, known as MOA, can look forward to catching the group on their upcoming third world tour, “ACT: PROMISE.” The 14-date tour kicks off on May 3 in Seoul, South Korea and will expand into the U.S. starting on May 14 in Washington. More cities are set to be announced.
